How does this method compare with using a ring str/reducer? I have been trying to shrink my Au 50c round coins and my Au Florins on a doming block and a folding die, and they collapse sideways. I am tosing up weather to buy a one of these sets or spend the big bucks on a Str/Rdcr. I am currently using a Rathburn strecher, but that is already giving me the shits. Thanks Mate.

See standard doming set, and 17° dies is the way to go to begin. If you want to save detail delrin set works very well, however the steel set is great and will last a long time.

Beginners question, Do you do the final sizing after the cones?
@legacybrandcoinringtools29562 жыл бұрын
Bill, Yes you would do final sizing after the cones. Many times after straightening walls, I would stretch up, and do a slight reduction to form a more natural looking ring with a slight curve. Really depends on the looking feel you are going for as well as size.

I got this set to make quarter bells with, and I love it! Since the bells typically will be suspended, and a hole is needed to attach the loop wire/clapper support, I find and drill the center of the coin after annealing but before forming it. It always winds up perfectly centered after forming!

Tom T, Thank you for your input. Happy you are enjoying the use of your Mini Swedish wrap die set. Definitely a necessity for quarter coin bells. Happy ringing... Gary

Gary, I've heard with silver coins delrin push rods are preferred, and I notice the delrin rods are included in your deluxe swedish wrap set on etsy. Is there a reason you didn't use the delrin rods? Thanks, Mike
@legacybrandcoinringtools29563 жыл бұрын
Mike, Good question as most of the time when I am reducing a .999 silver coin, I used delrin rods. For this particular video, I wanted to demonstrate that a reed could be preserved using brass rods. Brass rods are more common, however delrin rods have a few advantages. One thing is protecting the reed, and a second advantage is the ability to over-reduce just a little bit when the rod touches the inner wall of the Swedish wrap die. Doing so reduces the ring a slight bit more and makes transition to the next smaller rod easier. Most cases I use brass for clad, or very thick coins, and delrin for .999 silver coins.

How do you get the flat coin started . Is it on a video.
@legacybrandcoinringtools29563 жыл бұрын
John, Many use a starting cone which helps to begin the fold of a flat coin, and then move to the 17° folding die. Here's a video of how to use 17° folding dies with cones to fold the flat coin kzbin.info/www/bejne/bpyzap9mmdJ5bsk

Will these straighten a wobbly ring it it's not real bad??
@legacybrandcoinringtools29563 жыл бұрын
Terry, Yes these sure can help to straighten a wobbly ring indeed. By resting the reed on the lid of the straightening set, and pressing through with a cone, not only does it help to straighten the inside but a wavy reed as well. Many find that sizing up using this system prevents the wavy while maintaining symmetrical ring.

Do these dies work on quarters, and half dollars too?
@legacybrandcoinringtools29563 жыл бұрын
Terry, The Legacy Mini Swedish Wrap Die is used to reduce quarters, and smaller coins, shown in another video. The standard Swedish Wrap set in this video work great to reduce half dollar size coins, and larger to smaller size rings. These dies also work well to final reduce coin bell domes.
