been fishing at Yates for a year now and I hooked my first steelhead today but it broke off when I was landing it. any recommendations on where to go or what to use?

+Thomas Alsobrooks well it sounds like your doing the right thing since you landed a steelie. Where to go, the Yates area is great for steelhead , I like to head downstream and find holes. Now what to use, everyone has their own opinion but to start with the basics ... a longer rod will help you fight the fish while using lighter line, I use a 10ft rod and have a 13'6 as well. Use a good flouro leader, I use seagur red label I think the price to quality ratio is good. I carry 6 and 8 lb for steelhead, I almost always use 6 but 8 is more forgiving. I don't endorse anyone product, my rod, reel, main line, leader and terminal tackle are all different brands. I stick with what I can afford and will save up to get something of nicer quality.
