Being South African this doesn't show much but I guess it's a start... Khayelitsha is a beautiful place. We just choose to accept it from a danger's view. If you think it a crime hot spot you are right but it's also peoples homes and the most welcoming and friendliest.

That's great to hear mate. There was originally a second and a third but James May ripped it off and so it got canned and then my son got ill (he's fine now). Maybe it's time I had a word with the publisher.

Just word of caution if you don't do it properly you will either reverse into the curb or flip the car as most of us are probably gonna try this in a shitty hatchback. The yanking of the steering wheel is the key to a good J turn.

His car was probably made on a Friday. Look, they put the steering wheel on the wrong side! He probably bought it very cheap because of that. Don't try this with a normal car!

So many questions in the comments, here's a quick summary of answers: 1. Desert = Wadi Rum, Jordan. 2. Stick shift, no need to depress clutch or start in gear. 3. Yes, the car/truck is a piece of shit. Pre-stripped everything. This vid was grabbed off-the-cuff to illustrate a point in a book, not a big budget TV production or instructional video. Therapy is available for anyone that finds this shocking in a youtube vid. 4. One day I'll repeat the vid from door entry to the various methods of starting a modern car. Just for shits and giggles. I do not know when. 5. See the plentiful comments on how to break a steering lock. Have a nice day . . .

Interesting video! Unfortunately this probably won't work on modern cars (anything built after early 90's) because most have an immobiliser system which uses either a remote or a chip in the key. Not impossible to get around but you would have to bypass the immobiliser relay which cuts power to usually either or both the fuel pump/starter motor. Other issue is the steering lock, although I'm sure there is a way around those too, especially if they are electronically controlled :)

Perfect J turn!!!! Finally someone on here that can actually drive and yes a J turn can be done just as easily if not easier with an automatic transmission. I've actually seen a secret service video where the instructor is showing a novice how to do a J turn in I-Rock Z w/ automatic transmission.

Beautiful. I executed one of these in my 2001 Ford Expedition. I managed to keep the rear wheels nearly in the same spot, however, if you're not experienced at these, don't try it in an SUV like I did. I'm not experienced, but I was willing to deal with the consequences of trying. If you don't do it right, you could very well flip the SUV.. Anyway, it was a fun experience. The Expedition with it's 5.4 16v V8 performed beautifully. :3

I don't know anything about cars... but while going fast in reverse & throwing it back into 1st or any gear, wouldn't that damage the motor or transmission? I'm quite serious & am very curious about this & would appreciate a response. Thank you! ~ Peace
@JHsadler9 жыл бұрын
No because you're using the clutch. The tyres will spin before you break the clutch.
@nolawest51839 жыл бұрын
Ooooh! Yeahhh! That makes sense... I've always wanted to do that! But, sadly at this point in my life, I'm sure that won't happen ~ Looks like fun! Keep safe, Nola
@pkwithblades75659 жыл бұрын
You only put it into first after you're already done with the slide. What would actually damage the transmission is leaving it in reverse because you would then be traveling forwards but still be in reverse gear. To make this all a lot easier, you just put in the clutch as soon as you start the slide so that once you're out of it, your car won't be in reverse and you can just put it in first then drive off.

That easy huh? What tools did you have available? How did you identify which cables to use? How did you disable the steering lock? I guess none of this matters, just make sure your car is already half stripped incase you end up in this situation haha ;-)

Scamming In Wadi Rum. Wadi Rum Desert Camps Fool Tourists Most of the “camps” in Wadi Rum listed on the Internet (TripAdvisor, Routard, etc.) don’t actually exist. Their “owners” together with the help of their girlfriends, who write and speak good English, create a fake website and post a lot of self-promoting reviews in order to attract naive tourists. As a result, travellers find themselves in trouble and get scammed. That is why, before going to Wadi Rum, insist the desert camps on sending you a scanned copy of their license, as 99.9% of them don’t have one. Have this in mind before booking any tour, and don’t let Bedouins fool you with fake reviews and nemorous self-compliments. www.stop-scamming-in-wadi-rum.com

Do we have to apply brakes while performing the spin??
@FatGreenSheep10 жыл бұрын
Applying brakes will help break traction with the front tires, getting it to swing farther
@42raven429 жыл бұрын
+coreofheart1 I have not tried this but I think that by tapping the brake (tap, not stomp and hold) that little change in momentum will transfer more weight/force onto the rear tires which means your front tires will have less weight holding them down onto the road, the front will rise slightly and help the front tires 'lose' their grip on the road so they can skid/slide around. Ever notice how your car's front dips down a little when you break hard? You are sort of doing the same thing only in reverse.
