Sir: Tell me how you did that I am trying to picture that in my mind.

i find it crazy that it seems like people in my area charge 500$ to clean dryer vent, I have maybe 20 foot straight run out to the side of my townhome. can I simply rent a high power blower or vacum?
@planetduct666320 күн бұрын
That is pretty high. We are between $149-$199

Really useful and good to get everything defined and clear. Nothing beats regular duct tape for all the usual daily DIY jobs. Like most guys i constantly have a roll on the go, can't imagine life without duct tape. Greetings to any like minded dudes reading this in 2024 👍 👋

You are overly paranoid about asbestos. In solid forms like tape, it can only become friable if you take like a sander or angle grinder to it.
@planetduct6663Ай бұрын
I have to disagree with that. Agitation, vibration, shooting compressed air at it or hitting it with a pneumatic whip can also cause it become friable. I refer the client to an asbestos abatement contractor and will only clean the ducts when we have a certificate of abatement
@DHxJarsylАй бұрын
@@planetduct6663 I did industrial hygiene work for the Air Force for 14 years. I promise all you are doing is wasting people's money. Even if they wanted to "abate" it, it isn't insulation, it is tape. They can just rip it off and throw it in the trash, it won't hurt them one bit. Where it becomes a huge problem is if there is like an inch or more of actual asbestos insulation encapsulation the duct work, then it can't be removed without it posing a serious health hazard.
@planetduct6663Ай бұрын
@@DHxJarsyl Rip it off ? Great advice if you want to create an asbestos spill site and get fined out of business by the EPA and OSHA.

If only the insides of the ducts were cleaned, I don't see how the asbestos tape on the outside would have gotten agitated? These ducts typically fit over each other (the connecting portions are about 2 inches deep), then the connections are screwed together. The tape here appears to have been only on the outside.
@planetduct6663Ай бұрын
EPA guidelines state that the ducts should not be exposed to extreme vibration or air flow. Air duct cleaning tools can cause both extreme vibration and airflow. Also many air ducts have damage and gaps due to poor construction that allow direct contact of the agitation devices directly to the tape fibers. Running pneumatic agitation whips and rotary brushes inside of air ducts causes vibration We have also found asbestos tape inside return ducts and plenums, directly in the airflow of the system. It is not worth making a little money to endanger my clients or my staff

For the compressable semi-rigid transitional hose, would you recommend CUTTING it to size to shorten the length? or would you simply recommend making the connection and then compressing the hoes to be as short as possible to the vent?
@planetduct6663Ай бұрын
Either is fine. Whatever gets you the straightest, shortest route to the duct.

Always confused about duck tape versus duct tape. Then I read an article that explained that duck tape was actually called “duck” tape from the beginning of its invention. It was never called “duct” tape. It was never meant to be used for air ducts. So the confusion is people like me thinking that they were hearing duct when people said duck. And I used to correct other people when they said duck tape. I would tell them “no it’s ‘duct’ tape”. I did this for about 20 years until I read this article that proved me wrong. 😂

This information was very helpful and confirms my decision to purchase a semi-flex hose, particularly since the dryer connection is less than a foot from the vent in the wall (when pushed into place.

I do dryer vent service in Southern California and homes in several housing developments I have been in were constructed with 4 inch ABS plastic drain pipe. They used this material because they ran the duct through the concrete slab the house is built on. Dryer vent code today specifies 4 inch smooth galvanized duct only.

It generally poses no risk at all, especially if it's underneath the house. You can also paint to encapsulate it.
@NagashiChidorii2 ай бұрын
What kind of paint? Just normal white paint?
@planetduct6663Ай бұрын
Generally no. But in the context of air ducts cleaning it poses a greater risk to the worker and the residents.

Well, they were supposed to be pro's when they built my house, but everything they did on my hvac was wrong, and just like you're saying, all that duct tape they used fell off it leaked like a sieve I was in construction for 40 years and have seen it all I don't trust any one to do a good job anymore they even used a gutter down spout for my dryer vent so it was very hard to clean my dryer I opened up the wall and replaced it with a round pipe used for dryers they left felt off my tile roof in several places I found plugs in my house where they cut the the neutral wire to short and used the copper ground instead I don't trust the inspectors they get paid off I would suggest anyone that needs to hire a contractor watch them close go look at their jobs they did look them up check there reviews

Ever since removing the screen, birds come and build a nice nest in the rooftop exhaust hood. These cheesy hoods have cheap flapper door designs that either don't fully close, or are easy enough for birds to lift up and get in. So, my question to you, is there a good quality hood for the roof with a flapper that closes properly?

Yes one ca use metal tape, but DUCT TAPE is fir all duct work, including metal to mylar ducting, such as wyes, couplings supply and return registers. I apologize if getting to technical. Put simply . DUCT TAPE FOR DUCTING AND METAL TAPE AROUND HOTTER SURFACES.

It's hard to remove any tape Duct or metal. Be patient. But. See my previous post. If it's for ducting use DUCT tape. . If it's for metal exhaust flues, use Metal tape.......
