One of the musical highlights of my life was to hear Shivkumar and Hariprasad play in London back the 1990s. I was learning to play the Indian santoor as l already played the hammered dulcimer. I sat in on sitar classes at an Asian arts centre in Southampton, UK to learn the ragas.

While exponents of Benaras Gharana have always been adept in expressing banis with much love and care, it is also true that Benaras Gharana excels in its lyrical compositions (not sashu nanadiya only) of various themes....

Panditji is absolutely perfect in depth of raga and instrumental sound remission. He appears to supersede other maestros of his gharana even. He is believed to reign over decades to come.
