I would love to see you take one of these tridents out of development stage, and put it into refinement, a nice pot . Finished tree. Thankyou peter. 😊

Kudos on the new microphone--can hear so much better and don't hear the planes going overhead.

I have enjoyed watching all of your videos about trident maple over the years. Indeed this species has regained some popularity. Looking forward to seeing the pruning, grafting, and potting of these beautiful trees!

Your garden is so wonderful and the old trees are so beautiful. My english is not good, but I love your videos. I can learn very much. Thank you, Peter.

Kindly, make a video on digging these large trees and porting them into into pots.

I was wondering about this, too. It must require heavy machinery and lots of care.

You’d be surprised! Plants are very resilient, and when dormant, can take a lot of abuse (such as root loss from being dug out of the ground.) Visualize an appropriately-sized bonsai pot for the trees Mr. Chan is working with. Do similarly sized bonsai have monstrous pots? As long as the tree has some healthy roots after digging, it will be able to be potted and live, root volume be damned. They’ll grow new healthy roots that will exploit the nutrients in the soil with ease. The most important things to remember are; 1. always be drastic with your plants in their dormant season. The trees/plants can/will recover. 2. Protect these plants from harsh winter weather. Loss of roots/root disturbance and cold/freezing weather don’t mix too well. 3. Fertilize, water, and protect from harsh heat/sun in the next growing season It took me years to realize just how resilient plants really are, and how much human manipulation they can withstand, while coming back even more beautiful next year. Don’t be afraid to be drastic, but be cautious with timing. That’s it! Happy growing! :)

Agonising watching all these TM shoots being binned - young tridents at reasonable cost are so hard to come by in the UK. You could be the single-handed supplier to the whole nation with those cuttings!

Feasted my eyes on the lovely maples. Btw saw a few old & gnarly olive trees in the background, are those being trained for bonsai too?

Dragon, I love all of your videos and have learned a lot from you. If I have a large 10' japanese maple (not exactly sure the exact) with a 15' spread of canopy with a 12"wide and about 12"tall trunk before the branches start, could I give it a big chop to start it as a bonsai and will it survive? Thank you for your time.
@peterchan3100Ай бұрын
Most times they survive but I have had one or two that did not survive.

Hey Peter thanks for the video. As always, very relaxing and fun to watch. I have one question: My trident (about 20 years old) tends to only develope shoots at the top so that i cant really work with the lower branches. any ideas why? Thx lots of love
@peterchan3100Ай бұрын
Keep pruning the shoots at the top and this will force new shoots to sprout from lower down the trunk.

@Herons Bonsai @16:42 when the branch is brought back on the tree to make a new branch, after the new branch is established how can the old one be disguised?
