I feel you made the right call by not taking on a partner. I owned a small business for 34 years. It was my dream, my vision and my success or failure. I didn’t want to blame anyone but myself if something went wrong. The only one who ever had any input was my wife. I sold the business two years ago and I’m retired in OBX. I own a 32 foot center console and watch your channel all the time. I can tell how much you guys love what you’re doing. Please keep up the good work.

Boat looks like it needs a ton of work. Not included the obvious needed upgrades. Another boat partner also seems like too many cooks in the kitchen. If i had a vote, i would suggest running your current rig for another year or 2. Keep up the great videos.

Exactly my thoughts. I can tell Ron wants to be in a bridge and that was tugging at him but I think yall are making the right call. This seems like a step backwards from the Speechless to me even though its a bigger boat and gets you to the OIFC

You two made the right choice, been watching y’all since the beginning and have made a name for yourself keep it that way, don’t need a partner, I’m sure that man is top shelf but keep the little speechless going forward for now, I think we may be in a down turn soon enough at the beach, my house rent was way off this year Stay salty boys.

All of the cons you guys discussed are real. The one areas that I di not see mentioned, however, was the engines and generator. MTU/Detroit Diesel are good solid engines, but they are a little dated as well. How many hours? and where are th relation of those hours to the maintenance schedule? How many since a a major overhaiul or how many hours to a major overhaul. I am a boat nut and Carolina Sportfisherman are my favorites - bridge or express. I had a 35 express custom (not a Carolina though) and we went from a set of Volvo TAMD70 @ 300 HP a piece to a set of Cummins 370B. It was a brand new boat! Not only did wee gain a bunch of HP, but we lost over 1500 lbs per engine. went from a 20 knot cruise to a comfortable 24 know low cruise with the ability to cruise at 27 knots all dayy if we wnated to burn the fuel and the sea conditions permitted it. I digress, but the reason I brought up the engines is that, when any major work needs to be done and/or repower, the express is infinitely a better set up. With that sporty, you would have to take half the boat apart, including the rear cabin bulkhead to get a motor in and out. Additionally, I feel like an express helps you build a better relationship with your clients. The Captain is not isolated from the party all day, up on the bridge, while everyone else is down below. With the express, you get to know them and they get to know you better. I have worked with Captains that like to stay away from the party, but that puts a tremendous amount of pressure on the mate. When I was Captain I liked to interact with the party, not just be up on the bridge by myself. Don't get me wrong a flybridge sporty could be great, but that one needed too much to be a charter boat and had way too much that was not neeeded. Keep looking.

usually in place overhauls, for major repower the floors come up as you can see when they show the mirrors you can see the sections
@makosteve662 ай бұрын
@@SuperJlonergan agreed, the floors come up, but those engines will not fit through the saln door see 4:30 of the video for a good picture) . they will have to dissassemble the rear bulkhead, and they are already talking about building a mezzanine. that would all have to be at least partially removed. Yes, you do a major in place, but sometimes you need to replaces. nothing least forever. I re-powered an express. It was a big job, but would have been double the price if it was a convertible sportfisherman

Huge business upgrade with you wanting to get into the tournament circuit and you getting to your goal number of days on the water. Also pushes you as a captain with all those legendary boats next door. It’s a great location for advice and marketing. The professor might not know it yet but you can hear he’s dying to get in a sportfish. Engine room might be intimidating but chartering a sportfish isn’t reinventing the wheel. You have an encyclopedia of knowledge at that marina of charter capts who have ran into every issue you could stumble on. A diesel is a diesel at its core. It’s a big financial change but keep in mind you don’t need to add an Omni/new electronics, mezz, cosmetics etc all at once. Speechless is beautiful now but it wasn’t in the beginning.

Don’t know enough about the character business but think 3 partners would be difficult and would this bigger boat bring in enough to offset the costs. What the average number of people on that type of charter…maybe more profitable with the smaller boat if that means more charters vs fewer but more people or days on the water.
@ringoesroadking3 ай бұрын
It's a nice boat and all. To me it would have to be 5x more profitable to your business to forfeit half the rights to the boat and half the profit to anyone. Don't know the details of the partnership but I do know you guys have 100% of the blood sweat and tears to build your business.

Well FMe, we just got our estimate for two new aftercooler, STBD turbo, and other engine maintenance work on our 46 Bertram, which turned out to be a shocking 75K!

In taking on a partner your giving up the autonomy which you already have achieved and that's a tough nut to swallow , especially considering you have to go all in to get it ... and how many years , if it all goes sideways and the courts get involved , to get that back . I " may " rather captain for a rich guy with a new 74' Spencer or like if I was risking my autonomy .

OK. Humor. It's a joke folks: Take all the new electronics and everything else new off the current boat (in secret). Take the thing 40-60 miles out,. Burn it to the waterline (pull the drain plug just in case), make sure it sinks, and then SOS say something caught fire in the engine compartment, you tried to put it out, but it got out of control and you barely made it off before the boat was engulfed. You get rescued off the water for good measure. Boat sinks in water way too deep for anyone to ever go look. Insurance pays out better than the loss on resale. Install electronics in new boat . . . I mean just saying. Tony S. 😆
