why do boat manufacturers put this stuff in in the first place? if they know this is the inevitable outcome?
@bowl8303 күн бұрын
I get this question a lot lol. I talk about it in another video. In some cases it’s part of the structural support and adds rigidity to the hull. I think that’s insane. Mostly it’s there to take up space and buy you time. What I mean is it takes up space so water can’t. My boat is a perfect example. Without the foam I use I could easily have 200 gallons of water under my floor without knowing till it is above the floor, by then it’s to late if I was to throttle up. I would most likely swamp my boat. With the foam. It only takes about 10 gallons before I see it. I do like the sheet foam better that way I can leave gaps for water to escape to the rear to be pumped and it allows air flow to help dry out the hull.

How wide and deep inside dimensions when you get some time
@bowl83011 күн бұрын
Sorry I thought I replied. I’ve made a couple of these. I used a larger pump on some. So I made them 6” for some and 7” for the bigger pump. Otherwise I would get what pump you want to use and use that to determine the inside

Got some leaky rivets, this is by far the best video I have seen for fixing them. Although, I do wonder since all the leaky rivets go thru a rib on the inside, do I need to sand under the rib so the aluminum is clean on both sides? Thanks
@bowl83021 күн бұрын
Thank you for the kind words. The seal is achieved by the rivet being smashed out against the drilled hole. The surfaces don’t help that much. I’d just clean as best as you can. Maybe spray a little paint on the surface then put new rivet in. Thanks for watching.

It won’t hurt in this case. Just using the gears in the foot to turn the powerhead.

What if I took the stuff off without the taping how would I know how exactly to put it back?

It just helps to keep the magnets indexed right. If you put it together and it turns backwards you need to take the bolts out and turn the case 180°

Hey brother….your advice helped me save my sons outboard on a 97 force…….was wondering if you had any guidance as to why the engine is starting and immediately running wide open after replacing both cables? Is this an adjustment issue on the cables or could it be in the linkage or the carb??? Thanks brother and keep up the great work

I recently picked up a 10 ft Livingston that has a 1981 9.9 Evinrude. It hasn't been used for 14 years and was stored outside under tarps. Before I attempted to start it, I removed the plugs and sprayed penetrating oil into the cylinders. The next day, I slowly turned the flywheel. It turned freely, and I didn't feel any grinding sensation or sticking. Before I tested the compression, I turned it over by hand some and oiled the cylinders again. It has 90-92 psi in each cylinder, so I tried starting it. It didn't start. I've determined that the fuel pump is bad, and it's got a cork float in the carburetor. The float doesn't float anymore, so now it's a sink.😂 I ordered a Carburetor rebuild kit that comes with a plastic float and a fuel pump rebuild kit.Right now, I have the carburetor soaking in white gas camping fuel. I would've liked to use the big can of Berryman's, but evidently, we can't buy that here in the big metal can anymore. I'm hoping to have it running in a few days. I also cleaned up all the ground wires and applied dielectric grease. Spark is strong. After I get it up and running, I'll replace the water pump and thermostat. That looks pretty easy except for the lower bolt on the thermostat housing/plate. Idk how that's gonna come out. There's gotta be a trick that I'm not aware of? Otherwise, it looks like the whole power head has to come off,just to replace the thermostat. Does it have to come off?

Nice work I just subscribed after watching part one, two and this, I cut two pieces of aluminum with the plasma cutter one for the dam and one for the inside against the back, many good ideas from your series of videos on the transom, ie the epoxy (over 150 must of went up some from 3 years ago) I like the pvc board idea but i might go with an aluminum support for the middle welded in on the inside back and epoxied in on the dam aluminum, or possible a liquid transom, depends if i can learn how to use the tig tomorrow, nice job on the boat what a fishing machine that will be

Did you vend gussets yourself for the angles
@bowl8304 ай бұрын
Yes everything is aluminum do it didn’t take much. I also used epoxy on all connections including corners. That makes it incredibly rigid and strong.
@SCDeerAddict4 ай бұрын
@bowl830 I realized by message had a typo, but since you didn't do it square on the sides, what did you use to make a gusset for those angles? Just aluminum flat stock that you bent with a brake? I am looking at possibly using 3030 aluminum extrusion for my build, still looking into it, but not sure if I want to use aluminum sheets or FRP panels and make my bracing a little beefier to support the FRP.
@bowl8304 ай бұрын
Yes I used flat stock to make them.

Thank you. I was able to clamp the pieces between wood 2x4’s and bend the sheets for the mid point corners. The 90° corners I used a 1x1 square tube for the corner and seamed it on each side.
