Another interesting category is single use board games, such as the escape room board games where in order to escape you have to make permanent changes to the content.

I want to agree with what the video says, but it is too distorted because the UNIVERSE is in infinite rotation for eternity at a speed of 38 million times the speed of light, which is GYROSCOPIC INERTIA or TIME GREATNESS or MOVEMENT or wrongly called Gravity without the need for dark matter and energy or expansion of the universe or big bang. All possible INTEGRAL UNIVERSES are in infinite rotation from the speed of light to infinite, for phantom universes 👻 to Supermassive universes, respectively, the PERFECT UNIVERSES 👌 between 38 million times the speed of light and 20 billion times the speed of light. All possible UNIVERSES are contained in the INFINITE HYPER SPACE where TIME, LARGENESS, matter and light no longer exist, only ANTIMATTER at constant and negative temperature and entropy in degrees Kelvin.

Hey thanks! I dunno, I was just thinking what would give it some physicality, and because they are on a mountain, a catapult would be funny. A fun/challenging part of these maps is figuring out the illustrations :)

thank you so much, they were supposed to give me advanced Math in the 6th grade, but there was no such thing for girls in Kansas in 1969. I will never forget my disappointment when they wanted me to review grades 1 thru 5 for the whole year.

Out of curiosity, what would you consider a Simulation game? You didnt give an example but my initial assumption is Campaign for North Africa as the rules and length make it kinda difficult to play as an actual game

Good on you for doing your own art. It looks good, and it cuts out leverage publishing companies can use when negotiating contracts. Did you publish it, or did you go through a publisher?

I wouldn't call chess an elimination game because you want to take opponent's pieces. Rather the objective is to checkmate and therefore eliminate the opponent, taking pieces may just help you get there.

I think if I were to make this map I would place roleplaying games behind Wargames/Conflict Simulation, as D&D originated from wargaming tradition. They feedback into storytelling games, but create this distinct loop, where Wargames have far less to do with the narrative cohesion of a storytelling boardgame.
@elsesome2707Күн бұрын
Worth noting that many of Cole Werhle designs are heavily rooted in wargaming simulation: Pax Pamir trying to capture the shifting nature of Afghan War, the Great Game; John Company simulating the inner workings and disfunctions of likes of East India Trading Company and callousness involved; and Root originally being intended to be a counterinsurgency simulation.

Another thing that you didn't mention about eurogames is that they are often language independent. You don't necessarily need to read text to play them.

Under "Abstract" games, where does "Set" fall? The DNA seems closer to Connect 4 than configuration games...

There are multiplayer games and there are two player games which for some reason don't join the multiplayer games

1:00 No. Board games always include board. If it does not include board, it can be a card game or dice game or maybe even pen and paper game. (And obviously, there are overlaps.) They are all tabletop-games. And there is even broader category of "social game" which would include ie. multiplayer video-games or hide and seek.

Fantastic rundown. Amazed by the natural world around me and the incredible ingenuity of my own species. O’Doyle Rules!! Where do poppies fit into all this? Cannabis was referenced, but I think our opiate alkaloid-producing friend deserves a mention for the sake of modern medicine.

If the concept of truth and knowledge in information is ever going to be true and known, the false information must be removed. It honestly drives me crazy no one actually sees a black hole through any telescope. Not one actual telescopic find of an actual black hole. Yet the world would rather keep lying about this science. Just show an actual picture of the next galaxy over with a black hole in the center eating up the surrounding elements.

Idk if id make a category "abstract" I moreso think from a game design perspective you have games of complete information (tic tac toe, chess, connect 4, go), mind games (rps, guess who, mafia) , and games of chance (uno, blackjack, candy land) as your most broad categories, though ig a lot of game have different elements of these and they reflect games more than board games

Never heard the term 'Ameritrash' until watching this video. Might be because I'm American. Maybe also because the name seems purely derogatory and the board game youtube channels I've watched in the past tend to be rather courteous and have chosen not to use it.

Science is not frozen like red and black on a roulette spin, therefor this is unusable even as a pointer as we have so much science data that offsets X, Y. Also time framing offsets that. P.S I am so sorry this was not very constructive 😅

Would love to see at least one example of each game as the "prototype" of that game as in this game only or predominantly use this mechanic, like Parchis is the pinnacle of cross and circle games.

seven years ago, my friend took me to a board game convention here in central usa. I played my very first game of Dungeons and Dragons that day. I won. I nailed them when I planted a hotel on Boardwalk. About halfway through they thought that they had me with high, jack and game, but I put my straight flush against their dice and had their Bishop ready to convert.

And "the Cones of Dunshire" is the epitome of board games, where it somehow connects each and every element (besides themes) on this map.

4:53 Not the evils of capitalism, the evils of land/natural resource ownership. Capital investments, into things like buildings or stocks, were fine. "The Landlord's Game" was Georgist, not Communist. *Sigh.* I'm getting tired of explaining this...

Nice map! I'm not certain if I would put change the "Abstract" title to something like "Mechanics" or "Base Actions", and then place the "Abstract" word as the rare friend of the Theme Garden... not sure. I'm also wondering if the "crawlers" mechanic is covered? I mean, moving characters/pieces in a map/field. Maybe by the Elimination? Position? Not sure... Anyway, thanks for sharing!

If card games and dice games count as board games, then ttrpg games are absolutely board games. Yes, the rules can get loosey goosey, and some groups are more story based... But rules as written, ttrpg games are absolutely tactical games that combine elements from lots of board game types; elimination, capture, turn order manipulation, dice roll statistical chance and risk/reward considerations, piece alignment and area control... They aren't a 2nd class citizen of board games, they are a next Gen evolution of traditional board games. Also, I love asymmetric games! First experience of it was in a video game at a Lan party (can't remember the name), where there are 2 teams, and one person acts as leader to coordinate movement, deal with resource management and base building with an overworld view, and the rest of the players on the team were on the field gathering resources or attacking the enemy and sometimes even doing what the leader commanded lol. It was such a neat idea! Several years later I got into ttrpg games where this is kind of the default between the DM and players. But more recently i have really enjoyed simpler board games like root that play well with asymmetrical play! So much fun! Wish I had more time to actually play these! Another form of asymptomatic play are games like King of Tokyo where everyone plays by the same base rules with the same dice and energy cubes, but each character has a different gameplay style. And the strategy changes drastically dependant on the characters chosen. And there are a few different win conditions, so that conflict of goals really keeps things interesting.
