I am by no means an expert at casting, but that is Silica Clay. Real Delft clay is a deep reddish brown almost maroon in color and when compacted, you cannot see the grains unless you look closely. It looks just like a smooth clay when finished, but it is indeed just extremely fine-grained sand with some additives. Delft clay NEEDS air vents due to how well it compacts while petrobond usually does not unless it's a large item. Real Delft clay comes from The Netherlands which makes it expensive but give superior results if you need extremely fine details, so I guess its all about finding the right knock off. What you have there might work if you add a few vents but Ive never worked with Silica Clay before. Cant be that much different!

I took a car load of cans to the scrap yard here in Dorset where I go and the price has gone up to £300.00 per ton from the last time I was there a few months ago. A full car load was £9.00 for the Air Ambulance. 👍

Do you tally how much gas you’re using? Subtract that from your yield value and I bet you are barely breaking even. Don’t get me wrong it’s a cool hobby, but it seems unlikely you are going to break the bank smelting pop cans
@meltingipswich
@meltingipswich 24 күн бұрын
Hi there I don’t pay for gas but if I did as you say it would not be worth it but on the other hand everyone’s hobby normally cost money rather than make money. It’s something I really enjoy doing. Thank you for watching 👍

Waste of time, takes a lot of cans and a lot of slag to make an ingot. Then it's the softest aluminum you can get, not suitable for machining. I get old bike parts from a shop and make great machinable ingots
