Star Fox Zero blew my mind as a kid. The 3D audio from the gamepad was something i had never seen before, and somehow the dual screen gameplay never bothered me. It feels like a proper space adventure.

19:17 Ubisoft is not a perfect game publisher but they always support niche consoles for their possible hidden potential, Ubisoft basically carried Google stadia while it was alive and They are supporting A lot,, the niche amazon cloud console called "Amazon luna" , and well amazon luna is now getting GoG support so i guess is gonna be here for a longer time, Ubisoft did right in supporting that platform i guess xdd

I gotta say, I feel like the beginning of the video put too much weight on the financial success or failure of a video game console. With few exceptions, how well a console sells should have no bearing on your opinion of that console. The Genesis, 64, and Cube were not losers. No one in their right mind should think that. They were a part of generations that had no losers. Now the WiiU and Dreamcast are those few exceptions because their financial failure lead to less support and games for players to enjoy.

I agree with your last video 100%. I grew up playing dkc 1 and 2 (born 1991), and didn’t even know there was a third until I decided to mess around with my kids’ switch. I was actually pretty excited and surprised to see there was a third. I tried playing it… but damn it’s just terrible! I forced myself through about 75% of it and will probably leave it there forever.

The WiiU / 3DS was the generation where I grew to learn. I had a taste for core games outside of the standard mold of Nintendos family image. Wonderful 101, Bayonetta 2, Xenoblade X, and some of the rpg offerings on the virutal console like golden sun were among my most played titles on the thing. I also finnaly got into metroid in this gen. I was a teen at the time, trying to figure out what it was in games that I even liked.

While it's perfectly understandable that you wouldn't bring up Xenoblade Chronicles X in this video, seeing as you don't seem to be that much of an RPG guy, it's also a shame. X really is the epitome of a Wii U game, with a small, but dedicated fanbase, a radical shift from how other games in its series play (or rather, would end up playing - as someone who started with the first game on the Wii, it's honestly more alienating in what directions Xenoblade 2 and 3 went compared to it), and being by now largely forgotten by anyone outside of that small fanbase. When the Wii U's servers shut down the other week, it was a beautiful time of X' fans coming together one last time to make the most out of its online services (that's something that I'll remember for years to come). . . all while the Xenoblade fanbase at large was mostly busy going wild for all the new Lore™ for the numbered games that came from a new artbook. And I still want to point out that X has *amazing* movement and jumping mechanics.

I also think they treated its re release of Earthbound as an ace in the hole. The Wii U was where it made its re emergence after years of fans niggling Nintendo about it.

I just want to say, as someone who's been watching you for roughly a decade, it makes me real happy to see your evolution from another reviewer looking at Games as Product into a truly seasoned analytic who appreciates old game design and nuance and context beyond the blinders of what modern game discourse tends to be. That's no shade, because it mirrors my own journey too; games can be so much more than shiny new toys to play with and discard when they "get old" or whatever. Happy to keep watching you! -Signed, a fangirl

I got used to the Star Fox zero controls but I still deeply dislike them. There's just no world where those controls can compete with the intuitive, snappy, and simple 64 controls. Beyond the controls though, I found the level design pretty hit or miss. Screw the deployable robot and the chicken walker man.

I think the problem with the Wii U's legacy is it was just a bad system. I bought one at launch and barely ever played it. It sucked to use, didn't have enough games, and was not really more powerful than the 360 and PS3 which is a serious problem when you now need to render a second screen. It really doesn't help that basically every game ever made for it that's worth playing is on the Switch now where it usually runs better and has more content. Star Fox Zero, Xenoblade Chronicles X, and those two Zelda ports are basically the only things that are stuck on that hardware. Star Fox is a big ask since it's got such a steep learning curve, Xenoblade is good but niche, and I'd argue the Zelda ports barely even count since they're ports. I even prefer the GameCube version of Wind Waker because I don't like the new bloom lighting. The Wii U's legacy is it failed massively so the Switch could soar. And honestly, there's nothing wrong with that.

The wii u was my associates degree era system and is a time i look back on fondly especially since its slow relase schedule gave me time to just stop and enjoy all the retro titles i missed growing up and replay old favorites. I didnt own a PS4 till summer of 2016 and honestly i was satisfied with that as nothing I wanted for the system was even out until about that time frame until then most of the time i was playing stuff on wii u, 3ds, PSTV and my model 1 PS3 that could play ps1 &2 games honestly would kill for another slow period as i feel like too much is comeing out right now
