I believe you have reasonable and less than reasonable things against the characters and story. If we're being fair we gotta be fair the whole way. 1. The story was short and left questions. Yes I agree with it but there were also good moments of plot and character continuation. We don't know how much time passed between the 1st part of story, the character endings and part 2 so figuring out who should be where is tricky. I like having the ninjas go on a stealth mission this time instead of the last group who fumbled the whole mission last time. (Empty handed with a blind guy) vs actually got what they left to get. I would've liked to have it clarified that rain was not a Keeper of Time but just a demi-godly rain (like past timelines) who overthrew the rulers of his timeline. Bi han and Kuai. Scorpion the character is traditionally rage incarnate and in this storyline he has justified anger. His older brother essentially killed their dad, threatened his adopted brother, almost cut his eye out AND wanted to kill his wife before his eyes on his wedding day (with sektor, his current gf) and try to inprison him? Naw bro, there's no forgiving that. Especially with Sektor trying to gaslight and lie every scene she's in. They both deserve to be taken out. Cyrax who is Kuai liang's Ex would know who he is as a person and even with having to follow her Grandmaster into battle, I feel like a message could've been sent between them to clarify before trying to reason with someone while murdering the wedding party amd guests. Bi han as Noob makes sense that he would be more aggressive than usual because his body is still khaos ridden so yeah, murdering fools had always been his M.O. but it's just doubled down on. I will say that there could've been a chance to where Bi han wanted to try to persuade his brother he changed and get them to be lin kuei again but he just stood on pride. I know it's bad for some people but if you know Vegeta from dragonball then you know how the rise and fall goes. However he is a rage monster character because he feels he is owed things. Lui kang had to keep telling him that noone is actually mad at what you want to do but we hate how you do things. Like you could've not let your dad die or try to persuade him differently on the future of the clan. Or you know, not agree with shang tsung to take an undead army to fuck up Earth but that's just me. I do like that Noob called out Havik for being selective on his Khaos, but it's just a time lord Havik. He doesn't look like or act like Armageddon Havik so we gotta let him be different. Like we see in lui kangs invasion, he kills Armageddon havik. This guy is a havik variation that had a goal that we could figure out. Just like old havik never grew jobbers from his limbs (btw you can't question a limb clone, it's a mindless beast. A khaos character could be questioned and detained) In my honest opinion, there are a good number of positives and negatives in this new MK. I feel for the players and devs because this game is trying to do new things and go crazy but people can't handle change so there are homages and Easter eggs to show inspiration but still trying to find ways to change it up is HARD. I mean imagine if reeses said they were doing peanut butter and jelly instead of chocolate peanut butter candy. You'd be confused and hesitant but if it tasted good people could live with it. On top of having to work with Disney and all that comes with, even after and during Covid, I give NRS wiggle room. But I do agree that there are things like better skins, character ability balance, and modes/functions that need(ed) improvements to be the best it can be. So not perfect but I say let's be less harsh on the small stuff and go hard on the big stuff.

Mortal Kombat doesn’t have good writing anyways but I did like sub zero and scorpion in mk x and 11. But didn’t sweet baby worked on mk1? Making a sub zero looks bad in this dlc if they also worked on the expansion. As for cyrax I wouldn’t like that sub zero and her stayed friends like in the past and not applying that they dated before because it just make it seems like sub is a bitter ex.

The one thing that frustrates me is Takeda is not in the Khaos Reigns story mode. He did appear but as an opponent, not as a character with story inclusions. In the first story mode, Shang Tsung, Quan Chi, and Ermac are DLC characters but they all have a purpose to the story, they're villains and they fit well with the narrative perfectly. Their purpose has been fulfilled. But in the Khaos Reigns story, Takeda has no appearance in the story. So why bring back Takeda if he has no appearance or purpose in the story mode? The three I mentioned earlier all have an appearance and a relevant purpose with good writing despite being DLC characters, but Takeda doesn't have an appearance in the DLC story mode and that saddens me. I have a feeling that the story and ending would be better if they included Takeda in the Khaos Reign story.

Bi Han and Sektor talking about how Cyrax is liable to betray them when she learns the truth, only for that to happen like... 4 minutes later is really funny. Also Sektor put an off switch in Cyrax's gear if you think they're gonna betray you. Or a self-destruct. The story has so many moments of characters calmly talking about their feelings and relationships while their allies are fighting to the death all around them. I honestly don't know if they're doing it on purpose to like, make fun of the trope or if they're just incompetent. (The base MK1 had this problem too, just not nearly as bad.) Noob should have killed Havik (somehow), destroying the alternate universe and stranding WW2 Johnny and Empress Tanya (who might be mildly resentful that the empire she was trying to reclaim was destroyed). Could have had some interesting drama, where maybe even Kuai Liang agrees Titan Havik needed to die. Movie Star Cage and WW2 Cage should have had more lines together, they could have even done something weird and funny where like, Movie Star Cage dies and WW2 Cage has to take his place in this modern world. Or something. *Anything.* Also Bald Noob Saibot in the ending is what Smoke was doing during the story: he was preparing for an epic prank. "Heehee, Bi Han is going to be so pissed when he wakes up."

It was interesting to see that even after all of Raiden’s godlike power was stripped away… …he still is more-or-less the humble peacekeeper. Says a lot about the character.

Some good things I liked: - The visuals were great, the fight scenes were great, Cyrax and Sektor were both fun (especially Sektor. Her facial expressions and attitude were spot on for the arrogant character she was portraying), it was nice seeing Johnny Cage again, Rain being a good guy was a welcome change. I also like how we have callbacks to the Kamidogu from Deception and Orin from Armageddon (makes me think Taven will be in the next game). Some bad things I didn't like: - Noob's "redemption" (or lack thereof) feels so rushed near the end and him being the one to defeat Titan Havik just feels weird. I understand why he is the way he is but it's a dumb choice. Titan Havik had a lot of great build-up but the payoff and final battle wasn't that good; he gets defeated WAY too easily. Also, I didn't like the re-use of mohawk designs for the Khaos characters. It's cool on maybe 3 or 4 people (it looked great on Maze Hunters Mileena and Kitana) but having them on the vast majority of the Khaos characters was unoriginal. Also, Cyrax becoming grandmaster at the end doesn't feel earned and makes no sense. It would have made more sense if she called Scorpion "grandmaster" and he inducted her into the Shirai Ryu (maybe a cyber division of the clan?). On the subject of Scorpion.... no Harumi kameo? I think players data mined the game and found she would be a kameo fighter or something but she's not a kameo in Khaos Reigns? A bit of a missed opportunity since the expansion starts with her and Scorpion's wedding. It's like the writers almost have to force some sort of "redemption" into previously-evil characters and it just doesn't work. Not EVERY evil character has to be redeemed otherwise there would be nothing for the heroes to defeat. Overall, in my opinion, Khaos Reigns is not bad, just underwhelming, directionless and feels unfinished. 5/10.

I will say, I imagine alot of Kuai Liang's anger towards Cyrax was just general anger he had because his wife was put in harms way and his wedding was attacked. He's pissed at the Lin Kuei even more, but he takes it out on Cyrax at first. I feel like his anger is justified in some sense, just misdirected (typical Scorpion trope) and he eventually comes around to accepting Cyrax after he's had a chance to calm his mind and think it out. That's what I like to think anyway, it could just be bad writing.

As a Sektor main since MK9 my main complaint about the redesign is that the brutal heavy cyborg turned into cheap Iron Man parody. My favorite thing about Sektor was that his moves were weighty and not really fast. The perfect example is his throw: in MK9 he simply grabs an opponent and throws him headfirst to the floor, in MK9 Sektor makes so much unnecessary movements, flips, mechanisms that come out out of her ass an etc. Making Sektor super agile and light is like making Ford Mustang an EV. Oh wait...

If reptiles invisible was a simple input and split between the various methods like in mk1, then the opponent would have an easier time finding ways to counter him being invisible, when being invisible is kind of his main thing aside from transforming, but originally before mk1, he is always invisible even in movies. So from a gameplay standpoint the numerous ways to be invisible helps mix up and stress the opponent because now the timing isn’t the same and its randomized.

I don't know if I'm the only one who thinks this, but it feels like the writers forget what made Havik work in his original depiction: Chaos isn't just Havik's philosophy, it's his nature. Maybe it's something that was lost when they made him from Order Realm in MK1, and that's a shame.

On the Plus Side it would be interesting if Noob is actually a seperate enity like Enenra in Classic MK Timeline?

Shang Tsung has always been a laughably evil stereotype; and I love the character…the fact that he lies, tricks & literally steals power from others; and yet is also an apex egomaniac. Liu Kang had to re-arrange the universe just to find ONE timeline where Shang Tsung couldn’t do any lasting damage…and even then, he’s still fundamentally the same kind of person: a charlatan, just minus the ego. …but it’s like a barrel of oil: you give Shang Tsung just a SINGLE delusion of grandeur; and suddenly his ego ignites like a wildfire. Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa will always be that smug Shang Tsung from the previous game…but Alan Lee’s version here was really good.

Luckily they came up with injustice which is much better than somehow this trash😅😅😅

Killing emperor rain was so unnecessary besides a cheesy sacrifice moment. Ik they weren’t the main characters in the expansion but they literally carried most of if not the entire story in my opinion. Liu Kang literally made Kuai Liang the most annoying character ever it’s like they wanted so badly to portray him as the Hanzo of this timeline but for all the wrong reasons when in the previous timeline he was the mature and reasonable and now his traits passed on to Harumi in this timeline. Havik was a joke that got decimated by his own creation, his presence was so lack luster and he was a total poser and literally is a huge hypocrite when it comes to what he preaches.

Tbf I'm kinda glad that Bi Han beat titan Havik. In the other timelines Bi Han defeated 4 gods, Quan Chi and Hanzo as sub Zero and Goro as Noob (midway timeline) Bi Han was one of the best fighters and then in the Netherrealm timeline he just suffered loss after loss. I can kinda believe that he can beat Havik because Titans while mighty may not neccessary be strong as Raiden once said in mk11. If Havik and Kano (in snow blind) could beat Kronika despite her being a titan i see no reason why Bi Han can't beat titan Havik. 🤔
