Never was a fan of "Stairway to Haven" or "Smoke on the Water" I get ANGRY but don't think I would have written to Kerrang about it. Kerrang filled a few hundred pages over the years with comments about these Top 100s . Also without Geoff Barton dedication to the Heavy Metal cause, I think we would never have seen such mainstream crossover in the eighties with out him and as some said recently so many of these bands on the cover from 45 years ago are still going in one form or other. Long Live HEAVY METAL rock and roll.🤘🤘🤘

That pedal is designed to help 90's kids/poors to get their lower output pickups, like all the danelectro guitars that came with lipstick singles as well as most if not all the other "starter" electrics pull off a higher gain sound at relatively low volumes with their 15-50w practice combo amp. And it was AWESOME for that, that's why I loved it.

Hi Dunsy, When you mentioned Slade I just remembered their pivotal set at the 1980 Reading Festival. We never knew, until the day, that they would be taking the slot that Blizzard of Ozz had pulled out of. Much to the anger of many who had come specifically to see Ozzy with his new band, the crowd was fairly sparse when Slade took the stage. After three songs straight off the crowd started to grow until it was packed. It was indeed a memorable set for Slade and for the crowd, it was a real party atmosphere and I particularly recall the antics of some of the crowd who had decided to climb to the top of the large marquees and slide down hoping the rest off the crowd would catch them as the flew of the bottom. Slade were on form and played a fantastic set, Noddys voice was awesome and the band were tight. It was one of those moments in time that happen because of other circumstances, yes, I would have liked to have seen Blizzard of Ozz but this was something special. I did get to see Blizzard a few months later which was great, Ozzy always had fantastic musicians , a bit like Alice Cooper in that regard. Anyway thanks Dunsy. P.S. On a side note, I believe Def Leppard, or their management, had asked to be moved up the bill into Blizzards slot which they did. Joe Elliott was quoted as saying how could we follow that, especially as half way through their set the crowd were still chanting for Slade. And on another side note, just to acknowledge the great man..... R.I.P John Sykes

Cheers Dunsy! Used to watch these at the Thornaby Cons (Conservative) working man's club back in the day. Used to get signed in by Charlie Mackenzie (who drummed for a couple of semi-famous bands) as we were not members (and also under age, just). Cheers again😊

Very unique chorus pedal. The SEP mode is almost like Vibrato but different. The REV mode is not reverse which I first thought it might be but sounds great. Very “subtle” (which might not be the best word) sound even maxed. Perfect for those who don’t like their chorus warbly or crazy sounding.

Kerrang magazine was not available in the small Canadian city where I lived in '82. Meatloaf in 1982 was a fading rockstar, yet Judas Priest was hitting the FM airwaves in this country with 'You've Got Another Coming'. I hope you do several episodes of you riffing on those wonderful guitars in the future.

To this day I don't know what sparked my Interest in Motley Crue. I can't recall at all where I heard of them first I wasn't aware of Kerrang yet. I can only think a song must have featured on the Friday Rock Show. I got "To fast for Love" It's a killer album with some classic tunes "Take me to the top" "Too Fast for Love" and an album cover which is totally aligned to the contents, you knew exactly what you were going to get.

Another viewer of this video mentioned Lunatic Fringe by Red Rider. It's was a song inspired by the shooting of John Lennon. Yes they are Canadian and from my home province and turned out to have an awesome library of tunes. Another fun fact in case you didn't know, the album mentioned in the article As Far As Siam. Siam is now known as Bangkok which is where I am currently, well kinda, I am in Thailand at the beach about 3 hours from Bangkok.

For Iron Maiden I would have have to go with "Piece of Mind" this was the first time I saw them. The album I think is more melodic than "Powerslave" plus the songs don't have that ultimate annoying familiarity of "Number of The Beast". I sort of lost interest in Iron Maiden following "Powerslave" I'll see them for the third and last time this year, will be interesting to see what they play.
@DunsysGuitarWorld215 күн бұрын
First time I saw them as well! Wasn't lucky enough to catch the earlier tours. Great gig - might have been Grand Prix as support?
@thehellion999215 күн бұрын
Yes it was Grand Prix. I vaguely recall at the end of the gig the Grand Prix lads wandered on stage with towels around their waists, which Iron Maiden tried to remove. "Samurai" was a great title for Album with the neon warrior. Robin McAuley always sings so well, wish he was given more credit for his work. I have not been able to get this out of my head all day "Shout a bit louder , louder. can you hear me" repeat.. Some of these songs would not be out of place on a Foreigner or Def Leppard album.

Certainly a legendary guitarist, as you say Dunsy. When I first heard Stranglehold, I started listening to Ted's records, as with most bands or artists that have made a lot of albums, some were not as good as others, but his guitar playing always impressed me. His typically mid eighties sounding album Little Miss Dangerous has some great riffs and Painkiller a particular favourite of mine. I think Ted had a period of using PRS guitars but always went back to his trusted Byrdland over the years. Thanks for covering this song by Ted.
@DunsysGuitarWorld226 күн бұрын
Good call - I actually like those mid 80's abums too - even his cover of Little Red Book! Think he had a black and white striped PRS prototype?
