The fact they went with the path of making Baraka a sympathetic character, it gave him so much more opportunity for him to get much needed character development. I got to feel for Baraka as an actual character instead of him being just a jobber like he was previously. The takeaway from those stories at the end (Baraka's included) could also be this: you will face hardships in life, but if you don't despair and keep pushing forward while staying true to yourself, eventually things will get better, either through circumstances outside of your control or your own actions. A part of the Bible story you mentioned that I like is that, even though now poor and having his own troubles, Job still helps the people around him with the little he still has, and when those people he helped get back on their feet, they band together to aid HIM in return. Which is a beautiful display of mutual selflessness, aid and how your actions and character can have a positive effect on the people around

God I love the act 2 squad so much. Like all of them expect Johnny are side characters but even he is a side character in this game. It feels like a random group of characters that wouldn't normally be seen together just trying to get home and its so fun. No Raiden, Scorpion, Lui kang but a Blind guy, a cocky guy, Johnny and jobbers all just stumbling their way onto this conspiracy and again they all play off each other well, not super serious but not super goofy.

This is something similar to the treatment Balrog/Mike Bison/Boxer from Street Fighter has been received. When he debuted, he was only a brute jobber who was with the bad guys just for the easy money. Then SFIV came out and they made him more sympathetic: freeing Ed, and teaching him how to defend himself (although their chemistry is like "Dr. Dre and Eminem"), changed the direction of his character. The way Ed talks about him in SFV and SF6, is what has changed in our now lovable brute. Baraka was now redirected (wanted not a Kahn, but a Parlament under Kitana Kahn) and rewriten as someone which lost everything and still swings his scicssor blades against his destiny (yeah, I'm making a pun on how cheap you can be mashing that in MKII), and inspire others, to play his cards even if he has a shitty hand (pun intended). Didn't expect the Job part. Good video, Scalie guy from KK in a Wheelchair.

My guess for why Baraka is doing what he does is the fact that he was a war tribune, so he must've done something honorable, so it's just how he is. Another thing to note is that Tarkat makes a mf feral, as seen with Mileena. Baraka has had it longer, so in a normal situation, he keeps sanity longer, but in combat, like a normal person, you lose control of yourself a bit, so Tarkatan insanity happens. As for a hypothetical motive, since he lost everything, he's trying to find a new purpose until he dies. He was a family man, war soldier, and merchant. Family man and Merchant is a 24/7 duty, so he's used to a constant task, Family gave him a caring side, and war has made him (likely) despise suffering. All these factor into a psychological aspect as to why Baraka does the right thing, rather than an inheritly built trait like Raiden, who is still susceptible to rage and anger (dark raiden) similar to how Baraka is feral in combat, not outside of it. Feel free to debate, rebut, or disprove, since I could very much be wrong or stretching logic.
