I've not used the app version recently, but I'd recommend making sure you have a fairly new updated one. Also can you connect stellarmate pi with ethernet to your WiFi extender or hub? Then your speeds will be good and therfore you can cross that off troubleshooting. Also if ekos disconnects, when you press play/connect button again does it come up saying, "ekos detects connection" resume yes/no"?? As often even tho ekos drops out, it hasn't actually stopped controlling your equipment. Stick at it, you'll tune everything up to being a handy tool for you soon. 👍

Hey good video. great comparison. I think the QHY268C is the clear winner. I would also like to buy a QHY268C. I searched KZbin for a long time until I found someone with QHY268C with KStars/Ekos. I currently have the QHY183C and I have to say, my first cooled one, takes really good pictures under KStars /Ekos and runs great too. Only runs with SharpCap 3.2 and major driver issues on Windows. Hence my questions, if I may: How well and reliably does the QHY268C run under Ekos and are there problems with the installation, and I have major guiding problems with Ekos (ZWO178C) up to 2.5 angular minutes. What parameters would you recommend. Thank you clear skies ;-)

Wayne, you are the 1st person that I saw that successfully has used the StellarMate App. Good job in figuring this out. I have the StellarMate OS, but I also have the ASIAIR. I tried the StellarMate App unsuccessfully about a year and a half ago. I had connection issues. (I also have connection issues with the desktop version too, but I’ve figured them out for the most part). I have one unit that I want to keep as a Ekos run setup, and it would be great to be able to run this off my iPad. I will have to browse your other videos to see if you have any more StellarMate App tutorials now that I’m guessing you’ve go the swing of things. I did not see how you Polar Aligned for instance. I wish I could get StellarMate app to not crash every 2 minutes. I'm using a galaxy Tab A7. Sometimes it will switch the wifi from my SM hotspot back to my home router. Thought about buying an iPad but don't want to waste money if the SM app will keep crashing on the too 😒

I did not have the same experience with Stellarmate. I was really excited when I saw that it had a mobile app so I ended up buying it, but my experience is nothing like the videos on youtube. Are you using a Raspberry Pi 3 or 4? Are you in the middle of a big city, where wifi pollution is huge? Are you using a more powerful tablet? I'm asking because it blows my mind how different of an experience we had.
@waynescave38442 жыл бұрын
I'm using a pi3 but honestly a pi2 is less complicated in some ways and wish I stuck with that. I use a huawei media pad android tablet as standard. I highly recommend getting you're pi from stellarmate then you know it can give you a good hotspot (internal WiFi) direct to your tablet and start from there. Learn the system as best as poss THEN move on with your WiFi setup and computer/pc control from indoors etc 😅

I used Stellarmate, a SkyWatcher AltAz GTI, and a 130PDS and on my first attempt at DSO photography, I got M33,M36, M38, M45 with nebulosity, and the Orion Nebula. I had issues where it lagged and I had to disconnect and reconnect. I can't even see Polaris, and I've never used the mount. Yet... nonetheless, regardless... I've looked NINA, and it looks great. I didn't even need any power but a USB charger for Stellarmate, my phone and the AA batteries in the mount. I could have carried it all in one trip in a pair of bags. Frankly, I can see NINA is more powerful. But it needs a full Windows PC, and has a massive learning curve. I can live stack galaxies in 5 minutes with a phone with Stellarmate. Will it get me on APOD or even AAPOD2? Nah. But it is actually very good indeed.

Yes some good points you raise thanks Bob, NINA and the full desktop version of kstars/stellarmate software are in fact as powerfull/flexible/capable as each other and to both of their credit doesn't take a huge learning vurve to be fair. @waynescave38443 жыл бұрын
Hello Astro Gerard-brilliant, you are about to embark on a fantastic imaging journey with your new camera like myself! I've owned mine for a year and have still only used 1 mode and 2 or 3 gain settings and keep learning more! The thing to ask yourself first is what type of sky are you imaging in and what type of imaging, be it narrow band osc filters or as I do mainly, broadband with a uv/ir cut filter (as qhy cameras have a plain glass screen where others like zwo have the uv/ir cut in their sensor glass screen) Either way you can't go too far wrong when imaging deep sky objects in the photographic mode at either gain 0 (offset around 12) or gain 27 (offset around 40-59) Of course the zero gain and longer subs give you better dynamic range but gain 27 drops the read noise dramatically which I have found to give cleaner images when only a few hours on a target is possible. I'm going to do some experiments with high gain mode and extended full well mode when I can, so please do subscribe to see future projects with this brilliant camera! 😄 Is also worth noting that if your focal length is on the shorter side, then binning 2x2 may get you best results.... Good luck and hope you get clear skies at your astronomy camp! 👍🍀
