Thank you all who have already left us with such positive, kind, and encouraging words below. If you haven't done so, I'd like to know about your bird (if you have one). If you don't have a bird, let me know what drew you to my channel! Also, I encourage you guys to respond to others comments (keeping it positive, of course)! Spread kindness. P.S. There likely will be a few negative comments on here as there is in every video; I ask that you simply ignore those comments. They don't deserve your time or mine.

Well I do have a 7 m old grey who loves cuddles, outdoor walks etc and can't really fly due to clipped wings( clipped by the seller) but his playful and interactive personality always reminds me of the adorable Smokey. I do have a request though. Can you please make a video on their daily plan because I seem to be struggling with that a bit. Hope you reply. #staysafe

Hi Smokey! I’m so glad you are back! @wingsNpaws I’m so glad you are making videos again. I watched your channel a lot and it has inspired me to get my African Grey Lelu. She is amazing 😉. Please check out my videos and comment your honest opinion. Me and Lelu have a long way to go so please give me input on my videos. I’ve only had her for 6 months and she is 3 years old. I adopted my 15 year old guy 7 months ago and he came clipped, so im looking forward him having his wings back but it´s going to take a while because his feathers keep breaking. He will free fly at some point (it could take years though) but for the time being, I take him outdoors a lot so he has some sunshine and gets used to being outdoors. He really loves being on trees on sunny days. We live in Ireland so he lives indoors and we really envy you for the sunshine you get.

Not kowing anything about birds or grey behaviour i handreared my grey (after losing a 19yr old cat to old age) and would have been lost without your advice and general info videos. My now 2yr old congo grey male is deathly afraid of water in any kind of spray can/bottle the shower cubicle, as well as or soft rain/mist outside (warm or cold). I have figured out to hand drip water on him when he presents with sower behaviour over his waterbowl on his tree stand and now loves showering by being dripped from my hand! Stil afraid of rain or spray/water cans, but hopefully we wil get there oneday! Love your work Please post more when you are able!

Thanks for sharing Smokey with us!💚 Quick question: Is there any value to covering some of the aviary on top so Smokey feels safe from aerial predators and/or to provide shade all day? Thanks a bunch!🙏🏼😊
@wingsNpaws
@wingsNpaws 4 жыл бұрын
Great question! There is always some shade in her aviary because of the tall plants and trees we planted around it. I use transparent corrugated roofing on the top so technically, it is covered but you can see through because it's a clear material. I went with this because it allows sunlight in, allowing the aviary to have natural light and birds need sunlight to synthesize vitamin D3. In addition, I want her to be able to see the sky and the birds that live in our area and vice versa. If she were to ever accidentally fly off, the local birds will be less likely to mob her and give chase if they're familiar with her. In the event of a fly-off (gosh I hope it never happens), she will also not be spooked by crows, ravens, balloons, blimps, etc since she's seen them inside her aviary.

Smokey is so beautiful! My Max adopted me because he had been abused and I couldn't refuse, but I live in Montana and have no support in our 20 years together. He doesn't fly well but you inspired me to build him a great floor perch and we are finally getting a clicker to start target training.. it should be here today. He has started destroying his feathers this past couple years and I have been very stressed out over it and doing everything I can but he doesn't want to sleep in his cage and has become quite needy with me being home all the time. Despite us both having difficult histories, he has been a real trooper and remains a very sweet boy.

My African Grey is very curious, very smart and has moments of aggressive behavior mostly biting. We are working on her behavior and I'm trying to find ways to understand what she is telling me so that hopefully over time, we can build a relationship with each other. She doesn't fly because the roommate I live with won't allow it. So most of her exercise comes from walk around her cage and walking around the floor.

miss you and the knowledge you brought to us I know you decided to stop posting on your Instagram because of countless ignorant people but there's a setting to disable comments I would love to see your daily updates and parrot vids and training etc on social media again hope you've been well :)

Thanks for the tip! Actually, I haven't received any negativity from instagram; it's more from youtube. I've learned that those who post all the negative comments are usually kids (at least, that's what I think). I've actually thought very seriously about disabling comments here on youtube but decided it would be unfair for my subscribers who I enjoy hearing from.

Hello, I bought a 1 and 1/2 year old African grey 1 month ago. He is very nice, does not bite, and lets us pet him. His only problem is that he doesn’t step up. He will come on my shoulder, but even after that he won’t step up. How can I solve this problem? Please answer as soon as possible thank you and I’m glad your back!

Love seeing your calm, & well cared for and loved, birdie. My little girl, a green-cheek conure, has been feisty since we got her as a baby. She likes to nibble on our fingers on occasion but doesn't really destroy her toys (I have to try the fresh branches-idea). She can be incredible cute one minute and a pain in the xxx the next; but since she's very vocal we have some good arguments :) She usually wins.

LOL - don't they always?! Yes, you HAVE to try fresh branches or even veggies for them to shred up. Let me know how it goes!

You're welcome! Try the tip I gave in this video and add foraging toys filled with his food at dawn and dusk. This may help with the screeching.

Well, happy to see you again guys...I'm planning to get an African Grey shortly. Which would be better an indoor aviary/ cage or an outdoor aviary. In a day how much time Smokey spend in her aviary!?
@wingsNpaws
@wingsNpaws 4 жыл бұрын
I guess that would depend on where you live. There is no point in getting an outdoor aviary if she's not able to spend a lot of time in it due to extreme weather. However, if that is not an issue, an outdoor aviary is easier to clean and your bird benefits from having natural sunlight (important for getting vitamin D3).

We have two new African Grey siblings, Smoak and Stella. They spend their night in their cage, but their days are spent flying freely around our home. I want to know if I should clip their wings or leave them as free fliers and what are the pros and cons of both. BTW: Your aviary is inspiring!

I found your channel, because I was looking up information about what to do if a bird bites you. Not because I have a bird that does that, but because I want to get a parrotlet in the (sadly distant) future and I heard that a common issue is that they can start biting, so I wanted to know how to prevent that or how to deal with that. I ended up really liking(and subscribing) this channel, because it also has a lot of other informative, interesting and cute videos and I just love seeing Smoky interacting with you♡

My bird is a female, she bites but she is still a nice bird. We are teaching her to not bite and when my brother moves, she is getting my whole room to herself. My bird rarley swears, (Only because of my dad) and she loves dancing and taking baths on her own in her water bottle, she sometimes poops in her food bowl. LOL
