While exponents of Benaras Gharana have always been adept in expressing banis with much love and care, it is also true that Benaras Gharana excels in its lyrical compositions (not sashu nanadiya only) of various themes....

Legend has it that this raga was created by Bilas Khan, son of Miyan Tansen, after his father's death. It is said that while trying to sing Todi, his father's favorite raga, in the grief of loss of his father, Bilas Khan mixed up his notes, which gave birth to this raga. The legend also says that Tansen's corpse moved one hand in approval of the new melody. In Gwalior, the graves of Tansen and Bilas Khan are situated in same tomb just side by side, in close vicinity of the Tomb of Tansen's guru Ustad Ghouse.

That's it, Masters. The melancholy of Bilas Khan, mixing sadness of Bhairavi in stately Miya-ki-Todi. This is missing in sankatmochan performance. Mr Anirban Bhattacharjee may pl be kind enough to the poor audience to exclude Netflix from Bilaskhani Todi.
