Natalie, I hate the smell of paramoth. It almost makes me 🤢. Melissa and I use Certan or BT. It is a little more costly, but I haven't had a problem. Comb is Gold!

I buy those little packages at dollar store cut hole in middle of package and stack 4-5 supers and set one on top repeat, and use old migratory lid to cap off. Will use that excluder on bottom from now on.

Mom to the rescue again with paramothing 😂 and that looks like a Dad super stack on the left too🤔😂 See, your parents are awesome 👍 😂 Great topic not boring especially when you go to prepare supers for winter storage and the moths have beaten you too it😬 ive seen hobbyist boxes completely stripped out which is huge when you are only running a few colonies, a little bit of inattentiveness and moths and mice will make you pay. Awesome.

I have had damage the last 2 years. i froze my boxes for a few days and put them in bags and i got moths anyway. it is real crazy last year i used crystls and lost a bunch. I am begining to think that there is nothing u can really do to stop it. I wish I had a big freezer like BOB BINNIE that would be great

I set an empty super with a trash bag taped on the bottom that's sitting on a concrete floor and dump the moth crystals in the bottom, then stack supers with comb about 6 high. I don't have as many as y'all. Then for added security I wrap them with plastic wrap, even across the top before I put the lid on. Works for me and my little operation. Damaged comb I peel off the webbing and take an air nozzle and blow off the foundation till it's cleaned off pretty well, apply new wax, then put them back on a hive to get drawn out.

Nice. How many supers do you have to store this year? I'm sure Kamon didn't put that top super on that tall stack. LOL

What is that para moth made of? Personally, I’m using mothballs from Home Depot. It’s made of naphthalene and it works fine for me.

Napthalene is not good to use for this purpose. Para-dichlorobenze (Paramoth) is borderline, but napthalene will tend to stay in the comb/wax, and can potentially end up in the honey.

Your combs are no longer food safe they may even harm the bees. The wax absorbes the moth ball ingredients. Throw out that contaminated comb and use what Natalie uses.

I got the plastic sign board from H depot to put between them and tape them, where they freeze. This year I got some para moth where they had brood, I have some deeps ready for spring , I’m a little crazy about my comb because it’s beautiful.

You have right idea-- a dedicated super storage. Looks like it holds a lot of boxes. I built a shed decades ago and made sure no bugs could get inside -- bees or other bugs.

Goldenrod mostly done here, asters still pretty good, and there's a plant that I don't know what it is, mostly found in ditches. It has a cluster of small white and pink flowers that the bees get white pollen from.

👋😂 your poor dad is probably looking for his smoker, scratching his head, "I'm sure I put the bloody thing here"😂 nice result with the cut out 👍 I had a magic moment hive queen this week in a hive I'm helping a hobbyist with. Last fortnight I was looking for her and I couldn't find her for love or money. Went through his colony three times 😂 ended up having to shake down. This week I helped him do a split and first frame of brood I wanted to take out, bang there she is, put her aside on the frame and went into the bottom box, pulled a frame and I always glance for the queen just in case and zap, there she was, pulled her frame aside, got a frame of brood, put it back together, went back into the top box to get another frame of pollen and honey to finish out the split and guess who was there😂

That is a very nice setup. I have never heard about the wax patties before but I will definitely remember that tip for next year as getting all the honey out of the wax cappings can otherwise take for ever and ever.
