There's tons of books and articles that already exist on any topic he covers. As great and factual of Videos TC makes you don't have to wait to learn and understand the complexity of reptiles. Never stop researching and learning. It's what makes this hobby fun

matt grant of course, I completely agree! I already have many books and research - about my own pets and animals I don’t own - every day. I just like this series so wanted to comment to thank the creator, but I still have many different information sources. :)

OK, watched your most recent video and it's good info but personally you could get more in depth with how those genes actually function to create those colors and patterns. There's alot that I could recommend to improve your video but I believe it would be best to do threw a messaging platform. Look me up in a Facebook blue tongue group and message me. I'll help any way I can to improve your channel if you'd like.

I personally have experienced there is a difference between the 2. If you touch or pick up a hibernating mammel there's no reaction from them and won't wake or react unless they warm up. If you touch a burmating reptile, they do react and slightly move and open their eyes. You covered this topic well and hopefully it will help new keepers understand the multiple reason to allow dormancy for the health and longevity of their animals.

Thanks Matt! Yeah mammalian hibernation is a different topic for sure. Some go into real torpor and some don’t. Its also amazing how body temps can vary in mammals who hibernate.

What is your opinion on inducing (non-breeding) age appropriate northern blue tongues? I have a 3 month old northern so not planning on this anytime soon lol but found there was alot of conflicting opinions on this subject
@ReptileMountainTV
@ReptileMountainTV 5 жыл бұрын
I would not intentionally brumate a juvenile especially if they aren’t naturally slowing down on their own. If they seem intent on it though allowing a slow down should be fine.

How do you get your Skinks to be so calm in your hands?
@bostonmeadhorn4897
@bostonmeadhorn4897 5 жыл бұрын
By being patient and calm when acclamating them to handling. Understanding your individual herps body language is the key to finding the right time to adjust to handling.
@ReptileMountainTV

Matt is correct. Mostly, I pic individuals who are “in the mood” to just sit still. I have hundreds of outtakes of animals wanting to squirm away also. Lol. Many of them have been worked with for months or even years so they know the “drill”. It takes a ton of patience... 👍🏼

As a life long keeper who is familiar with the history of that term it has always bothered me as I am in the camp that believes it to be unnecessary. You handled the topic beautifully showing both sides of the argument. Now here is my challenge to you: do a video explaining how almost every herper is mispronouncing the term leucistic. Go on, I dare you!!! Any ornithologist will tell you it is pronounced loo-kiss-tic and not loo-sis-tic. If you need proof, just ask and I will send you an explanation. Good luck!
@ReptileMountainTV
@ReptileMountainTV 4 жыл бұрын
It is lu-kiss-tic like you said. That video would be a challenge. I tried to talk about Merauke and nobody cared...lol. They still say Mer-ROO-key but its Meh-ROU-kay...lol.
