Well, I'll go with the foraging toys and the vacuum cleaner. I have a small cage for my bird but I live in a 2 bedroom apartment and my bird is only in the cage at night to sleep. He's a green cheek conure which is also free flight trained and he comes with me everywhere so he doesn't need a big cage to get enough exercise. But I'd definitely recommend the aviary for someone who works 8 hours a day and the bird needs to be 5 days a week all that time caged. I can not recommend your videos enough, especially to new bird owners. You really encourage what I consider the most important things for captive birds in the most respectful manner. You have enough followers to be making a good impact on a lot of birds' lives. I hope I can help getting more people to listen to what you have to say for their bird's sake. Thank you, I am very proud of you (I probably sound like your mother hahaha)

You have very good vids. I had no idea such birds were very expensive, as well as the investment in cages, toys, training, time, fresh food prep and the fact that you have to get parrot sitters if you go on vacation or business trips. It's not the same as sending a cat or dog to be cared fir. These are different animals and could get emotionally scarred. It's like adopting a young child. You have to homeschool it and instead of clothes, provide toys and stimulation. It's great to see these vids, but it makes you realize your limitations.

Your videos are always so wonderful, I wish every parrot owner could be like you! My additional essentials for keeping my budgies are definitely a safe/quality bird carrier since my birds travel and take vet visits very well when provided a good sturdy carrier, an emergency backup cage or travel cage in case one of my birds needs to be quarantined and for smoothing over the process of moving from apartment to apartment, when I have to move my birds always have a home set up for them while their giant flight cage is on it's way, and finally, a bird first aid kit with certain medications (stress meds, antibiotics and anti-mite meds as recommended by a vet), cornstarch and hemostats in case of a broken blood feather and hand feeding formula.

I kept reading next I wanted any kind of conure, I did not want a large parrot as a first time bird owner. Next I decided that Indian ringnecks matched my personality perfect. Hi! Since you stopped posturing, I now have a a bird myself a rescue blue front Amazon 40 yrs old, and when I was preparing to get him, which took a year, I watched a lot of your work. He was a very aggressive bird and I had to ignore all the blood. Your video on biting was great especially the bit where the bird doesn’t want to hurt you anymore, but nips too hard. You suggested we yell and walk out on the bird. The bird has been really careful since. I don’t know if I would have got him without the support of your videos. So you see I am delighted to hear you are back 🙏🏾

we had built an aviary outside for our macaw & smaller parrots out of a trampoline frame & wire, it's shaped like a tall dome. it's absolutely huge & big enough for a couple macaws if we were crazy enough to have more than 1 haha. Now if the weather could compromise with us! being in florida, the storms & heat make it difficult for spending too much time outside, at least until we've finished the weather protections & misting lines

just a minor math quibble; your new aviary is (AT LEAST!) 2.5x bigger in EACH direction, making it actually more like 15x (volume = L x W x H or 2.5 x 2.5 x 2.5) bigger (or more). not that it matters, i'm just slightly OCD and/or pedantic about that kind of stuff, lol. always love to see more vids from you. so informative, and smokey is always a pleasure to watch, too.

you are the best person to describe what is needed for my birds. I have an African grey , and Harlequin Macaw. I do not have foraging toys but I will be getting my birds some. I have a front deck that all I have to do is close half of it in. so they can stay outside during the daytime. of course while I'm there. I'm. so impressed in your information about your darling smoky. my avery bites me when he gets out he doesn't want to go back in. so what can I do to keep him from biting me when I put him up. plus I think his cage is to small. That's why I just decided while you were showing his aviary for her. you are totally awesome !!!

Aaawe..I luv her too.. great vid and ty I appreciate all the hard work and dedication it takes to make these vids... waiting on my conure ...w be here Wednesday... my lovebird was 19 and passed in November. I don’t have any experience w a conure parrot so I’m watching, watching, learning all I can and I thank you for the help. Only thing I can think of you didn’t mention maybe is paper towels to line the bottom of the cage.. I also bought a uv light because I saw that they need the vitamin D to absorb the nutrients we feed them...my lovebird lived to be 19 on a seed diet only and millet... I wouldn’t recommend that, lol, but I want to give my new baby every opportunity to flourish. Reason for the light is because I don’t have a nice back yard to take my bird outside so if he’s only inside that’s why I feel my bird might benefit from a up light.

As a new parrot owner, these three things are a MUST!!! I bought a 300$ corner cage with a stand on top! And she loves it but I know she would like to travel larger areas, now I am working on an aviary. Toys are extremely necessary to a bird's health. On average I spend about 60-80 dollars a month for bird toys. I like to rotate the ones she doesn't destroy within 4-5 days. Foraging toys are super useful when you pick up extra shifts or when out of town. My parrot was given a seed diet at an early age so me and her are working REALLY hard to convert to veggie/fruit/chicken/and pellet diet. My Greencheek Amazon hates water so showers are a struggle anyone have the same problem? Would love to hear about your bird or suggestions!!

I'm so greatful that you made this video I have three birds a 3 month old Quaker, and 2 cocktaiel father and son , the 2 cocktaiel use to belong to my sister who was very abusive to her birds the baby which is the son was born in her home which I had the pleasure of see it since a hatching know he is an adults bird ,we have always touch baby since it was a lol baby but dad have always hated to touch because of the abuse that he received from my sister's home ,know they belong to me ,my sister could no longer take care of them, and know I've had them for almost 3yrs they are so great father and son are free flying birds I take care of them and have been working with the father which have the most beautiful name that an owner can give a bird macho 🤣🤣🤣🤣 and his son is baby , macho went from being so aggressive and trying to bite and have drawn blood from peoples finger to know just not liking to be touch although I have touch him twice, he love to give me kisses he porch on my hand but he just don't trust the hand I've given him treats and show how excitement when allowed to be touch but he just don't like to be touched baby love to be touch they have both been on my hand and will take food but dad hates it .not one time dose macho ever bites me but he display his dislike when I try to rub his head , I'm so pump up that I've gotten so far with macho and we still got a lot of work to do ,I just want to make it easier for my baby bird and let him know that what he been through will never happen again to him please help a dad to help a dad thank you sorry for the long out story lol .....

What about bar spacing for conures? I do want a larger cage or indoor aviary, but the wire spacing is to big. Looking for 1/2 inch. What brands?
@SeabassFishbrains5 жыл бұрын
You can find some pretty great cages available on amazon, my budgie cage has 1/2 inch bar spacing (which they do great with) and it's about 5 feet tall by 3 1/2 feet wide, it cost about $130 and I got it on Amazon from a brand called Everila. It's super sturdy and fairly easy to put together and take apart for moving. If you're willing to go up to the $200-$300 range you can find even bigger cages too.
@wingsNpaws5 жыл бұрын
I would also search on amazon.
@bendettakreutzer16845 жыл бұрын
I have looked on Amazon can’t seem to find anything bigger than 2-3 inches. Her cage is a good brand nothing wrong with it, I just want to increase by double maybe. I’ve thought of buying another cage the same size and trying to “tie them together with ziplocks. Not ideal. Say hello 👋 to Smokey, and you of course.
