Theoden is my favorite character in the series by far. I remember I read the books for the first time immediately prior to the movies coming out, and I thought that then as well. But the movies elevated the character sooo much more. Bernard Hill was absolutely fantastic in this role. RIP

My Dad and I would go to a movie while Mom was playing bingo on Saturday evenings. We saw a re-run of Goldfinger at a local cinema. (Yeah, re-runs were a thing in the 70s.) Anyway, we go to pick up Mom and she asks Dad what we did for the evening. To which he replied: "Oh, gambling, fights, women. The usual fare. Right son?" The only thing that I was lacking for what happened next was popcorn.

The actors in the Lord of the Rings trilogy were all fantastic. They went through incredible hardships during shooting including serious injuries such as slashed feet, broken ribs, and even broken teeth. Yet within hours, sometimes minutes, the injured actor was back in the saddle, ready to work. Compare that to the Rings of Power actors who, frankly, are mostly wimps. Amazon actually hired a mental therapist for cast members suffering from emotional distress on the set. Give me a break.

I saw The Rock when it came out and just saw it as a latter day Connery film. Then recently I chanced across the ‘Last James Bond film’ rumour and days later The Rock popped up on telly and I watched again. Now I can never unsee John Mason as 007. Great work piecing together the chronology. Unfortunately it just messes up the rest of the Eon Productions James Bond universe though… 😆

Theoden was right leading his people to Helm's Deep. Any other decision would have led to the complete loss of his host. I'm tired of people just assuming that Aragorn (and Gimli) are correct and him wrong.

The thing is, and I know this is gonna sound harsh because I absolutely adore both Bond and Nolan but… James Bond movies aren’t art. I mean, they are, but they’re not “un film de (director)”. They are largely studio driven action films. The problem with getting an A-list director would be, as the video explains, putting them first. With Nolan, you’re not just getting a director, you’re getting an Oscar winning producer and writer in the same package. Nolan would want a film by Christopher Nolan. Eon want an Eon production. At the end of the day, Nolan has done “Bond-type” movies. He’s done Inception, he’s done Tenet. He’s also done franchise movies. And as a Nolan fanboy, I would rather see Nolan move forward with his filmmaker rather shutting up and playing the hits. Doing what’s expected of him. And as for Bond, I would rather Mike and Babs give a chance to a newer filmmaker or maybe a director experienced in action. Heck, get in Christopher McQuarrie for all I care. Really, they ought to be looking for another Lewis Gilbert, Guy Hamilton, Terence Young or Martin Campbell. Not an auteur.

The irony is The spy who loved me wasn't written by Ian Flemming, and the film has nothing to do with the book. We're used to seeing film adaptations veering sharply from the books, but this film broke all boundaries. Fortunate we are that it did, had they adapted the book faithfully it would have been a pi--very poor film indeed.

Theoden was already my favourite character from the book (he’s the only character that puts his title after his name and it sounds badass - and the title is King. Legend) and Bernard Hill brought him to life.

Cutting Sauron out was the right decision but the way they edited it made it bizarre now that I think about it, look at the way the Olog-Hai defies Aragorn but it doesn’t much impact I feel like. It adds a bit of tension after Aragorn is put to the ground but still feels kind of flat (it sounds like I’m absolutely bashing the LOTR whereas this is the only downside I’ve ever thought about regarding this movie and it’s only because this video has made me think about it lol)

Sean Connery's character was shown to be vulnerable and he could be caught, trapped or hurt. Roger Moore's character, in contrast, was unflappable and seemingly untouchable. James Bond lost its edge when they made this change.

Honestly, I got much more of a vibe from the king that he sought death. He knew his kingdom and the world of men were doomed, and therefore was in a state of fight or flight. Eventually, he wanted both he and his men to go out in a blaze of glory, content with the fact that they'll lose. I think that's why he thought less of himself. He didn't have the strength that Aragorn had to stand and fight to survive; to win.

I started to appreciate Theoden with time, after growing up and having the capacity to understand his character fully, and yes, it is Bernard Hill's brilliant acting paired with Tolkien's perfect character writing. In particular, the scene where he mourns the death of his son. At first, Theoden talks with very long, formal sentences, fit for a king making a speech for large audience. He's composed, sad but firm, once again having to appear as this confident and strong public figure. Only after Gandalf's comment he switches to being a father who's just lost his child, with a much more straightforward and simple language, and an overwhelming emotion of loss. Emotion so suffocating that he doesn't yell, cry or do any theatrics. It's a phenomenal and very accurate portrayal of this kind of emotion, and one of the most memorable moments for me. Though, in most if not all scenes that give Theoden time to shine, he absolutely does. Great video.

as long as the spinoff film and prequel series keep to the same degree of conflict as John Wick has, then I think most fans will enjoy them. For example, if Ballerina is suddenly thrust into thwarting a world ending terrorist nuclear threat plot or the continental series is about the soviets vs USA nuclear war then most people will think: "Well that's bullshit, how is this linked to John Wick at all?"

Heath ledger simultaneously has the widest smile and the most 'toothless' smile possible from any actor. You only ever see maybe a portion of his upper teeth despite his smile reaching his ears. Any other actor doing the same would show both upper and lower teeth down to the gums, to the back of the throat and even the uvula (somehow). Its a very pleasing smile which makes it so terrifying in other roles (joker) with the right acting. Too often I find many actors (mainly actresses) doing full teethy smiles and looking like scared chimps

The Spy Who Loved Me is one of my top 3 favorite Bond films, along with Goldfinger and For Your Eyes Only. May be partly nostalgia, because The Spy Who Loved Me was the first bond film I ever saw and I saw it in theaters. I was only 8 years old and I loved it! Some parts were a little scary though.

If you're the father of a 3 year-old girl you can use the movie as I did to flip the switch in her brain that says "Knowledge is Power" and set her on the path to genius. I was with my daughter Hannah watching the scene where he ejects the Chinaman out of the Aston-Martin and I looked at her and said, *"They call him James Bomb because he always has a bomb in his pocket."* She nodded her agreement, evidently thinking *_"Daddy is always right. I must have been hearing the name wrong."_* A few minutes later she was tugging at my sleeve and said, *"Daddy. They're saying BOND. His name is James BOND! Not Bomb.",* to which I replied. *"Oh thank you Hannah. Boy I'm glad I didn't say that in front of a stranger. I would have felt like a complete fool."* She nodded her agreement. After that Hannah was a grammar Nazi and a dictionary reader. She had to protect daddy from saying stupid things in front of strangers, embarrassing himself. I still did say stupid things, very often grammar faux-pas of the most elementary types that she would quickly correct, for which I was always grateful. A year or two and she caught on to the game but the "damage was done". My little girl had an incurable thirst for knowledge that she still has thirty years later.
