I'm happy to see Boston Whaler still doing well. In the 70's and 80's I worked for Chase Chemical in Pittsburgh; we manufactured the toluene diisocyanate component of the polyurethane foam used in the BW boats. We shipped truckloads of the stuff.

If you harpoon a Tuna anywhere other than the gill plate, you're cutting the price of the fish by 75%. If you fail to bleed from the tail and gills, you're cutting the price of the fish by 75%. If you fail to ice the fish from the inside, you're basically limiting who will buy it. Americans are extremely ignorant on how Asian culture preserves Tuna for top dollar prices. Go to Japan, go to the auction and talk with anyone who buys fish....Number one complaint, American fisherman!!

and what was all the cost to fishing all of these 5 fish that need to be taking of that money ...most cost a lot of money to go out these for fishing tuna
@Jeremy-q8r18 сағат бұрын
So on a scale from 1-10 you got a B question mark 😂😂😂! Shes right tho its likely a decent fish that wasnt bled well. It happens.

my opinion is they use 2 hulls inner and otter. This cost a lot more than a hull that you fasten the deck to the hull. Then they inject foam in between the 2 hulls.

as soon as you catch the tuna you’re suppose to put it on ice/freeze it immediately or the meat goes bad. It’s clearly sitting outside warm. That will make you sick 100%

This video is definitely closer to reality. We have a family member that fished a couple seasons on wicked tuna. I asked him about the big money they talk about on TV. His exact comment was we never see that amount and specifically commented that often when the show says $20 per lb they actually would see between $3-$12 per lb.

I use to fish in other country. I sold durectly to the people and also gave away about 1/3 to to the local population. Made enough to just pay my bills. But i was part of the community and if i ever needed sumthing, the community was their. Now that was quality life

Why not sell direct to consumers? There's cattle ranch sending out packages of great steaks internationally. Shipping will be your biggest challenge after processing and packing. Glhf You guys deserve much more and selling direct to customer is more hygienic 😊

@mountainmandale158723 сағат бұрын
I agree with letting it grow up. I care about the health of the fishery. I can get small fish every day. I choose to wait for the real deal. That's just how I am, and probably why I have been doing it for over 40 years. No one and done for me.

I commercial fished south Atlantic sg1. Snapper grouper. You make more money. You may wanna move bud. Hell they pay 6 and 7 a lb for grouper. Same for red snapper when it opens 4.50 to 5.50 for bee liners. You can catch a pile of bee liners in 12 hrs you get dialed in

Depends who the buyer is and the quality, and destination of the fish. In Ocean City,MD. You're selling to local buyers and its going to local restaurants. There fish are actually being graded, and shipped to Japan. That's why they are getting those prices. You're selling in VA., and you are not going to get good prices. Just like in MD. Great video. But you can't make blanket comments on just your experience. You need to go to Gloucester and see it for yourself.
@saltwaterfishinguniversity2 күн бұрын
Thanks for the feedback. Not trying to make blanket comments here, just sharing our experience as well as what others have shared with us. For example, here in the OBX right now, we've got a variety of Northern Boats that have come down for the month. Most report similar numbers: $5-$10lbs, sometimes less. But again, appreciate you sharing your thoughts.

I've been lucky with sales. My brother is a chef so 99% of the time everything goes direct to restaurants. It's more of a pain because I sometimes need to travel a bit but I make considerably more. Plus I can get rid of just about anything
@saltwaterfishinguniversity2 күн бұрын
Wow, that's a huge benefit. Good for you. When you sell to restaurants, what do you generally charge per pound? And do you do miinimum size orders? (in terms of how much you require them to take?)
@mulletoutdooradventures62862 күн бұрын
@saltwaterfishinguniversity I kind of leave most of it up to them. Most are usually fair because they have relationships with my brother. I don't really have any amount either. I mostly sell off yellowfin and mahi because I usually have multiple fish. Bluefin is rough because of the limits but when I get fish over 100lbs or my 2 smalls I'll reach out. The restaurants usually won't take all of it because they can't sell them off in a timely manner. Their prices are usually double or more then the commercial buyers because they are portioning and charging absurd amounts per portion in most cases. A few weeks ago we got just over 3500 for bluefin that was only 206 collared. We get a ton of charters that will limit out on yellowfin and only take 1 or 2 fish home and leave the rest. And summer in Jersey there isn't a restaurant that won't take them usually. They save a few bucks and we make a few.
