I have your same set up, but I’m having an issue with intercepting the final approach course without my Century llB autopilot overshooting it when intercepting. It eventually comes back, but it seems to wait too long for the turn inbound. I have my ADI G5 scaling set to 1 and was told maybe I need to increase it to 2 ? any thoughts?

Kyle, love your videos, I want to set up a very similar panel. Question did you need to keep your old analog CDI? Will your SL30 nav radio also work with the G5 hsi? Or is that why you kept the CDI.

A good video to demonstrate the power of the G5 + Garmin GTX375 when used together but I am not sure the Area 660 brings much to the party that Jepps on an iPad could. What was missing was a clear indication that the GPS mode changes happened as required. Knowing the system is functioning correctly is vital when doing and PBN procedures . The GPS mode is annunciation is clear on both the G5 and GTX275, what was not clear was if the pilot was monitoring this.

Where did you find the spec for the micro switch(es) you ordered? I downloaded the service manual for PET with several permutations covered. I have a 1977 Arrow iii and it looks like the identical switch. Thanks for sharing.

Nice video, installed one of these as well. I’m sure someone has since chimed in already, but you’ll need a GTP 59 OAT probe to get the density altitude calculations you’re wanting. It’s pricey at about a half an aviation monetary unit. (500)

I am thinking of adding the GAD unit while upgrading with G5s. Are you happy with the extra information you got by adding it on your end ? They are asking an extra $2000 to do it here in Connecticut.

It was about 20 hours. The Avionic shop let me help on most aspects of the install to reduce the cost.

I had to upgrade the fuel sending units hold on for not accurate at all. Cies are spot on!

I would have liked to see the glideslope indication on the G5 HSI. I have been told by several people that my autopilot, a IIIB also, will not work with GPSS. I know it won't fly the vertical part of the approach, but that is easily done by controlling power and pitch. But if it will fly the turns, without my having to use the heading bug, that's good enough for me. Thank you!

Wow! Thanks for the great video! You say that the IIIB autopilot CAN follow the GPS track with GPSS? You didn't say this, but your G5 must have the GAD 29B add on? Will the IIIB actually track a procedure? Or do you need to use the heading bug? If you add the other G5 attitude indicator can you get rid of the vacuum system? I'm not sure, but I don't think so. If you did, you'd need a new digital autopilot. True?

I think the setting of the ranges on the various gauges by the installer is better imo. The ones like JPI that are set at the factory charge money and you need to ship the unit back if there's a change or a mistake. As an example, in my Comanche there's a small "red" part of the RPM range, but that no longer applies with my 3 blade prop. Also you need to provide the manufacturer with "proof" from documentation of what the ranges should be which is a hassle. I'll take the small amount of extra work to allow it to be configurable in the plane.

I went to an engine monitor, I had to replace the senders. Much better after that. With the original senders, the fuel reading would suddenly go to zero and then recover.

LPS on the drum? Every couple of months? Why on earth would you oil something that's suppose to cause friction? I recently bought an Archer. The electric trim didn't work when I bought it and the owner thought it was the servo and said he wasn't going to fix it. I found that some fool had sprayed ACF50 on everything including the bridal cable, there was insufficient tension on the cable, all the pulleys were gummed up with that ACF50 and couldn't turn and there was a broken strand in the cable because some A&P had crossed the cables under the cargo frame-box and then compensated by crossing the cables at the trim wheel - so when you manually ran the trim there was a grinding sound. I had to laugh at the incompetence of some certificated A&P effing up that system. Just to emphasize - don't oil the cables. There's a reason the cables are wrapped around the drum 30 times (it's to create friction to turn the drum). So you know, LPS 1, 2, 3 - none of that junk is equivalent to Mil-PRF-7870 (Royco 363) which is what Piper, Cessna, Beechcraft, Boeing, etc call for. You seem like a fella who does the right thing so I'm letting you know.

LPS2 isn't the correct lubricant for the jack screw. If you consult the lubrication chart in the maintenance manual, you'll find that Lubriplate, which is a light-colored grease paste is the correct lubricant. LPS2 is great for lots of stuff, but not for the jack screw.

I finally got my gfc 500 dialed. Pipers without fuselage mounted pitot statics may oscillate during cruise but I finally got it fixed.

Lookin' good! My recently acquired Arrow is going under the knife hopefully in the next few weeks. Gonna get a pair of G5s, a non-Xi 650, GTR 225, and GMA 345. Will be nice to have GPS in the plane...presently only Narco Nav units to officially navigate with. Ultimately would like to do G3X and GFC 500.

I'm working on a Warrior that had this system inop'd a long time ago. The connector for the trim servo is missing, is it just a mate-n-loc with two ring terminals coming out? Couldn't see in the video, thanks!

First, this is a really great video. I did not realize that you could use the Aera 600 as a reference. It seems that the 660 gives just about as much aux info as does the G3X. One question...how are you able to switch between the DG and HSI modes on the G5? Isnt that option supposed to be only offered when installed experimental? I thought the STC'd version required the installer to choose between modes and lock it in...
