Can I put a double plug on the heat plug to connect two heat lamps? And a fan on the cool plug?

Okay so now I'm really confused. Do I not need UVB all over the enclosure. Just where they bask? I have been covering the entire tops of the enclosure with UVB bulbs from Arcadia on all my enclosures. I hope this gets to you soon. I have a new Baby Blue tongue.

Also, instead of stirring, you can prob do what protein muscle milk users do, put it in a container and shut it with a lid and shake. It's easier and more relaxing.

Thank you. One thing I want to add is try to not use plastic containers for heating food and water. They release toxins, even the ones that are listed as food safe. Use a glass container.

I know this video is not recent, but I love the idea of these racks and am thinking of building two. Do your skinks rub their noses on the wire? I am excited to try this out. Thank you!

This was actually useful for me for the opposite reason. I live in Ireland and the humidity in our house is about 70 (and up), so now i know which ones to get and why every second source is disagreeing on substrate haha

Think the hardest part is not holding and handling the animal I actually just got me my 1st blue tongue today and his enclosure is closed off on 3 sides the front is open but not alot of traffic In front of them mostly we sit out and watch TV so he's in a pretty private area but since he's my 1st blue I was curious about this subject but typically I let my reptiles settle in for 1st week I want what's best for them

I bought my blue tongue back in February and had for three months. I've weighed it once and was 484 grams is that a good weight. I'm thinking the skink is around 6 or 7 months

PetSmart sells BTS wet food in a can. Do you have an opinion on this in comparison to wet dog or cat food? I just got a BTS from an unfit owner and have never owned a reptile before and want to make sure I am doing things correctly.

I recently adopted a rescue Indo blue tongue. He is missing nearly all his toes from neglect with his past owner. He also had his tail badly broken so there is a bad kink in it that he will have forever. He was not having any of his needs met and he almost lost both back legs due to layers upon layers of stuck shed. He is doing fantastic now though. The vet said he's totally healthy. A very grumpy guy but he has had a lot of bad experiences with humans until recently. Starting with being wild caught and then kept by someone who abused and neglected him beyond words. Poor guy has the odds stacked against him being a super friendly puppy-dog skink. At least not for a good long time. He really needs to have his trust in humans build up. Although, I don't blame him for being defensive. He has been through so much in his short life. He's treated like a king now! A beautiful 4x2x2 bioactive front opening Atasuki enclosure with parameters kept in check, a healthy and varied diet, UVB and lots of love. I have experience with lots of other reptiles and currently keep everything from the most arid species (uromastyx) to moisture dependent dart frogs, but this is my first skink so I'm absorbing as much information about them, (especially Indonesians) as possible. I really appreciate the excellent advice you give from your own experience. Thank you so much for sharing the knowledge you have acquired over the years. It means the world to me while I'm learning about my new animal who I want to give the best possible care to. You've got a new subscriber!. :)

My tank is infested with dubia roaches and super worms will it be a problem for my blue tongue skink to have as much food as she needs I add Kale and mustard greens I very rarely give her blueberries but occasionally give her bananas well pieces But I fry up ground Turkey and mix it with butternut squash and other baby food greens I was doing that twice a week now I'm doing it once a week

I do believe some lizards enjoy gentle stroking or massaging. If it leans into it and/or seems calm it might enjoy the sensation. Pain/feeling receptors are generally similar between all animals and I see no reason why some couldn't enjoy it just as some dogs do. Of course nervous ones might be unnerved by it and some may just hate the feeling, but this is likely up to the individual.

This might be a dumb question but do Humid hides need to be in an enclosure all the time or only when you see the animal (blue tongued skink) is shedding?
@ReptileMountainTV
@ReptileMountainTV 3 ай бұрын
Thats a great question. Its most helpful when they are about to shed however skinks can benefit from options all the time.

I want to buy one as my first reptile. But my only fear is accidentally buying a wild caught. That’s the only reason why I’m hesitant to by one. I want the Indonesian because there a bit cheaper but like I said. I’m scared if it’s wild caught. And the northern ones can be a bit pricey, but I know I’ll be getting a captive bred one. So I don’t know what to chose
