💜Mahalo nui for sharing this video! I'm going to try this pattern next. I love the checkered look and the contrasting colors. It has been a while since I weaved, and I miss it. Thanks for the inspiration! 😊

Aloha! May I ask where I can get similar materials in the mainland? I just returned from Hawaii and LOVE the artistic culture! Mahalo!
@kalamakuokanoeau356011 ай бұрын
Thankyou very much for your comment. You may use stiff ribbon to "wrap" around the bracelet. The main frame of the bracelet should be some stiffer material. Natural fiber material options might include thin fiberous leaves. Rafia would be too soft and straw is too brittle. Please send a picture and share how it turned out. Good luck and have fun.

Enjoyed your lauhala bracelet weaving. It's a little different than what I'm learning but the concept is the same. Can you show how to add the weaving strip when you run out of the first strip please. Mahalo Also, do you know how to weave the Bird of Paradise, the rose, and bookmark?
@alexaleman16 Жыл бұрын
Just add another piece on top of the piece thats about to end and continue weaving the new and the old strip together until the old strip disappears. When you put the new strip in remember to leave a little tag so that it wont slip out, then after you pau the whole bracelet you can cut em off. Lemme know if makes sense

your bracelets lookk great ,is it a natural dye or from the shop , and i was wondering if it is possible to make a ring the same way.
@kalamakuokanoeau35602 жыл бұрын
The leaves are all natural- no dyes are used in this video. The darker leaves are still lauhala, but certain trees have darker leaves depending on their genetics. You can also make a ring- just use thinner strands. Good luck.

thank you for showing what can be done with lauhala ,it is in queensland aust but people are scared to use it because of the prickles on it but in the end it is worth the trouble , i have been stuck a couple of times but being stuborn helped ,thanks again

There are three rows of thorn to watch out for: one along either edge of the leaf and "third" row up the spine of the leaf. You could use an old butter knife of letter opener to run against the middle row of thorns and break them off. I have also used a thick damp rag and wiped the back side of the leaf. It cleans of the sand and dirt while removing the thorns as well. Good luck!!

This is amazing! I just starting getting into learning Ōlelo, and trying to learn the crafts of weaving lauhala and making ipu heke. As soon as I figure out the best way to get lauhala here in WA I'll be coming back to watch. You're videos are the most thorough which is greatly appreciated. A hui hou kāua, mālama pono. Mahalo, Aloha!
