These are the 4000 series cars, which made that buzzing noise. It is part of the DC Chopper Control propulsion systems they used till they were retired in 2017. This was taken in early 2014, when 4000 series railcars were a common sighting on the Red line.

@SuperWorldRailFanProductions
@SuperWorldRailFanProductions Жыл бұрын
The 2000 and 3000 series were delivered in the 1980s and had reached their midlife overhaul date in the 2000s. The 4000s were delivered in the 1990s and were too young for an overhaul during the time of the 2/3k rebuilds. Additionally, funding shortages caused Metro to skip the rebuild program of the 4000s, and plus, they were relatively a very small part of Metro's fleet.

What In The World Is All This Popping Noise U Got Going On Filming This Video It Sound’s Quite Annoying As Heck
@SuperWorldRailFanProductions
@SuperWorldRailFanProductions Жыл бұрын
Sometimes my arms were getting tired of holding the camera, so I had been alternating hands. Most importantly, that might be the sound of the lens "IR cut filter" adjusting focus given this was filmed at night, and during the video at times, I pointed my camera to face outside the window. Strong illumination can also be the cause of popping noise since at times, the camera was adjusting to the bright lighting inside the railcar.

How long was the train waiting at Metro Center? 31:03
@SuperWorldRailFanProductions
@SuperWorldRailFanProductions Жыл бұрын
It was the last train of the night, so I would assume about 10 minutes. As the operator was saying in the video "We will be holding momentarily until all trains have cleared the platform and everybody has had a chance to go home". At major transfer stations, especially Metro Center, trains would always do that.

@SuperWorldRailFanProductions
@SuperWorldRailFanProductions Жыл бұрын
@@FinnxMcxMissile I had paused the video there, but my guess would be that the operator may have made a mistake announcing the last trains at Metro Center since the Blue, Orange, and Silver lines serve the lower level there, and in that case, there was a Blue line train to Franconia at Metro Center. As for Gallery Place and Ft. Totten, it might be that the last Green and Yellow line trains might have already left on the lower level by the time this train got there, even though upon arrival at Gallery Place, you can hear a train leaving on the lower level. That was most likely a Yellow line train to Huntington.

The last trains of the night for the redline meet at metro center to wait for the last blue and orange line train. The last Redline train to shady grove waits briefly at gallery place for the green line. The last silver line train waits at east falls for the last orange line. It’s confusing because if you want the green line in the direction of Branch ave. you have to get off at metro and take the blue line to L’Enfant.

Hence the description. In this instance, this was before peak hours (which surprised me). Metro employees uncoupled two cars to make it a 4 car train. They did this to every train that was 6 cars long upon arrival to Union Station, which is where the operation is usually performed due to the maintenance yard being just outside.
