We only do gifts for our direct family (each other and our kids) those we are spending the day with. If we have other people over for Christmas day we would maybe buy something very small but that's it.

I am all for selling and generating income from things you've already invested in, imo it's the most logical way to reduce waste, keep a good budget, it's the best option for lots of reasons. However I have a few notes on those who are open to donating if they have the means. Most importantly is to try and really consider where your items are going. It is unfortunately true that a lot of what we give to charity shops gets landfilled but there are charities that are more direct in getting items straight to those who need them. Shelters, refuges and poverty prevention charities. Obviously suitable clothing and home goods, the local women's refuge don't need your party heels and sequin dresses but basic clothing for men and women- menswear is less often donated, same with children's clothing. Bedding and home goods are always in demand too. There's a very real need for these items if they're in good condition, just takes a few minutes on google to figure out where is appropriate in your local area and a few extra steps in sorting and organising your decluttering. I currently have 1 bag of items that need to be listed on Vinted and another on the go to take to The Mustard Tree, Manchester (my local charity) they currently need warm clothing and home goods, as atm they have a lot of unhoused clients and people only just gaining accommodation. (whoop less people out in this awful winter)

Hi, instead of those two lol products i think maybe you should look at the nyx lip iv hydrating gloss stain, u can wear them as a product like a gloss or any deeper or more intense colours as a stain instead so not drying on the lips also for a fraction of the price

Okay-get a kindle 🤌 Just get the kindle basic, the only difference of note between the paperwhite is the basic doesn’t have warmth mode (literally never bothered me.) I bought my first kindle basic in 2019 after swearing by physical books for years-and I will say, now it is difficult to go back. I love the convenience and with ADHD it helps that I can’t just doom scroll on it. I listen to my audiobooks on it while I do random tasks and read on it when I have down time. I DO have kindle unlimited, plus the Libby app, so I rarely find myself having to purchase books. Let me know if you get it! I just upgraded to the new basic in Matcha 🥰

On that point, hydrafacial did free pop ups a few years ago in some cities. I went in Glasgow and I assume it was a shorter version of the process. My skin was very glowy but like you said, it is short term and requires ongoing treatments to maintain. Maybe something to look out for in your area if they do it again. I would also like more detail on the recycle:me process.

Re the M&S jeans; I would really recommend going into store and trying some on if you can find them. I ordered some a couple of months back and they were so wide around the bottom i had to return them. This may have been due to the fact i wear a bigger size (UK16), so may not apply for smaller sizes, but it wasn't the slouchy boyfriend style i was expecting. I've had M&S wide fit jeans before but these were so much bigger they completely covered my feet. If that fit is what you're after, then please ignore this! lol

A little tip before buying a Kindle: try downloading the free app to your phone/iPad. Gives you a chance to see if you use it as much as you think. I had a Kindle for years, mostly for travelling, but ended up just keeping the app and having one less thing to carry/charge while away

My husband is 60 this year, has a very stressful job and would like to retire in the near future but with one child at Uni and the other turning 18 this year and possibly going to Uni we need to save now while we’re both working. Seems you may already be doing something similar but for me this year I've started keeping a list in my phone of my wishlist items. Some of the items I will probably end up buying but some It gives me the time to mull it over. Some items I can borrow, for example I was desperate for some new sewing needles (I know not exactly beauty or essentials) but I ended up taking some from my husbands parents house. They had a huge stash from his late grandmother and were more than happy to allow me to take what I needed. Also I'm thinking of joining a library as I'm a huge reader but hate the clutter of books

The Violette Bisou balm is brilliant, sorry 🙈 it’s exactly what all the adverts tell us it is. Feels like nothing is on your lips, it’s not drying, it’s buildable from “is this thing even working?” to “oh it is working and it’s perfection” - it’s the Nars Sex Appeal of lip balms 🤷🏼‍♀️

I will try very hard to NOT overspend this year, but I’m not putting a figure on purchases allowed. If I fail at that number I will automatically just say “there you see, I couldn’t do it” and go back to old spending habits. So I will follow along with your journey (which I think is amazing) but I will be less strict. Perversely, that might help me! 😊

kindle paperwhite is so worth it but i got the 11th gen - there is a newer one but for price get the 11th. much easier to read and you can change the font and brightness

I adore my Kindle Paperwhite, 11th gen. You can pick them up on E bay since the 12th gen dropped. It's backlit & has warm light if your eyes get tired like mine. Seriously one of my best ever purchases & will never be without mine.

Feel like we’re synced on quite a few things. I’m also a spender but this is going to be my first try at a low buy. I’ve also been eyeing the bisou balm for quite a while. Wouldn’t bother with the hydrafacial effects didn’t even last a week. I use quite a lot of lip stains, mainly Korean, but have the Wonderskin one in the shade Bella. I personally find it one of the longest wearing stains I have in that colour family but it is by no means infallible, yet it does fade gracefully. I typically throw a lip balm over it though, so that may affect the wear time. The blue colour is more like an overlay pigment and isn’t ph adjusting. It doesn’t really have much of a function other than to show you where you’ve applied the product and is mainly a gimmick (what actually stopped me from trying this brand out sooner). Don’t bother getting the spray to make it ‘peel off’. It doesn’t come off in one go and you end up wiping the residue off with a cloth anyway.

I love my kindle paper white and would recommend it to everyone. It makes it so easy to read in any light and I take it with me everywhere. You can also switch between audible and reading for some books to get the best of both.

Something that helped me stop buying so much skincare make up etc was looking at the ingredient, iv gone from an abundance of make up over the years (alex 9 drawers) to a make up bag thats less than half full

yes how things change now most homes have to be 2 incomes just to pay the bills gone are the days when one wage would cover it. but do we expect to have more now. when i was a child it was normal for 2 or 3 kids to share a bedroom you had 1 bathroom some homes still had an outside toilet. now everyone as there own room there are 2 or 3 bathrooms. i was one of the few kids at school who my dad had a car now mum and dad have cars and often kids also as soon as they get to 17. to have a phone in the house was not every house now every one including kids has a phone. probably we could live easily on one income if we did not expect to have so much.
