Great coverage of the history that we are foolishly repeating. Electric motors are a much older and beautiful tech. However the batteries are a dead end as the energy source. It's exactly as you said, it was better than preceding technology of horses, but gasoline was and it's better than it. The exact same issues apply today as they did then. They are suitable for only a limited percentage of use cases, more expensive and much less capable. We outright don't have the minerals on earth to make enough battles to replace cars for even a single generation of batteries.

Imagine the problems that would have been avoided if only the electric car had dominated back then. What sensible solutions are failing to be implemented today because of lack of foresight and money?

Jimmy Carter never really was all that astute. That yacht, properly maintained and hardened, could be a "'floating Camp David" for official use. The advantage of the yacht over Camp David is, the yacht moves, Camp David doesn't. POTUS could go anywhere on that thing and conduct business with dignitaries.

What's more, they pay enormous bribes to police and politicians, in order to escape accountability, even when their reckless driving kills people. There's no good reason for that private industry to exist. Commercial trash should be handled by the City's sanitation department, just as household trash is. But then the bribes would go away.
