I’ve done this many times and I’ve never seen this many people ….chattering and talking …omg that mare should have turned on every one of you…YOU ARE WRONG HERE…you say letting nature take its course is serious…welll what you’re doing is serious also…get the hell out of her space your constant chatter is probably sending that mare over the edge, as it would me…go for gods sakes and take your entourage with you…how frustrating
@meadowbrookstablesКүн бұрын
What you didn’t see was the mare had torn, needed medical attention and pain management. She didn’t want to let the foal nurse (almost stepped on him several times), wouldn’t let us clean the environment to prevent sepsis in the foal. We normally halter nervous mums and give meds to help them settle and bond with their baby. This mare wouldn’t allow that. Her life and the foals life were at risk.

Why can’t see pull the foal all the way out. It looks stuck.
@meadowbrookstablesКүн бұрын
You may not be familiar with the process of normal births. This foaling required assistance because the foal was stuck in the birth canal and needed some help. The goal when pulling a foal or providing traction is to get the rib cage out so the foal can breathe. But you NEVER fully pull out the foal if the umbilical is still attached. This can cause premature separation of the umbilicus (which can cause hemorrhaging of the stump, blood loss in the foal, and hernias). You can also cause the mare to retain her placenta. This is why you DO NOT PULL the foal out fully.

If height difference is a problem when feeding, then why not 'guide' the foal by inducing them to bend down a bit lower?
@meadowbrookstables2 күн бұрын
They barely know how to walk - so bending isn’t something that they figure out easily. The more you push and guide the foal the worse it gets as they move into the pressure rather than away from it. It’s a waiting game and a lot of patience and a little guidance. Less is more in this situation.

what does guaranteed to be Homozygous: EE DD mean please ? thank you
@meadowbrookstables2 күн бұрын
@@GenevieveGarbutt so all genes in horses are represented by 2 letters. If they are Capital Letters they are dominant and if they are lower case letters they are recessive. EE means two copies of the Dominant Extension Gene which is responsible for Black pigment. DD means two copies of the Dun Dilution Gene which is responsible for the dorsal stripe extending into the tail, zebra stripes on the legs, dark ear tips etc. By having EE and DD it means the foal will be either a Black or Bay Based Dun and will always pass those genes on to future foals.

This is not meant in a mean-spirited way, but you should consider refraining from wiping down the foal as soon as it is born the next time you have a mare foal at the very least. Mares will know to lick the foal down themselves, as they're covered in their scent. It's an easy way to encourage your mare to bond with her baby, to reduce the chance of the mother rejecting her foal or becoming uncomfortable or disinterested. Daisy squealing at her foal could be a result of this, seeing as she hasn't gotten to have any more contact with her faol other than it actually being birthed from her. Especially seeing as it was her first time foaling, I foresee potential problems trying to bond with her foal or being as attentive as she could be with this being her first experience. I've seen enough comments bringing up how you did not leave your mare and her foal to bond and that you were invading her space by staying in her stall, so I don't believe it'd be constructive to bring that up again. I advise you to take the advice of those commenters, because there's nothing like mother nature taking care of itself. Congratulations to you and your mare for your foal and I hope there will be more pleasant experiences in your futures.☺

We've been doing this for nearly 20 years with 100s of animals (horses, sheep, cattle, goats, alpacas, dogs and cats). We've wiped many and delivered others though C-Section and you can bet those one were wiped down with a towel and there were no issues bonding with the mother. These animals are used to the human smell it isn't alarming to them. Also if you've ever gotten amnionic fluid on your clothes you would know wiping it off doesn't make the smell go away.

I have seen a setup like this before in another video. The same white partition walls, this doesn't look like a barn. It is more like a facility almost like a puppy mill. Making money on the babies they sell. The other video I saw was a horse racing state of the art building birthing barn. It was just like this barn, a put-together partition walls, and nothing else. They are in it for the money.
@meadowbrookstables2 күн бұрын
I suggest being informed before you’re opinionated you are formulating an opinion by watching a few seconds of a video. These stalls were essential because we lost a barn in a hurricane so we had to get partitions and set them up temporarily in our indoor riding arena. But we picked these partitions because they are white, bright, and easy to disinfect. I suggest you take a bit of time to get to know a facility before you make such rude assumptions.
