I have been watching some of your videos; you have learned alot. I have been graduallly learning my mistakes I have made with my current grey. She was in the care of a friend while I was away this summer for 11 days and started picking her left scapula. Long story short; I had it treated; she has healed; is on some meds; but the overall recommendation is a collar. Which she hates; and I think she is really depressed. So I have been gradually weaning her from it giving her time out and she is now mainly preening; I also have been bathing her. We have had many animals over my daughter's lifetime; she is now an environmentalist with dogs; I have my Cami and can spend more time;.. My question is, can I still develop all the trust you say. she is better with me but still is fearful and will bite me. She likes being out of the collar. The vet seems to think she will always self mutilate. I do not. But unfortunately , she has no belly feathers. I am trying to learn as much as I can to develop more trust but fear she will start picking that spot again. /the skin is fragile I love my bird so much.

This still makes me wanna cry. 😢 owning a Grey that's 40 years old, this is my biggest fear. I kept hoping on a video where you showed Smokey again. But i gues she never was found again.. 😔 I hope you're doing fine. And perhaps get a new bird someday. It will never replace smokey but it can give you a lot. Best of luck!

I just got two linies from someone. They're not really tame. Now after more than a week I can get one of them to put one foot on me. My biggest problem is that this guy needs a nail clipping but I think grabbing him will undo all the bonding Ive done so far. And I quess it will takes months if not years to get him to be comfortable enough it not being a problem. Other option Im considering is using an electrical machine that can shave its nails when they're protruding through the bars. However Im scared of injuring the bird when it might suddenly move :(

My ex-fiancee had an African Gray Parrot that i really loved. He seemed to like me back! She told me after her first breakup with me he didn't say a thing to her for three days! He the evening before second breakup(may I add final for i won't take her back!)was quiet. That is until i started to talk to him over phone. He became his usual playful self! He whistled and said several of his common phrases and he said four or five times my favorite phrase, "General Grey likes to poop!" Since this last breakup my attitude has been in basically "there is plenty of fish in the sea", and I blocked her phone and emails to keep her calling me! But about her African Gray General Grey. I miss him bigtime the I am accepting the loss! And may I add he still my favorite bird! I still miss that "General Grey likes to poop!"

What would I tell a prospective parrot owner? I would tell them that a parrot will live a long time and need a lot of time, care, and money from you. You need to make sure you want to spend literally HOURS every day with your bird. I take my parrots out with me to run errands or do social things. I want people to see that a parrot is not a toy or decoration, but a loving and interactive pet. I was able to do this a lot with my last parrot, who had been injured and could not fly. People tell me they didn’t know that birds are so cuddly and friendly.

Monk or Quaker parakeets are also very likely to talk. My last Quaker parrot used more than 100 words and phrases to ask for what she wanted or to comment on the situation. My current Quaker boy came to me at seven years old and is a quiet bird. I think he’s less talkative than my late Quaker because I live alone now, and my home is quiet. He IS able to speak but doesn’t speak often.

Just know that not all techniques work for every bird. I tried the yelling ouch one and he thinks it’s a game and bites me for fun now and then laughs lol

The first time I watched your channel was today. My wife and I have both had birds most of our lives and I wish your Smokey would show up as our birds have perches on the security door. I would make sure he got back to you! Birds have a special bond with their person for you. I had a sun conure that got scared and an idiot left the door open, thank God I caught up with her. So bummed to hear it, were wolf dog and bird people, a special combination GB

I only found this video today. First, I am so very sorry. I lost my gray 3 years ago in almost the same way and am only now able to come back and look at videos and was just shocked this had happened to you and Smokey. Your videos are still very important and such a great example for other bird owners to follow. Blessings to you and your family.
