One of the opening scenes was of a girl boss gladiator, told me all i needed to know. At this point, Mel Gibson is the only person keeping traditional masculinity alive in Hollywood.

Roger Moore, Pierce Brosnan enjoyed playing James Bond & it shows. Connery did not enjoy playing Bond while Daniel Craig wanted more to cross dress & explore his feeling, than play Bond. This shows.

Disagree. One of the Bond series' weaknesses is inconsistent direction & vision, but that's not an argument to not bring in another distinct one. There have been so many B directors out of nowhere that come and go and Skyfall proved an A list director could work. What's important though is that Nolan is a Bond appreciator who would respect the fans and the character unlike Mendes. Even though Nolan would break convention, the Bond series needs constant reinvention. It's been coasting on being a triple-A action franchise everyone goes to see and the return on investment is nearly unprofitable if the downward trend continues.

I have a deep passion for ancient Rome, and the real history and values of that era. That said, Gladiator II isn’t a documentary designed to educate. While I’ve watched reviews and am aware of many of the historical inaccuracies, I’m not overly bothered by them. I admit I’m a little disappointed that we didn’t get a more historically accurate portrayal of Caracalla, as he was such a fascinating figure, but I still plan to watch the movie. The casting doesn’t bother me either, especially since it features modern greats like Denzel Washington. I’m actually looking forward to it. As someone who genuinely enjoys reading ancient histories and studying this era, I don’t mind the creative liberties and think the movie has the potential to be enjoyable.

Compare this with Craig, who is always feeling & emotional. Craig is a good bond to get in touch with people who were born between 1985-2005, the millennials. They are very emotional & also feel a lot, thus would be willing to pay big for this type of emotional bond. However, people outside this age group find Craig's bond terribly bad & lame. Craig was a self loathing bond, who let his emotions get to him. We see this increasing as his movies go on. Moore's bond is perfection as the English spy. Warm, comical, but actually cold nationalist af.

Look at how Moore handles the challenges, exactly like a spy, like a fox. Physical action is the last option, he uses his brain, extracts information from everything & most importantly, does not give away information. He actually seduces women, with his chiseled face & charisma. Like girls want to tap that English man during which the fox extract information as well as recruits these girls for his mission. Other bonds rarely do this. Bond as an Englishman has more credibility to be a nationalist spy for Britain.
@ringostarr1038

The best British spy - Roger Moore as 007. The way he talks, moves & acts is how a British spy acts, like an English fox. He is soft most of the time, lethally handsome, and most important, pretending to not be a spy, successfully, with his comical play boy act. You would think this guy would never be a nationalist or serious player in the spy game. Connery was more like Scotland yard officer, a bull dog, than a fox. The others also were the same, they were announcing themselves as action stars, rather than actual spies, with Craig just down right being emotional reck at the end.

The last ride of the rohirrim always makes me cry. Theoden went there knowing full well he was about to die. And still inspired his men to give it their all. And in the end he died at peace saying he can go to his fathers and feel no shame whatsoever now- in contrast to how at helms deep he had felt a failure of a king. And acknowledging at the end it was his dutiful,loving niece who saved him , you know he died 100% happy. That’s how a man should die.

This was my absolute favorite Bond film as a kid born in the early 80s. I've been dreading going back to it because I am afraid of tarnishing the great memories of it with my now 42 year old perspective. But your vid here has inspired me to revisit it. Thank you! Love your work.

I am going through my November to Remember Bond marathon with the wife and kids and we just watched this installment in the spy series last week. I love how your video here serves to add to my love for The Man with the Golden Gun. Like you, I can see why people don't care for this film as much as I, but the commentary from those who made it along with your own statements, helps me place this into my Top 10 Bond film list. Thank you!

I remember traipsing down to my local Blockbuster to rent “A Knights Tale” on DVD. I loved it so much that when it was released for sale to the public I bought the DVD from Woolworths and the soundtrack from HMV! Lovely film, lots of heart and soul, feel good, good action sequences, romance, comedy all delivered by a brilliant ensemble cast with a dastardly antagonist, a dashing leading man and gorgeous leading lady.

I'm ride or die for Ridley Scott, even when he makes stupid shlock, it's still really good stupid shlock (I'm thinking of House of Gucci here f.e. or even Napoleon, though I personally just really unironically love that one). His films are always worth looking at from a craftsmanship perspective, he's really just always giving it his all, all the time, real angry anime grandpa energy.

Its a good thing they didnt try to make Nick Caves script because it is almost an exact copy of a book series by Barry Sadler called "Casca the eternal mercenary." In that series, a Roma Centurion, Longinus, kills Christ and is cursed to live as a warrior throughout history up to the Vietnam war and modern times. Im sure Sadler's estate would have sued the hell out of them. I mean the only slight change Cave made was replacing Longinus with Maximus. 18:20.

I find "The Spy Who Loved Me" To be a callback to every Bond movie that had ever been made before. It is the first to feature Bond killing a villain in cold blood, since "Dr. No" (with the line "you've had your six" in the former, and "You've shot your bolt in the later). It is the first to feature a Soviet agent as the main Bond Girl, since "From Russia with Love" (with Tatiana Romanova in the former, and Anya Amasova in the latter). It is the first to have Bond issued with a new specialized car, since "Goldfinger" (the Astin Martin DB5 in the former, and the Lotus Esprit in the later). It is the first to feature an underwater scuba battle since "Thunderball" (the main climax in the former and a mid-movie scene in the latter). It is the first to feature a ski chase, since "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" (The penultimate climax in the former, and the opening action in the later). It is the first to feature a platform at sea as the villain's lair since "Diamonds are Forever" (with the offshore oil rig in the former, and the Atlantis Sea-lab in the later). Although it features a train fight, like "From Russia with Love", this has been repeated before in "Live and Let Die". So this one is the first to feature people dangled by crane over a shark tank, since "Live and Let Die". It is the first to feature a car that can transform into an entirely different type vehicle, since "The Man with the Golden Gun" (with the airplane car in the former, and the submarine car in the later. Anyway. that's how I see "The Spy Who Loved Me" in relation to all the proceeding Bond movies. What do you think?
