Somehow it's difficult to get this on KZbin. Guess that's why there are so few comments. This piano is so great. We love it.

The original player from 192......ugh six??? Gee whats left of my Radle player a 1919 piano has whats left of the originall player system.......

Wait. 1940? So the recording is a series of holes in paper. So either the hole is open or closed? Isn’t that basically “digital”?

Have you done any more refining to this cute little gem of a piano? It sounds to me like the Ampico is having an easier time with soft passages. I hear much more in the way of dynamics than I did in the other videos. It sounds very nice.😊

@TheAmpico Actually, yes! I dialed back the first intensity and also voiced the upper treble. It was terribly bright. The hammers are original and should be replaced but better for now.

Incredible Chickering, with this well known roll. I didn't know it was released so late, as Porgy and Bess is a 1935 musical production. It also reminds me Cab Calloway's fabulous "it ain't necessarily so"

Long live the Ampico Boys ! By the way, did Adam Carroll record any more rolls after the Aeolian American merger ?
@Yalie06405
@Yalie06405 Ай бұрын
I have a suspicion that like many others, he was relatively quickly phased out after the merger and bottom started falling out of the market. From what I've read and heard, Frank Milne was preferred due to his popularity and of course abilities to create and work magic into both the styling of the Ampico and Duo Art systems and familiarity with it all. Of course to make it seem like they still had a wide artist recording base, that's why he assumed so many pseudonyms.

I'm currently converting my garage in a finished showroom and workshop for all the pianos I have as it'd be nice to have them all almost in the same space and would be nice to have a dedicated space to work on them. I rebuild pianos for myself. I've been doing it for over 20 years. Slowly getting into player work now too.

@ 1:35 I should have loved to have had your rendition to play for my parents! Amongst their 78s they had two versions: a Rex by ‘Jay Wilbur & his Band’ with vocals by ‘Sam Browne’, and a Columbia with a vocal duet by ‘Anne Lenner & Eric Whitley’ with music by none other than ‘Carroll Gibbons & His Band’ from the Savoy! Dad was RAF and Mum was WAAF. If they managed leave at the same time, Mum made what rations they'd been able to put by into a picnic lunch, and Dad brought his HMV 102, as pianos aren’t known for portability. (One always perceives one's parents as older, but when the War started in '39, they were only late-teens). They never spoke of having ‘a song’, per se, (not one in particular), but if they had it surely would have been: ‘They Can’t Black Out The Moon’! They'd have loved this... you play it so well! Cheers!

Damn imagine how loud this roll would be on a Mason & Hamlin BB! It already is ridiculously loud on the little Knabe!
@Yalie06405
@Yalie06405 3 ай бұрын
I would imagine not too much difference. This Knabe is 6ft 4in long and the RBB is 6ft 11.5in. I've played both instruments and I can testify there is not too much difference in sound or bass!
@PiotrBarcz
@PiotrBarcz 3 ай бұрын
@@Yalie06405 Really? Huh, I thought the BB's were 7 foot, maybe the RBB is a bit longer because of player system but I don't think that's the case when it's in a drawer. Probably depends on the piano too, your Knabes have phenomenal bass tone.
@Yalie06405
@Yalie06405 3 ай бұрын
@PiotrBarcz You're right. With reproducing pianos that have drawers, generally there is not adding on to the length of the piano unless it's the Duo Art system, unless you have one of those later Duo Art systems that were in the Ampico B drawers. I think what helps with Knabes is that they have such wide tails compared to most pianos which adds more soundboard volume and generally makes them sound larger than their actual size.
