Fly along as I show a Garmin GNX375 G5 HSI LPV Approach while using the area 660 for Geo-referenced approach plate charts. Next time i'll do this during the day so the camera works better.

Hi again Kyle, I wanted to drop by and say thank you for your help a while back you gave me good guidance on the G5 and navigator I went ahead and put 2G5’s and the Garmin 175 in my airplane to replace the miserable KLN89B and I can’t begin to tell you how much I love love love love it!!! It has completely changed everything flying single pilot IFR. Thanks for your good advice thanks for your great videos Garmin owes you a commission check for my upgrade... safe travels. * Ps, Someone mentioned the flickering on your HSI it could possibly be your strobe interfering with your magnameter in the wing tip. My strobe had to be disabled and converted to LED For the same reason just FYI it does mention it in the installation guide also. All the best!

A good video to demonstrate the power of the G5 + Garmin GTX375 when used together but I am not sure the Area 660 brings much to the party that Jepps on an iPad could. What was missing was a clear indication that the GPS mode changes happened as required. Knowing the system is functioning correctly is vital when doing and PBN procedures . The GPS mode is annunciation is clear on both the G5 and GTX275, what was not clear was if the pilot was monitoring this.

Great video, just finishing up my 375 instal and added my second G5. I have the 796 so waiting to see how it interfaces with the 375, should be similar to the 660. Nice that you have no commercials!

A very useful video, thanks for publishing it! I've not found very much footage relating to the GNX375 on KZbin, especially good practical examples like this one. I've got exactly the same panel as you except I have 2 G5s and no Auto Pilot - also I'm not IFR rated - I was really curious what the glideslope indication looked like on the heading indicator. You didn't provide a closeup of it, but I'm guessing it's the little "ladder"-like graphic down the right side of the instrument. Thumbs Up!

I would have liked to see the glideslope indication on the G5 HSI. I have been told by several people that my autopilot, a IIIB also, will not work with GPSS. I know it won't fly the vertical part of the approach, but that is easily done by controlling power and pitch. But if it will fly the turns, without my having to use the heading bug, that's good enough for me. Thank you!

Thanks for sharing I'm considering putting the Garmin GNC 355 in my Cessna 175A I have the Aspen E5 and the Trutrak Auto pilot. Looks like a nice setup you have, I may have to consider getting a 660, presently I use foreflight on the ipad, not sure if foreflight is going to support the connection to the GNC 355.

First, this is a really great video. I did not realize that you could use the Aera 600 as a reference. It seems that the 660 gives just about as much aux info as does the G3X. One question...how are you able to switch between the DG and HSI modes on the G5? Isnt that option supposed to be only offered when installed experimental? I thought the STC'd version required the installer to choose between modes and lock it in...

Was it the autopilot or the GNX 375 that did the 500 ft audible call out on your approach?

The Area 660 is wired to the audio panel for the 500 alert.

Hi Kyle, so I've watch this video about 10 times now. So if I understand it correctly, your AP is only in heading mode and GPSS does all the turns and intercepts for you? The AP would normally be in NAV mode for multiple fixes and turns, yes? But as I see it. It's the equivelent of the AP in heading mode and the Garmin is just sending bug inputs for all the steering and navigation.
@kylegoeman52374 жыл бұрын
The century AP is a wing leveler with a radio coupler. I have it set to default navigation so it flies off the heading bug when I select it. When I go on the G5HSI I can override it by selecting GPSS then it will take the commands from the GNX 375.

Why is it that you do not like loading the approach through the GNX? I have replayed that part a few times, and I don’t get it. It seems like I can load an approach on the 650 iPad simulator. Is the 375 different somehow?
@kylegoeman52374 жыл бұрын
You can load the approach through the GNX you can't load any plates. I use the 660 or my Garmin pilot app to load plates that are georeferenced.
@jcijr144 жыл бұрын
Kyle Goeman So, loading plates on the 660 also loads the approach on the GNX, but the reverse is not true. Correct? Thank you!
@kylegoeman52374 жыл бұрын
@@jcijr14 sorry let me clarify..the plate is the map of the approach. you need to read the plate first so you know which approach and fix to select. they are completely independent of each other on the GNX.
@midlifeflyer4 жыл бұрын
Just to confirm - your autopilot is single axis and you never left GPSS mode on the G5. Is that correct?
@kylegoeman52374 жыл бұрын
Yes my autopilot is only a wing leveler single access. Autopilot was on entire time until minimums through GPSS. It was a calm evening so I could control approach through power settings and little back trim.
@midlifeflyer4 жыл бұрын
@@kylegoeman5237 Thanks. I figured.I know that some in this situation would still go to APR mode if their single-axis autopilot's APR mode means tighter tolerances. Some do. Some don't.

Is it legal to use area 660 for IFR approaches?

Not as primary nav. He has GNX 375 as primary. The 660 is really acting like electronic flight bag with charts digitally connected to GNXas source

Kyle I’m thinking of the gnx 375 with the g5 hsi, like you have, my question is, I see that you can fly an RNAV in GPS mode, fine. Can you fly an ILS and switch your nav source to VOR/LOC on the G5, even though the GNX 375 is GPS only? Can you get the VOR/ LOC signal to the G5 from the SL30 that you have?
@kylegoeman52374 жыл бұрын
Yes. I just can't fly GPSS on the VLOC mode. But can fly off heading bug with autopilot no problem. I did the software update which you can see in this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y4jGq4mCoZmbjas

Just a heads up the yellow heading on the G5 with the heading bouncing around 4 degrees or so isn't normal. You probably have some sort of metal or electrical source interfering with your GMU11.
