The way you compared dnd to what shadowrun does better really got me excited to give it a try. Thanks for the awesome video!

I started my Shadowrun journey with 2nd Ed. I absolutely love the system and the world. The most ridiculous roll I ever had to make was 27D6. I can't recall how that worked out, but the table was rolling (pun intended) when I had to commit the mortal sin of asking to borrow another player's dice. 😂😂😂 And this was just an attack from my decker. Who, for those who know, actually had a lower Essence (0.4) than our dedicated street sam.

i haven't got into 5e, i'm still on 4e... but i love shadowrun too. the setting is almost prophetic, and the system, not having classes or levels, is just great.

Even as a video game, the SEGA GENESIS/MEGADRIVE is by FAR the BEST Shadowrun video game I have ever played, and I have played the SNES AND newer releases. Seriously, if you like the older TT Shadowrun, and likes the SNES version, you NEED to play the Sega version. Just KZbin some videos and watch how the overhead changes when you decide to randomly jack into the many public terminals outside and watch as it hacks into randomly generated systems and go into this weird, 3rd person over view of a Lawnmower Man type look inside the Matrix. I think the combat setup in the Matrix is SO MUCH BETTER than what the PC version even tried to do. God damn the FASA Sega version was as close to the old school TT game that a console would be able to emulate.

In the new CDs there's a short story from the perspective of a shrine maiden who says: "It looks like some strange person has slipped in again. I'd better do something before she gets to the shrine... Oh, that girl... doesn't look like a human or a youkai." This seems to reference the blonde-haired girl of the old CDs who is not human anymore but isn't a full youkai either(Until the end where she fully transforms into one). So although I think it's true that the entire story is just a made up tale, there seems to be some semblance of truth in there that indicates that some events did occur.

Oh Shadowrun 5e, a game I love but can _never_ seem to keep a table together for. The learning curve is a bit steep at first, but once you've got one archetype down learning the others is pretty simple. Riggers and Deckers/Technomages (the hackers) are probably the hardest to start with because the tech in this world is just so _comprehensive_ but once everyone's comfortable with their archetypes the world and stories you can tell in it are _fascinating_ compared to other tabletop systems.
@MegaFrog8 күн бұрын
Yeah technomancers are the hardest to learn in my opinion, since you have to learn all the normal hacking rules AND the specific technomancer rules.

Id love to see you make more TTRPG videos! I personally only play Anima Beyond Fantasy. Never even played DnD! My friends aren't interested in anything else, haha. I recommend it because I think it deals with some of the issues you brought up really well. Just... y'know its a fantasy setting instead of cyberpunk.

This kind of video proves that i'm not just here for your Touhou content, i'm here for you. I knew of Shadowrun because of a dear friend of mine talking about a whole bunch of stuff in one of the campaigns he's in and it has interested me, but now it's definitely caught my attention. Great to hear about it and would love to hear more, good video!

I somehow also fit into the Touhou Fans ∩ Shadowrun Fans group. You were able to summarise the basics of Shadowrun and pros over D&D decently in my opinion. My first ever Shadowrun character was a Technomancer (Hacker) in 5E (Yes, I probably should have went with something easier). Ever since then I've been a Technomancer in future games, because you can't just learn the 5E Matrix and Technomancer rules and then not use them. Although I do like Shadowrun, I do have to admit that I have a few frustrations with it. When it's fun, it's very fun though. And I have never played a D&D game, let alone 4E, so I don't exactly have a "barometer" of how bad it could get. Another thing that attracted me to Shadowrun was the lore/plot. When you learn that a Dragon was President of (the closest thing to) the USA, you can't go back, you need to know more. And the Matrix and Resonance Realms were also very interesting to learn about when I focused on them. What was your first character in Shadowrun like anyway?
@MegaFrog9 күн бұрын
My first character was the one shown in the Chummer examples! Agent Alpine, a disgraced Saeder-krupp corpo. She was skilled in espionage, infiltration, and social engineering.

Just so you know now, since the Yama is based off of Buddhism, if they are in hell, they will not be there for eternity, they will be there until the “bad karma” is burned off (but touhou hell is more like a prison than a place of torture so it’s ok kinda😅) But aside from that, this has to be LITERALLY the most helpful video I have ever watched on trying to understand touhou THANK YOU❤

Touhou is scary, but it isn't that scary because you always follow the perspective of a being of ENOUGH power and knowledge to survive and live there comfortably. A very effective way to turn touhou into horror is a horror game where you're a normal ass human from earth that somehow teleports to gensokyo and has to fend for themselves.

MoP feels like a mix of: -official works -AI chat GPT written using touhou fanworks and doujins -memes All that spun into a blender with 10000 drunk writers (or in Zun's case not enough drunks) It feels like something that could happen during the games without being cannonical. Like OVAs from animes. It is also a big reason prime example as to why Zun probably never wanted to officially license an animation for the series. Considering the entire theme is touhou PROJECT which diverges into several fan made works from the main base games...like TF2 sfm vids. Infact most of the "official" mangas are just overlooked and greenlit by Zun and other artists make the doujin stories art etc. Even the character size consensus is still a hot topic debate for people in the fandom. Still MoP is a great end product that encapsulates the spirit of the franchise without trying too hard -anime girls Check -danmaku bullet patterns Check -drinking Check -LOTS of drinking Check. -ecchi for making up like 99% of doujin fanworks and fanart CHECK MoP is akin to what would happen if nintendo didn't dmca or copystrike fanworks like pokemon uranium or mario-like rpg platformer fanmade games.

Remember when 4chan did 2 VNs and they put a good chunk of other VNs to shame (specially snoot's game). That's the tl;dr of what i can say about it vs other animes / animations. Like pop team epic
@newturtle3Ай бұрын
Also to drive home the point reimu has like 5 different cannonical prsonalities. From official games to the official mangas. Trying to make $$$$ to killing a human turned youkai. Some have mentioned tf2 and it is sorta the samish. In game vs sfm vs comics. Same with touhou. Games vs doujins vs other media. (Lookin at you hiffu club albums). The overall point being it's not 100% but good enough. The creators did their research which is a lot more than i can honestly say about the writers and creators working on cannonical actual sequels to franchises like star wars ghost busters and games like....the last of us (neil druckman got to go bruh TLOU2 was such spoiled apples vs the first).

Once again great video MegaFrog!! I really appreciate your analysis' with the Touhou Project because I think you promote to the western audience the activity of interfacing with the deeper folklore that Touhou has to offer. I found this video compelling because upon reading the title I immediately thought of Dolls in Pseudo Paradise as being the pointed scary part of Touhou in my experience with the Project, and then sure enough you cited it as a primary source for establishing the cautionary tales that in reality tell of the very real dangers that are found in Gensokyo. Initially after only learning about Touhou from the story in the games the project was still a cute and childish fantasy to me, but after reading DiPP while listening to the album a part of my perspective definitely began to see the horror that can be interpreted in the subtexts of the games stories. Contrary to being scared for the fun of being scared like when playing a horror game and letting yourself be frightened, I genuinely felt fear and anxiety while reading DiPP which I commend ZUN's storytelling because only a few other novels have gotten under my skin like that. Anyways thanks for the fun and topical video it was cool to hear about DiPP in your presentation!

Akyuu is not just Gensokyo’s most prolific author, but she’s also incredibly adept at horror storytelling specifically. Just look at what happens with the hundred ghost stories event in Forbidden Scrollery, which would have been a bit of a let down had she not been there to basically say “you all suck at this, let me show you true fear”. Granted, Marisa helped, but it was primarily Akyuu.

The whole "Sakuya is a lunarian" thing is something I don't really agree with for three reasons: 1. Sakuya's red eyes were a design inconsistency and I think were mostly there as a reference to you-know-who (Regarding the red eyes in IN, she did indeed go insane eventually for a short period after looking at the moon) 2. Somebody who claimed this also claimed that Sakuya is Eirin (Literally just straight up), which immediately took away any belief I had of this theory 3. Lunarians aren't hot But if it is true, I guess I'm into Lunarians
