I rode the new 7000 series rail car on the Red Line to Metro Station . What an awesome ride! I like the electronics display board and sound quality of speakers - indicating your position and stops. Great lighting, seats, and colors.
@SuperWorldRailFanProductions7 жыл бұрын
B Byrd I like these railcars also. There are a ton of these on the Red Line. I agree, the announcements are more crystal clear than than the previous railcars. AFIAK, the brakes are smoother on these car series.

I've ridden in these a few times before. They're very nice inside compared to the old cars. I do prefer the older person's voice over the ones in the Kawasaki series' though
@SuperWorldRailFanProductions4 жыл бұрын
Randi Miller is the voice on the older railcars, but I agree with you on those ones; they were the announcements from my childhood. These days, since more than half the fleet is compromised of 7000 series railcars, you would hear the newer announcements more frequently.

Please post the unit numbers on these trains if you can and document them. I rode the RD Line on a trip from 12/26 to 12/31/16, and spotted car 7249 as the highest unit in service then. It was Fri. night 12/30/16 when it went out of Shady Grove about 7:05PM. So glad you finally saw a 7000 Series on the Silver Line. I was going to hunt them down on there but I saw so few 8 car trains I saw it as a waste of time. Oh, and there were issues on RD Line and OR Line as well creating service delays on system.
@SuperWorldRailFanProductions8 жыл бұрын
akduh01 Unfortunately, I can't document all the numbers of all the 7000-series that I spotted that day since I wasn't paying attention to the numbers. However, I can tell you which set was the only set that was in service on the Silver Line judging from the camera: 7195-7194-7217-7216-7071-7070-7067-7066. I was also surprised to see these new trains on the newest line. Next time, I will try to document as many sets I encounter. Also, I think you mean the Orange, Blue, and Silver Lines, where these cars had issues about contact with the third rail.
@TheOwoshiArchive6 жыл бұрын
I thought the 7000-series was removed on the Silver Line in 2016. I guess I was wrong.
@SuperWorldRailFanProductions6 жыл бұрын
Owoshi They weren't removed; just very few were operating on the Silver line that time. As of today, a handful operate there as of now.

Tbh, the 5000 series was my favorite. I liked how they sounded, never been to Washington D.C, always wanted to ride on one, and never did. Now I'm a little upset that the 5000 series is retired, so early, they could have tried to fix all the problems that it had. Why wmata, just pure why? Well nice video anyway.
@SuperWorldRailFanProductions6 жыл бұрын
The 5000 series cars were originally due for a midlife overhaul, in which case, they would recieve features like the 7000 series cars have, but ever since they entered service, they were prone to various maintenance issues, forcing Metro to retire these cars earlier than expected. Other than that, I agree that they had good motors.
@Rohrbach003 жыл бұрын
As someone who has lived in the Washington DC suburbs since 2004, I cannot count the number of times I've been on the Metro not to mention that I've ridden every railcar series except the 7000 series trains so far

@kevinb88818 жыл бұрын
Also, the body frames on these cars are real stainless steel, not that recycled junk the NYCT R160s have!!
@SuperWorldRailFanProductions8 жыл бұрын
Kevin B Well the R160 and these new trains are made out of a stainless steel body frame, and some of the R160s are also manufactured by Kawasaki (R160B). I would say the R160 is also a great car series, but if I were to choose one of those, i would also go with the 7000 series since they are cleaner, reliable, and more technologically advanced.

How does D.C metro have enough money to buy a bunch of trains
@SuperWorldRailFanProductions6 жыл бұрын
It is one of the busiest transit systems in the US with high ridership, so Metro is purchasing enough of these railcars, especially for peak hours and capacity. In fact, new cars called the 8000-series (not to be confused with the money train since two cars used for those purposes are numbered in the 8000 range) are expected to be delivered sometime in the early 2020's.

I’m glad the 5000 Series Cars are getting replaced by these amazing trains. Those 5000 series cars had many structural problems. Why did they had bad structural integrity issues?
@SuperWorldRailFanProductions6 жыл бұрын

@SuperWorldRailFanProductions6 жыл бұрын
redphone243 Well, we will have to wait and see when they go into service.
@lexanon53156 жыл бұрын
redphone243 CAF engineered the cars in Spain. The actual manufacturing was done in Maryland by an Aerospace Contractor AAI, it was a joint venture to help build the cars. Eventually CAF built their own Factory in Elmira NY, that’s where future trains will be made for various transit agencies.

@SuperWorldRailFanProductions2 жыл бұрын
@@MattDaGamer21 As from my point, on these new trains, the operator has to acknowledge that the entire train is on the platform, so making a perfect stop on the platform can be challenging. I have even seen that operators overrun the platform by about 2 or 3 feet especially in areas highly prone to overruns. It also has to do with sudden changes in speed commands. For example, I have witnessed speed commands drop to 0 just as the train enters the platform, or even right before the end of the platform. Apart from that, each train operator has their own positioning perspective.
