When you want comb honey don't have extra space for the bees to put it elsewhere. Crowd the bees just a little and make sure you're on a good flow. Take all the medium supers off except maybe one that is at least 90% full then put your comb super above or below it (obviously above a queen excluder) and shake all the bees from the other supers back into the hive- it should be really crowded. On a flow a medium or shallow super it should only take a week or 10 days to fill the comb super, then get it off asap while the wax is still clean and white then add back regular supers or anther comb super. Good luck.

Watch your back. When you get to forty you will wish you took care. Get someone to help you lift those suppers. Otherwise great job on the video subbed

Comb honey is so hard to get perfect. They just seemed to work on it when they want to. LOL Thanks for the update.

Hi from central Otago southern New Zealand 👋 Woah cool, you go girl, those hives look awesome 👍 its mid winter here in southern New Zealand so that means putting things together and preparation of new apairy sites. Everyone just loves pulling wild dog rose out by hand in mid winter 😂 our main crop is Thyme honey where i am so i love comb honey although it does crystalise in the comb like a dog after six months.😅 In New Zealand, we have specialized full sheet super thin foundation for comb honey production and i use wooden hiveware and wax foundation on my frames, i loathe plastic but its really popular in Otago. Looks like you're having a great time with the bee's 👋

Natalee I have a question. I keep my frames spaced apart also to get that thicker comb . My question is when uncapping your frames do you all just cut all the way down to the frame OR do you take the time to just cut the cappings off to keep the frame thick so the bees do not have to work so hard the next season an use resources to build it back out thick . That was just a thought I do it both ways it just depends on how much of a hurry I am in to get done . As always Thanks for the time you an your family takes to do these videos to help out those newer bee keepers who are out there. Thanks

I use a scratcher to remove the caps and leave the comb 9 frame or 8 frame standard supers hold more honey than 10 frame

@@lenturtle7954 Thanks ya I always build my frames out THICK to get that extra an just about always keep the frames thick so my girls do not have to use there incoming nectar each year to have to keep rebuilding out each frame every year but it all depends on the condition of each frame as what I do with them. A big majority of my medium frames when full are weighting in at around eight to nine pounds total . Now if I am getting low on wax when I uncap I will cut them down to the frame . It is numbers game to balance out just what I need to do for what I need at that point. Thanks for your response. Thanks

Don't get me wrong, Kamon is the expert on hive tools that you can bend over your knee but Gus Mitchell is the guy for cut comb videos.

Our sumac has been done for a few weeks now. Still got clover, milkweed, soybeans, and cotton. I don't like fall honey either and only a couple people I know do. I generally pull my supers the end of July, have a dearth in August, then September goldenrod and asters I let the bees have along supplemental feeding to bulk up bees on population and food for winter.

Thanks Natalee That new comb looks awesome. I love doing cut comb in my hives. Do you ever use the ready made little frames that the bees build into? I think here in Australia they are Ross Rounds or similar. Apologies if you've already done a video on this and I haven't seen it. Cheers ❤

On camera, you look tall and slender, not short! Bees are amazing. (I didn't say that today when I got stung by one though) (: Flows? Is that as in flow hives?

No she is talking about when there is nectar still coming in from the plants . Flow weans the Bees are still bring in nectar so the Bees can make Honey out of the nectar. I am not her but I just happen to see your question.
