Great reaction to two very good songs, looking forward to that deepdive! You should check out something called the trilogy of the lights next! It's three songs; Starlight, Shine and Arkadia. It's three songs about grief and overcoming it and it's a very beautiful watch if you get a chance to see them back to back.

Take for instance the most famous opera singers in the entire world -- almost certain none of them.write musical compositions or lyrics that become a famous as their singing voices -- NOT A BIG DEAL. In the beginning haters would dump in Su, Moa and Yui because they didn't play instruments or write songs. Ummmmm, nobody dumps on Adele for not playing instruments. It was very obviously anti Asian racism that created a huge wave of nitpicking posers with huge amounts of hatred. Sorry, I still get mad about the misogynist and racists that used trash all Japanes Women Bands. Thank God we don't see that anymore, but some of us still smolder and are way too protective, ha ha?

You're completely right, and people have short memories and will go back to these simplistic arguments, so it's important to keep defending them. I completely agree, the entertainment and music industry need a variety of talents, it's already amazing to be great at your thing 😂

Girl Power is very very strong in Japanese Rock, Metal and Jazz. So many all women bands. Also bands like "Asterism" where the guitarist is a woman, so there are lots of bands with very prominent women musicians.

Great reaction! LOVEBITES is a really great band, especially live, they sound fierce and always on fire. Their latest record, "Judgement Day" is pretty good, I really suggest you to check it out. I really like their more thrash metal side. LOVEBITES and BAND-MAID are friends, the ladies from LOVEBITES went to see BAND-MAID's performance from their 10th anniversary at Yokohama Arena. Akane (B-M drummer) and Haruna (LB drummer) have hung out together to eat ramen.

Poppy is a curious one. I'm a huge poppyseed and her success (or lack thereof) fascinates me. What I mean is her detractors talk about her like she's had taylor swift level success, when she's literally an alternative artist on an independent metal label. The few times she's signed with a major label, they've done jack shit for her. Yet, the "industry plant" bullshit persists. Poppy gets shit for a few reasons. the gatekeeping in metal is out of control. The rockists crap on courtney laplante too, but not to Poppy's level. My reasoning is Poppy is a "girly girl", so fragile men feel "wierd" liking her. Which is not to say Courtney and Tatiana schmyluk aren't feminine, but they're alpha girls who won't take any disrespect. Poppy on the other hand is very feminine and dresses and acts like an off kilter metal disney princess. Poppy is certainly no pushover (plus she's tall and absolutely shredded), but she does strike me as awkward and shy. So the haters smell blood because they think she's weak. No, she literally just doesn't give a shit what you think. And hyper opinionated keyboard warriors can't stand it. Poppy's also not "bubbly" and giggley, so even when she was doing pop, she didn't connect with pop fans because again, she's a bit of a strange bird (which is why I adore her). I could go on, but I've never seen an artist write such an endless stream of bangers with anthemic hooks (regardless of genre) and not blow up. If Billie Eilish released the song Stagger, she would be revered (even more) Poppy? No one cared. It's just not fair. I do think 2024 and 2025 will be Poppy's year(s). She'll never be a huge star because the only label to ever support her (Sumerian) just doesn't have the pull of the majors. But I think that suits poppy just fine. Some of the lyrics on Negative Spaces seem to relate to having no regrets personally or professionally. Let the chips fall where they may. I do think Poppy will get to a 3,000 seat venue sweet spot. That's a solid career as an alternative artist.

I was at the concert where this was filmed and you are correct that there is a bit of post production on this video, but probably less that you would think. Su-metal is actually that good. This performance was only the third time they had ever played Light & Darkness live, and it always takes a few shows for Su to hone her performance of a new song. Babymetal is confusing to a lot of people from the metal fandom because they don't operate anything like a conventional metal band where the performers write the songs, play the instruments, and perform the shows. Babymetal are really an idol group that does metal, rather than a band, which is part of the reason they are so polarizing, because metal fans have a lot of preconceived notions about what a metal band should be and Babymetal don't conform to those expectations at all. For their own part, Babymetal don't call themselves a band, they refer to themselves as a "metal dance unit". Babymetal are managed by the Amuse talent agency, which is an idol management company. They have a producer, Kobametal, who is the creator and mastermind of the whole Babymetal project. They have a team of song writers that create songs for them, although the girls have started to get more involved in the songwriting process in recent times; Su-metal is credited as the lyricist for the song Divine Attack on their most recent album. They also have a choreographer, Mikiko Mizuno, who designs their dance routines, as well as costume designers, and a whole production team that create their live shows. Babymetal is the product of the combined work of many people, and the whole organization that makes their shows possible is referred to as Team Babymetal. In this sense, Babymetal are very much more an idol group than anything like a conventional band, which is why you occasionally see accusations of them being a "fake band" or "industry plants", as they function completely differently to anything in the metal scene. When Babymetal perform live, they are accompanied by the Kami Band, who are top tier professional session musicians handpicked by Kobametal to accompany Babymetal. There are actually two Kami Bands, one made up of Japanese musicians, and one made up of American musicians. The Kami band for the past two years have been almost exclusively the American Kami Band, with the lineup being pretty consistent throughout. The Kami Band for this show and most of their recent tour is Chris Kelly (guitars), CJ Masciantonio (guitars), Anthony Barone (drums), and Clint Tustin (mostly) on bass, with Ryan Neff and Matt Deis filling in at times for some of the other tours. I answered your questionnaire, so hopefully my answers are helpful.
