The editing and writing in your videos are amazing. I never thought about where the origin of the snake oil salesman term came from before, so it’s surprising that it originally came from a legit medicine. Keep up the great work!

Glad you liked it! I do all of the writing and recording myself, but I have an editor for the video side of things now. I'll let him know you are pleased with his work!

Patented tonics and "snake oil" sold by traveling salesmen often did work quite well for day to day aches and pains, depending on the particular mix. Of course back then they could contain quite a lot of grain liquor and/or opium, which were the active ingredients in mixes that worked. A magical time.

Agreed! There were tonics sold that did at the very least cover up some of the symptoms that people were experiencing (though the root cause was rarely addressed). The negative slant for the term snake oil didn't always necessarily mean that you weren't getting any benefit, as was proven in Clark Stanley's case, but it could also refer to a misrepresentation of the product being sold. Opium for example, being the active ingredient when the pitch stemmed from an almost mystic interpretation of rattlesnake oil.

Your writing and editing are amazing, I'm so surprisee how few likes you have, at first I thought you just posted it and I'm one of the firsts but the truth is more disappointed. You just earned a new follower! Good luck :D

I can't tell you how much I appreciate the support! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Even though there's always a push for more views, hearing how much you like it is definitely a win in my book. Thank you!

Happy to hear you were able to take something away from the video! I always shoot for video ideas that include some angle of giving people information or insight into things they may have heard about before but haven't necessarily done a deep dive into yet.
