Excellent video, watched for the interest factor, got my buckle last year. Maybe I’ll come back next year.

I just want to say how awesome it is that you’ve recovered. Super impressive! I will be running it for the first time having deferred from last year albeit in the slower wave so imagine I won’t ever see you, but best of luck

Best of luck to you! Enjoy the whole experience! I’m super pleased I’ve recovered from my ankle fracture and just happy to be part of it. Fingers crossed the weather and we have a good day out!

Love a good kit video! I love my adv 12 but couldn't fit everything that I want to carry for winter events. Recently bought the Gecko 20 and it does ok but I don't think it's going to be my forever pack. It makes such a big difference if you can carry the kit you need comfortably.

Good to know. I've only ever run up to 100 miles so the Salomon 12L has always managed. In April I'm taking on the Northern Traverse which is 300km over multiple days so will get a bigger pack for that (UD Fastpack 30L)
@fionac108917 күн бұрын
I'm also doing the Northern Traverse and that was one of the main reasons I wanted a bigger pack. Unfortunately I think it might be a trial and error job to find the right one. I don't think it helps only being 5' 1", a lot of them just don't sit right on me. It's something I really want to get right as I start to take on longer/more serious events. Love the adv 12, I just wish the larger capacity packs were the same.

You're about 4 days late for the start of the Spine Francois! 🤣 That is a mad amount of kit! All good bits though. Can't wait to see you smash the race mate! 😎🤘

Hey Francois. Great vid. The 2nd 'warm layer' is crazy, considering the insulated gilet. I'm Ben's mate and running it too. I'll say hi for a chat if I spot you. Cheers, Kev

I find Ziplock sandwich bags save a lot of weight over dry bags, for those things that you must keep dry.
@davidh408913 күн бұрын
I find IKEA plastic bags great too. They double seal and less likely to break.
@adambeach44416 күн бұрын
Could you put the collapsable bowl in a ziplock bag to save getting the your pack dirty? In any case, if it’s silicone, a rinse with some water should get everything off pretty easily.

Muchas gracias por la aclaración este año quería hacerla pero ya estaba cerrada la carrera, el próximo año me gustaría hacerla y si alguien me ayude un poco sería mejor, le invito a España a hacer carreras

If anything the weather down here is better than normal so no need for the extreme cold kit, it has to be very extreme for UTMB to issue that warning. Obviously bring it with you if you’re travelling more than 24hrs before the start.

Great video! One thing, I believe the wording on gloves is a little confusing but I believe it was confirmed in the Arc FB group that 2 pairs can mean 1xpair warm gloves and 1xpair waterproof gloves so you might not need all of yours to pass kit check? Also you mentioned the 3rd warm layer is down? The wording seems to stipulate synthetic insulation.
@CotswoldTrailRunner17 күн бұрын
Thanks! Yes you’re right about the 3rd layer I’m just so used to calling ‘puffy’ jackets, down jackets I forgot. The one I have is synthetic (purchased specifically)! I’ll take all the gloves and see what they say. It’s a learning curve for many it seems! Thanks for watching 👍
@jadesveganlife17 күн бұрын
Well done for fitting it all in! I’m using a 20l inov8 pack,I wouldn’t have wanted to try and get it in my Salomon 🙈 I personally think your 3rd cold weather kit layer doesn’t have to be filled too. Just a warm 3rd layer, so the top you held up as your back up option would work (and be easier to pack than the coat) the wording just says 3rd layer of a synthetic material such as primaloft or polartec, but doesn’t say it has to be filled as the mid layer does. I’m taking a jacket lined with but not filled with primaloft to fit that requirement
@CotswoldTrailRunner17 күн бұрын
Yes you are correct! I will be taking both 3rd layer options and will for sure take the lightest if required. I run very warm and only tend to need a base layer and water/windproof even in sub zero temps. Of course stopping makes everyone cold so having a solution (or change of top) is crucial. Thanks for the comment and support!

Yep +1 for the gloves it was the same at UTS, under glove with over waterproof is OK, but if it is chucking it down I have my spare set of booth in my drop bag. I'll do the same with the extreme kit, if not requested I'll put it in my drop bag, as I can make my own mind up separate to UTMB, like taking extra water at UTS when they ran out :=) Other thing to remember is that the emergency 800kcal of food should not be consumed if all goes well, so just get the cheapest smallest food you like, I went for 2 x £1 flap jackets.
@gordonurquhart624216 күн бұрын
I’m sure the 3rd insulating layer that was originally part of the cold weather kit is now mandatory. I’m struggling for space too in my 12L pack. Good luck 🏃🏻♂️💨💪

With the Kit Check do you take everything in carrier bags before you do your final pack. Dont want to keep unpacking my back pack.
@CotswoldTrailRunner16 күн бұрын
Yes, everything in bags to display and check then pack it all for race day the night before. However training with the packed race kit in the weeks before allows for fine tuning in adjustments and positioning of certain items so it all feels as best it can on race day. 👍

I dread to think how much I've spent on the arc between everything. New coats, 2 gilets (first probably wouldnt have met kit), bowls etc. Most of it will be used in general training and i probably should have had it before anyway but christ have i put some money into it I personally have a small bag in each front pocket, left side with bodyglide, foot cream, tablets. Right side with gloves, hat, buff. Food in the side compartments, and then 2 big bags in my zipped bit full of everything else. Might transfer some of it into the easy accessible bag like you've done though
@CotswoldTrailRunner17 күн бұрын
Same here! This is my first UTMB experience so a learning curve for me and all involved. It’ll all be fine on the day! Best of luck and like you say, all the kit will be used at some point in the future again!
