December 2024...got a Genie SD9000 here, the house was built in 1992. Replaced capacitor four or five times since I've been here (25 years). Now it's stopping on close & reversing--it just got a lot colder here, going to check alignment on tracks for square and maybe try some grease on screw--it's probably been running same stuff since original install. Spring busted maybe ten years ago, and went with dual spring set up---Ace was the place!

@@Steve-xl2mn awesome feedback! Thanks 👍🏼. Since the cold weather has arrived, I bet you need to adjust the force controls a bit stronger. They give the machine muscle. Also, since being a screw drive, the old grease gets hard inside the rail.

@@hchernandez03 since it is the colder months, you might want to turn up the force controls. Force controls are the muscle for the machine. When it gets cold out, your garage door opener works a lot harder. Depending on your make and model, horse controls are typically located up at the opener where the wires are plugged in at. They should be two separate dials, one for and up and one for a down.

I thought I had things finished up. Just tightened the springs and went to test the door. Apparently I wasn't looking carefully when I was routing the cable and it's wrapped around the channel the rollers fall in. While trying to get it undone, the cable loop that is attached to the bottom of the door came off the right side. So now the right side is lower than the left. How can I fix this?
@garagedoorgenius4 күн бұрын
@@ramblinman7153 go to the side that's touching the floor. Put some vise grips above a roller to hold it down. Then go to the other side that's off the floor. Loosen the set screws on the drum, VERY small increments. Your loosening them just enough that the door starts to slowly creep towards the floor. That's what we call "slipping the drum".
@ramblinman71534 күн бұрын
@garagedoorgenius will that give me enough slack to slip the loop over the bottom bracket, or do I need to remove the cable from the drum and rewind it? Also if I just want to give a tiny bit more slack in both cables, do I have to completely start over?
@garagedoorgenius4 күн бұрын
@ramblinman7153 you know, you could stick a winding bar in the spring, loosen it up, rest the bar against the door. Then just reset the cables. That's gonna be the safest and easiest.

@garagedoorgenius6 күн бұрын
@@markan7835 the model of opener in the video doesn't have a battery backup. Now I'm not saying the machine you have doesn't have one. You want to look for a square plastic cover, generally on the backside. Just 1 quarter inch screw to take out.

Thanks for the quick response - the beeping continues even after it is unplugged - Thus I'm thinking there is a battery somewhere - How is the remote code created o the pad outside… I cleared it
@garagedoorgenius6 күн бұрын
@markan7835 definitely if you hear beeping after unplugging it the battery backup is engaged and telling us that the battery is not charged. There's that little compartment lid I was talking about on the back side that you have to remove to gain access to the battery. Just unplug the battery. Put the cover back on and you'll be good to go. No beeping. That battery is an accessory meaning you don't have to have it.

@therealbrian732 okay, if the door is open and one side cable is off, use this video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gqrOiWmhhr2DfdEsi=KDqYdIbZy9oMHACx Now to get to the root of the problem. If one side cable is loose it could be the torsion tube may not be level. I always shoot a laser line from end bearing to end bearing. Right in the center of the bearing the line should be. If one side is higher than the other that will cause a loose cable. Also, make sure the horizontal tracks are level. Hope that makes sense.
