I’d like to see a close up of those No-till coulters. Looks like they are mounted to the main frame. 6x6? I like how they are in back of the double disc fertilizer openers, but also in front of the row units without being mounted to the row units.

Blade is doing a nice job with the snow. Another thing some folks don’t realize is the mail box is not always beside the house front door, but at the end of a long farm lane. I especially liked the manual windshield wiper! Reminded me of an IH Scout I had one time with vacuum wipers! Stay warm… 👍
@pagrainfarmer16 күн бұрын
That side-by -side was originally bought by my late step father, who bought it new. He had me put those "manual" wipers on it for him. He left me the side-by-side when he passed away in 2018 because knew it would be handy around the farm. Yeah, our mailbox is at the end of the driveway, like what you described. It's an ordeal sometimes just getting the mail in inclement weather.

Well, here in PA we just "man-up" and suffer through it. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 You'll see in an upcoming video that this machine quit on me the other day, so now i'm back to plowing with my open station Oliver 1550 with a back blade.
@BillTheTractorMan17 күн бұрын
Thats one heck of a driveway! Around here snow blowers on the back of the tractor are popular. I wouldn't want to be looking over my shoulder so much like with your driveway! For now I just push snow with the loader and bucket on my Ford 861. It is not the greatest combo but it works good because I have to scoop and carry snow out of a couple spots. Your driveway makes me think I would want a 4x4 pickup with chains. We get a lot of snow usually in West - central MN. We also get a lot of high winds too, so we have to go out just to plow what drifts even if we don't get more snow.
@pagrainfarmer17 күн бұрын
Well, the side-by-side works very well, but right now, it has decided to stop running, so I'm back to using the Oliver 1550 with tire chains and back blade. Gotta get the side-by-side to the dealership. Working on these things is about the same as working on a modern car/truck.
@BillTheTractorMan17 күн бұрын
@pagrainfarmer I'm not a fan of working on ATVs or UTVs myself. My brother works on them occasionally and enjoys it. I used to have a 1982 Dodge Sno-Commander. Basically, it's a beefed up half ton truck set up for snow plowing. It was a great truck, and I regret selling it. It was very easy to work on, except it had a lot of rust from having a plow on it for its whole life.

Charlie looks like you got a pretty good rig to plow snow with, Sure beets my skid steer, At least you have a windshield ! Up till a couple years ago every time it snowed I had to go do mom and dads plus 3 other neighbors up and down the road and on the skid steer it got mighty cold with nothing to block the wind. From 1981 till 2000 I plowed snow at work on a gas fork lift with an 8 foot blade set on a 45* angle permanently and no snow chains with about 4 1/2 acres of parking lots loading docks and side walks to cover in a day. 3 of us did it in turns with one on the plow one with a shovel and one warming back up to switch out with the other 2. I really dont miss doing that anymore ! LOL Bandit
@pagrainfarmer17 күн бұрын
That sounds like it would really suck! The windshield helps a little, but there is space between the bottom of the windshield and the dashboard, so air/snow still comes in from the front, and there are no doors. Still an "invigorating" experience in the bitter cold. And, the side-by-side quite on me a couple days ago, so today I was back to plowing snow with my Oliver 1550 and the backblade. Gotta get the side-by-side to the Cub Cadet dealer - the engine started to overheat and after I parked it, it will no longer start. Plus, when it was overheating, I don't think the coolant cooling fan was running, and the clutch wouldn't disengage when the engine rpm's slowed down - which made it nearly impossible to shift gears. All has to be related somehow.

As ypu get to the top of ypur driveway there looks to be a HUGE tree stump... at least it appears that way on the video. Hate seeing big old trees go, must have been a beautiful shade tree. Thank you for ypur videos... love Oliver tractors, we have an 1855 FWA.
@pagrainfarmer18 күн бұрын
That tree was about 250 years old. It was a giant oak, but it got rotten inside and fell over 2 years ago, so we had to have it cut up and hauled away. Otherwise, it would have stayed. It was the oldest living thing on the farm and I hated to see it go. I saved a piece of the trunk as a base for my anvil in the shop, as a rememberence. Glad you enjoy my videos and hope you come back. That 1855 sounds cool!

@pagrainfarmer A friend of mine in Michigan has a 7' maple. The cambrium is still good all the way around at the base, but only about half of it grows above 15' tall. Like the upgrades to the 880 and your tire strategy. Had one just like it. I’d recommend beet juice for weighting the rear tires if you can get it. Our dealer put beet juice in our new T 4 because it won’t corrode the rims.

Thanks Dave! When I buy a new (to me) tractor, I enjoy tinkering with it and getting it just the way I want it. They are good old tractors and I can’t wait for spring so I can ride it around a bit and make sure everything’s good and find a job for it. I’ll look into the beet juice.

When weighting the tires, try to either windshield washer fluid or the "beet juice" fluid instead of chloride and your rims and valve stem valves will last (far fewer flat tires). Washer fluid is slightly less dense than chloride while the juice is heavier than chloride but more expensive -- but rims and flat tires are even more expensive.

Good advice - thank you! I know a lot of guys are now using windshield washer fluid or beet juice. Much less corrosive.

I think a good compromise would be corn head grease.

There are some guys who are going to windshield washer fluid or beet juice instead of calcium chloride. I think you have a good idea with the corn head grease. Afterall, it's not like they're high speed bearings or anything.

That is one slick 880, a diesel 880 would make me a very happy person someday. I'm not a fan of fluid in the tires much myself. I would rather add iron weights. My grandpa liked putting calcium chloride in tires and it felt like the tires were always getting punctures or the valve stems would start weeping. I have come to hate handling the stuff.
