Thanks, even though you are sold out, I was able to find the perforated steel elsewhere. New-be question, how do you clamp the wooden stage to your workbench?
@animateclay
@animateclay Ай бұрын
@@troyacarpenter for that, most studios will cut some steel legs from water pipes. Or they might use lumber to do the same. As long as whatever it is you use doesn’t shake, that’s the important thing to keep in mind.
@troyacarpenter
@troyacarpenter Ай бұрын
@@animateclay I meant more of do you use c-clamps or f-clamps (for a wooden bench) and what part of the plywood on the stage do you attach the clamps? Also, it occurred to me that the set ground or floor is often visible in the shot. Say if your set floor is made of felt, do you punch holes in the felt to attach the screws for feet and toes?
@animateclay
@animateclay Ай бұрын
@@troyacarpenter Good questions, c-clamps are what I use to secure walls to the set base. But really any clamp will do if you have them handy. With the floor, it's a good idea to use painted construction paper if you are using the steel. That way it's thin and if you use magnetic tie down the magnetism will hold your puppet feet down. Yes, you need to punch holes in whatever you use to cover the floor with. If you use the painted paper method I mentioned, you just use a tiny piece of tape to cover old holes, then paint the tape the same color as the floor itself. That is how you hide tie down holes. If you have a thicker set floor using wood, you can also mix up colored clay to squish into the holes to hide them.

Another great video, Marc! Being able to study the work of the master animators, frame-by-frame, is an invaluable resource. I still have a lot of difficulty making my animation look "life-like", but being able to watch how an experienced animator handles a head-turn/eye blink sequence, for instance, really speeds up my learning process. So much to learn, so little time!

Can you bake this? I got this for my kids, and it doesn't air dry? How do I get it to harden?
@animateclay
@animateclay 5 ай бұрын
This type of clay is oil based and can't be hardened. One thing you can do to preserve any sculptures is to spray it a few times with crystal clear Krylon spray. That way the sculptures can have a way for you to dust them off. The spray also hardens the outside slightly so they are a little more durable. In the future, look for polymer clay if you'd like to make more permanent sculptures. Primo and Sculpey products are great for that.
