Great video. I continue to trade Lego & agree with a lot of your considerations! You need 3 things: storage & patience, but above all else, you need to BUY way better than you sell! By that, I mean choosing the sets that will a) do well in retirement and b) will retire soon. eBay have made it easier by removing selling fees, but this has also lowered value of sets so it is imperative to buy well!

I’ve bought 50 Lego Brickheadz Batman 8in1 sets at £25 each and I know they’ll sell for at least £100 - £809 a piece in 7 years

Older sets that are now worth money only occurred because no one invested in them. Now when I lego collector sees a reduced lego set, they buy it, and store it to then sell it. And that's pretty much every lego collector. And the uk is quite a small country so there aren't gonna be people who haven't bought the set. Whereas in America people make a living off investing in lego because the population is soo big. Ye so in uk u cant do this kind of thing

I've tried and failed every year. The prices just don't go up anymore. So if u dont get a set before it retires, don't worry, becuase it'll only cost u about 15% more than retail on ebay, sealed in box

The sideshow where you have the mallet and you have to ring the bell at the top of the structure is called a Striker here in England. I always thought the Mixer set had a major flaw in that the trailer-mount meant the finished ride was just too high up in the air. For such a well-designed ride, having to climb a ladder to stand on the roof of the cab and try to load one car at a time ruins the overall effect.

Yeah now it’s really hard to make profit and the market it’s really saturated and Lego every year is producing more sets which is making them less limited I started investing and I struggle to sell most sets even rare sets .

Most of the figures aside from the comic con figures were around $15 - $30. I do think that how good a minifigure looks is one of the factors that affects its value.

It seems like such an unusual way of making money to me. It clearly works, but investing in stocks doesn't require large amounts of storage and upsetting whoever you might be living with because they tripped over a pile of boxes.

yeah it is strange. I think it's because a lot of people are intimidated when it comes to investing so they invest in what they know, aka LEGO.

Thanks for sharing. Yeah people are trash and swap out sets then send it back you will find it was probably one of the amazon ones. Your eBay customer probably was telling the truth. Double edge issue you could check the contents of the box once you get in the mail but then is in no longer BNIB.

The only good thing about Lego is that if I ever get tired of the hobby I can resell my sets with no money loss and if lucky some profit. Due to budget and space lately I'm more into collecting minifigures now and avoid buying any large set.

Two things. If Amazon has it on constant discount, its over produced/stocked. Secondly, exclusive sets from the Lego store should always be the first investment. Bonus third, nostalgia is the reason for old Lego being expensive.

Good point about Amazon. Although some sets like speed champions that are always available at a discount on Amazon always seem to increase a lot in price after retirement. On your point about nostalgia. Do you think sets like the new Eldorado Fortress will be a good investment?

@@pattle I could see any revisit to a theme going up. Pirates don't quite hit like Space and Castle, but if it has fabric sails and minimal stickers, people will definitely want it. A decent pirate movie would help the theme too lol!

This video is fantastic. Very realistic & more people should think twice before putting their savings into sets. Always think about why you are really buying the sets; is it to make a profit or do you want to justify spending on your collection?

Thanks for the kind words. I think people feel safer investing in LEGO over other things because even though they do want to make money they are probably like “oh well if it doesn’t go up at least I can get enjoyment from it”

I was able to procure the Imperial Flagship through marketplace on Facebook new in the box, sealed for about $500.00 several years ago. It's a lovely set that I have since modified quite a bit. I would advise you - if you are going for this particular set it may be more cost-effective to part it out in Bricklink, as none of the parts are really set exclusive, and the ship doesn't have much substance within it. The minifigures will set you back a pretty penny, as the set does contain a few exclusive figures, but besides that I can't justify the price for a new-sealed ship. I do not have any regrets getting it, as it was once one of my White Whales, but seeing how expensive they have become it's just not worth it.

I also stopped reselling LEGO about 8 years ago for the same reasons. I also find LEGO is now even more expensive than ever and fewer retailers have sales. Since there are so many good LEGO sets now, it's no big deal missing out on a few of them.

I don't invest in LEGO anymore, maybe the odd set I'll buy with the intention of selling later on. It's still fun to speculate as to what sets will do well post retirement but I really only buy sets for building later.
