Wow , the company i work for just built a new hangar. we moved 6 helicopters out of an old truckstop and into a 60x100 hangar. its great but there was no attention to work flow or work areas, storage or what not. Its just junk everywhere, the trucking garage had more cabinets and workbenches than we do now. plus nothing matches anything else. Its fine and the owners are great but they just have a clue for aesthetic design.

Hey DJ. It just occurred to me the other day that you hadn’t posted in a long while. Hope you are doing okay and just busy these days. We’ve been dealing with my wife’s medical issues last several weeks and I know how challenging it can be, both physically and mentally. Take care brother.

Not sure if you have addressed it in a future video, but did you ever figure out what 45 degree fitting was needed for the calipers? Just putting in my Beringer order and want to get the hardware sorted. Thanks for the heads up on the AN-5's. Hopefully they will get that corrected in the kits. Beringer kit for the S-21 is reference AV-RANS-421-01(B) for anyone else looking to order.

According to uAvionix just a few moments ago, the Sentry only has the one battery because the second battery would intefere with the GPS.

I never did a video on adding the 2nd battery but easy to do with the proper equipment. I spot welded tabs to the battery and soldered to the PCB just like the factory installed battery. I did get around 2x the operation time.

I'm assuming if you wanted, a person could add more rivet holes around the window? It for sure has a large spacing between them. You are doing SHOWPLANE!!! quality work! Very inspiring. I sure hope my wife will let me start a slow build on one as my Navy retirement project/present next year.
@keithrush41682 ай бұрын
Question on the rivets. Are the stiffeners thick enough material so that you could counter sink them, and dimple the skins, so that you could use solid flush rivets? We could then back rivet them.
@Outbound3002 ай бұрын
You could dimple the stiffeners also and flush rivet.
@keithrush41682 ай бұрын
Curious on the bottom and side skins, are you using your tool to put a small break on the front of them so that they will lay as flat as possible on the skin it is overlapping? LOL..I should have finished watching the video first, before commenting. I ask as things come to me or I'll forget.

Good afternoon DJ! Just found your build. Really looking forward to watching all the videos and thought processes you’re doing. I have had several of the same ideas of things I would like to do to mine someday as you’re doing. It’s awesome to see. Not that there is anything wrong with the pulled rivets as you said, but I had also thought about doing solid rivets on the skins as well. I know it would add a bunch of time, but I thought it would look good. Did you consider doing the skins?
@Outbound3002 ай бұрын
I suppose solid rivets could be done on the skins but at the expense of much more time and plenty of frustration. I chose to do solid where it makes sense and does not adversely affect time to build by a significant amount.

Most kit aircraft (and some production ones) have what I consider pretty flimsy seats. Seats should be at the very least, be designed to 7G ultimate or so. A big human is about the same weight as an engine and would you consider that seat structure strong enough to support an engine at 7G? I like Rans kits and maybe they actually tested some of these to failure, but they still look a bit fragile. A 250lbs person at 7G=1750lbs. Plus the seat back will probably start cracking just outside those nice hinge brackets in no time. No matter how often you tell people, they will always shove back hard on the back while adjusting themselves (or their underwear!) and this puts enormous stress on that point. Time will tell...
@Outbound3002 ай бұрын
I can’t argue with this logic. That said this seat design has been used in many previous Rans aircraft that have been flying (and presumably crashing) for decades. I haven’t heard of a mention of the seats being a systemic problem. Worst case these could be easily fabricated from steel tube and welded gussets similar to Cessna 150 seats.
