Seems like there is always a "gotcha" when dealing with health issues. I mostly stopped taking NSAIDs once I got to be 65 or so due to the warnings about increased risk of strokes etc. So Tylenol is my go-to these days when I'm hurting, of course that's got it's own issues. I've found that a good quality curcumin supplement seems to keep arthritis pain down, but have not really tried it for relief of major pain due to injuries.

Sedentary lifestyle. Doesn’t matter what you eat. Walking ten miles every day will prevent most heart disease if you start young.

I agree with you about avoiding a sedentary lifestyle and walking/keep moving every day. Even if you're stuck at a computer, getting a walking treadmill is a great option to get in miles of walking every day!

This makes sense. However, whenever I start running or doing other activities that put higher impacts on my legs, I usually get swelling behind the knees causing stiffness. Seems like Baker's cysts, which I thought were often caused by arthritis in the knee joint. So maybe I should have been running more in the past, but not really anymore?

Thanks for the comment. Sorry to hear about your knees. You're correct that it might be a Bakers cyst. Some imaging should help to diagnose that. Running or other activities that put impact on your knees seem to not be tolerated at the moment. Since I don't know you, I can't comment on your case specifically, but a gradual introduction with other activities with less load is often appropriate.

And yet a person, age 60, can have a CAC score of over 1400, be told that their heat is like that of a 70 year old. Get a nuclear stress test done, and be told their heart is that of a 40 year old?

I have always had a very high cholesterol ( 300 + mg/dl ) and I refuse statins so I started CCS q 5 yrs about 10 years ago at age 53. Here are my 3 results. I am 63 yo now and I’m on HRT. I am on zero drugs for any chronic disease. Age 53 = zero Age 58= zero Age 63= <1 (only found in my CCX) Current labs A1C = 5.6 FBS =95 Triglycerides =129 HDL= 51 Any counsel, doc ?

Hi I would love to help, but I hope you understand I can't legally give advice without a doctor/patient relationship. Congrats on the 0 CAC scores though!

Yup! I am shocked that a CAC score is not part of "required" stuff like Vaccination. I got mine several years ago... thx to my Cardiologist.

Agreed! It should be a part of every cardiovascular evaluation
