Amazing job, you absolutely smashed it!! 🏆Great video and crew from your brothers too!! I am a "fair weather" runner and I did the Arc25 this time round as an intro for winter racing. We were very lucky with the weather but the mud was tiring(!), so not sure I'd have managed if it had been as stormy as the days after😅 Your video has really inspired me to try the 100 at some point though!
@CotswoldTrailRunner2 күн бұрын
Give it a go! You won't know until you try, although I'd plan for the worst weather and anything else is a bonus. Training in the winter at least prepares you for the horrible conditions! Thanks for the support!

Well done Francois! I ran the Cotswold Century last year, of which your video was excellent research (thank you) and looking at the Arc for 2026. That race had a similar climb, but fewer bigger hills as opposed to the constant short sharp ones of this race? How do the two compare? (ignoring the fact one is September and one is January!) Thanks.
@CotswoldTrailRunner4 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching and glad the CWC videos helped! The Arc this year came in around 19,000ft and the CWC is about 13,500ft. The hills are about the same in length and some near the end of the Arc very steep. I'd say it's the terrain that slows you down on the Arc, lots of muddy, boggy sections and also boulder clambering at night. I'd definitely say the Arc is harder that the Cotswold Way, but makes it all the more worth it on completion! Go for it!

Smashing vid. Tells a great story about a team/family effort backing up the runner, which is the sort of experience I didn’t think would survive the UTMB rule changes. Well done on another gold buckle in tougher conditions, especially given your less than ideal prep for this one. Looking forward to seeing how you go on the Traverse 👊

Dnf for me on my first crack at it. Felt great all the way up to penzance but it all went down hill quickly after penzance, essentially lost my head and gave up just over halfway. The sudden technical terrain kicked my ass. I'll be back next year 😔 Well done, takes some doing to finish that 🫶
@CotswoldTrailRunner5 күн бұрын
It's a tough race for sure, needs to be taken seriously and even then, the weather will decide your fate on the day. Great effort getting halfway, that's still 50miles of brutal coastline. Lessons learned and you'll be back for redemption! Go for it!
@JesusWasHeree5 күн бұрын
@CotswoldTrailRunner i took it as seriously as i could muster, physically i was in great shape but on the day that mousehole to porthcurno chunk just wrecked me mentally and i threw in the towel. Only myself to blame unfortunately. Couple more booked in this year, hopefully I'll be back with some more experience

How much time do you think these years conditions added over last year? Finished in 28 and a bit hours. Swore I wouldn't go back but the temptation of that black buckle, as unlikely as it possibly is, might be too much 😀
@CotswoldTrailRunner6 күн бұрын
I can tell you exactly as last year in great conditions I completed the 100 in 26.5hrs. I wanted that black buckle but this year’s conditions added just over two hours, so it plays a huge part (along with not having crew at your beck and call).

Super helpful video. I believe they've just updated the GPX on the Arc site (someone in the Facebook group mentioned a new one added today) and the latest version has all the aid station markers on it already. When you open it in Plot a Route, all the directions are there already. So for the Arc, you can skip that step now, but I will definitely use these tips for future races that upload a basic GPX, thanks. See you on the start line, good luck, hope you have a cracking race!
