Is there a way to utilize this as a USB adapter that could tie to a Linux box running netatalk?
@JoesComputerMuseum22 күн бұрын
Nope. This emulates the original PhoneNet function. If you want to get your classic Mac on a TCP/IP network, check out BlueSCSI: jcm-1.com/product-category/hardware/bluescsi/

Why you didnt just save it to a disk and on any linux machine or maybe even any machine just read the disk? I just write files directly to disk from linux and they work on my mac lc 2 and 3 no problem.
@JoesComputerMuseum2 ай бұрын
That would have required me to a) have a linux machine and b) known linux well enough to know I could have done that.
@newsofthenerd2 ай бұрын
@JoesComputerMuseum What I mean is just use a generic usb floppy drive on a modern system. I just happen to only use linux. I'm sure windows and mac also can access a mac formatted floppy either directly or with software.

For what the board is, it seems a bit expensive
@marklsimonson2 ай бұрын
Great story. I bought a 128K Mac in February 1984. I subsequently upgraded it to a 512K, added a third-party SCSI port, and finally upgraded it to what by then was a very expensive Mac Plus (around $4500 counting all the upgrades on top of the original $2500). I sold it to a friend in the late eighties, so I have no idea what became of it-or for that matter the original back when I got the Plus upgrade. It's easy to understand your difficulty getting an original back. Question: How were you able to shoot video of the screen without any flicker?
@JoesComputerMuseum2 ай бұрын
Thanks! I got rid of the flicker by using an app that allows me to change the exposure time and frame rate.

Love your videos, I have an Apple IIe that gives me the RAM: message after doing the hold both Apple s on each side of the space bar and turning the machine on. It does this with the RAM card in and no RAM card installed. It does not tell me which chip is bad. Any ideas?
@JoesComputerMuseum2 ай бұрын
If it shows a series of zeroes and ones across the screen, the "1"s indicate which chip is bad on the logic board.

Thanks for the very cool video. I was unaware of this project 👍Maybe update the text description of the video with links to the project\design. I am still watching the video, so that info might be included somewhere further in the video, but it still would be helpful to have in description. Also, when watching the desktop capture, the text is a tad too small to read.

14.318 /2 , 7.159 / 456 will get you to 15.75 khz.. Divide your clock by two and chain two 74ls161 together preloaded to 56. Feed that into your vertical counter, the same setup 262 count 240-244 are vsync. I know this is an old video and you probably moved on but thats another method

I love the personal take on this one, Joe! These old Macs are always *personal* to those who own them. I have a "European" 128K (M0001P -- 240V), built in Fremont, CA in late May 1984. (As far as I've been able to find out, shipments to Europe began in April, so this is an early one). The board is completely unmodified and also has the "Macintosh" only badge on the back (not Macintosh 128K). Happy 40th Mac! :-)

I saw the 1984 Mac commercial in a movie theater once in the mid eighties before the movie ran. I think the movie was “Oh God You Devil”. It was so strange because I thought the movie had started. Then the voiceover said “On January 1984, Apple will introduce Macintosh” which shocked me because the family had an Apple IIe at home that I loved and it was already late 1984! I had never heard of this new computer! It was so hard to get any information back then as a kid. 😊

It's as "original" a Macintosh as you're gonna get without finding one "new in box" forgotten in the back of the storeroom of an original dealer. The Macintosh not only changed text-based computing to graphical interface computing and put the mouse into public awareness, but it also introduced "the rest of us" to the wonder of a variety of fonts! Before the Mac, we were all stuck with whatever had been established as the "system" font. These could occasionally be modified through low-level program control, but such modifications usually couldn't be reproduced in another program.
