You're in Somerset, so drive down a little country road and you'll find farms selling real, scrumpy cider.. min alcohol is around 7%... If its cloudy, with no bubbles, and has sediment at the bottom of the glss/bottle, you may have found the real deal. : )

As a norwegian, been travelling a lot, been in a lot of countries, and when I do the groceryshopping, and not knowing everything, I do ask for help! The ones working in the store or if I see an older lady (!!!! Who knows best, right?), I ask for help and/or recommandations for whatever dish I am going to make. And to my sorrow, outside of Europe, bread has been awful!🍞 And at this apartment, it did have an oven? So the packed of premade chicken for salads, you could have bought a couple of chicken fillets and cooked them yourselves. Cheaper, more meat, and... easy! 🐔 When you took the unsalted butter.... I was thinking.... Oh no! Go for the salted on... 😊 Hope you will try another part of Norway, if you are coming back... Check out Lofoten Islands! Or Aurora Borealis-watching in the north during the winter.... Reindeer- or dog-safaries?

Real scrumpy from thatchers farm when I went in the end of the 70s was slightly green with little bits in. And made your pee smell next morning (not joking). The only cider types of cider they had in their Barn bar then was Dry, Medium and sweet which was sold in 5ltr plastic containers. You had a choice of mixing the three types in a half pint glass to get your mixture to your liking before buying your 5 Ltrs to take home. When you made your choice of mix you told the guy behind the counter and directly in front of the 3 massive tuns of the ciders and filled your container with that weeks concoction!!! The designated driver could only sample 1 half pint glass before driving though! That was how I first came across Thatchers ciders not the multi colour swap shop of choices you found there! I believe in the US cider is a non alcoholic juice drink and not like the traditional cider we have here in the UK? While you’re down in that area why not check out the Cheddar Gorge where the real Cheddar cheeses come from. The traditional mid day meal down in Devon and Cornwall area is the plowman’s lunch with a slab of cheddar, ham fresh bread salad veg and pickles on your plate with a nice pint of your choice to wash it down with. Cheers people have great time wandering the south west!
