I wouldn't say challenging for the title is being over ambitious. Depending on what kind of summer we have I believe challenging for the title isn't out of the question. Every top 6 club should have that ambition barring Spurs. If we can hop from 12th to 6th I don't see why we shouldn't be challenging for the title next season.
