Ben Johnson was a nobody till Campbell gave him a chance. No one was beating AG’s door down till Campbell he was just defensive backs coach!?! These guys were nobodies till DC made them, they can find coaches just as good maybe even better!?! I’m not worried a bit. That first caller sounds like he’s almost crying!?! R.E.L.A.X. 👌

The fan that called in begging Shiela to pay the coaches so they will stay is emblematic of many fans who think money is the sole driver when it comes to career decisions for these coaches. Yes, money is important, but isn't everything, especially at this level. Coaches at this level will never starve. To reach success at this level means you have other factors involved. Ownership, front office competence, culture, empowerment, support and respect all factor into what attracts elite coaches to an organization. The Lions have ALL of these things in spades. Add in a fan base that is amazing and you have a very, very attractive environment. Those things are not lost on AG and Ben Johnson, especially Ben. If a coordinator wants to be a head coach, very little will stop him. However, all these factors that are so good in Detroit will certainly make AG or Ben wary of other teams that don't offer them. Dysfunctional teams looking for head coaches won't be able to hide their issues. Do you think that the Jets owner, Woody Johnson, who values Madden ratings of players, will be seen as a supportive owner or a loose cannon? The Bears are the Bears. New Orleans is in cap hell. Shiela can pay Ben and AG a ton to make their decisions difficult, but it will be the overall Lions team and organization experience that will impact their judgment on leaving, much more so than just a pile of money. Just be careful what you wish for, Ben and AG. The grass isn't always greener elsewhere.

Best of luck to Chris. He deserves all the success. He came to the Lions and didn't take the GM job, he knew he wasn't ready. He helped find the people that changed the Lions fortune who were ready. I wish he would stay in Detroit, us fans love him here. But if he wants to try being a GM I am 100% behind him. The Jets need a guy like Chris to help them turn things around. If he can... he will be a hero in New York and in Detroit. No hate from me if he takes the Jets gig.

Are their other Dan Campbell-style coaches out there? Sure, of course. But this is something you cant replicate in a lab. You cant FAKE IT - and that is what drives the NFL Old Guard nuts. They want to just HIRE someone to Play-act like Campbell - but still stick with the Old Way of doing things. Whats the Old Way? Everything is fast & temporary. NOTHING is meant to be long lasting, except who the NFL Supreme Rulers are and how much money they can SQUEEZE out of the Fans. The Old Way is crappy NFL Refs deciding games, decing who will be ALLOWED into the Club. Dan Campbell.and the Detroit Lions are about long range goals and a solid foundation. Thats why the NFL wont stop talking about how they can break up the coaching staff. They love the Lions bringing eyeballs with their "antics," but they HATE the Lions actually WINNING with their New Style of Grit. Too bad fans all.around the league would love to have a REAL coach like Dan, and not a phony Copy. 💙🦁

Stop it. I am literally the biggest lions fan ever. She’s tears when we went 0-16. Been on this a long time. But JG is having an amazing season but he’s 4th or 5th in the running. Lamar has had one of the best seasons ever. In history. How many yards? TD/INT? Rush yards? I am a HUGE Goff fan. But let’s not play the victim. He doesn’t deserve it. Doesn’t mean he hasn’t had an amazing season. But he doesn’t deserve MVP no matter what his name is. And if Burrow didn’t have such a crappy record, he’d be ahead of him too.

Words like grit, culture, resilience, process and knee-caps were not in the NFL lexicon publicly until Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell joined The Sheila Ford Hamp Lions Train in Detroit in 2021. These are all now the most used buzz-words in all of football. That's not change, that is a revolution. Time to get that Lombardi Trophy! Go Lions!!!

All the reasons given are part of the reason why Jared doesn't get the credit he deserves. Another big piece is that his superpowers are all but invisible to most fans and even a great many pundits. I'm talking about all the pre-snap stuff: getting the team into the right play; helping guide the protections; reading the defense - and then his during-the-play stuff: his play fakes, including play-action; manipulating the defense w/his eyes and shoulder movements; the speed at which he processes what he sees; his subtle movements in the pocket that buy a little more time for him to work; throwing not just an accurate ball, but a super-catchable one; his judgement about risk-vs.-reward; his unflappability in the face of pressure. There're STILL lots of people talking about how he wilts under pressure! Is there a QB MORE willing/able than Goff to deliver an accurate ball downfield while knowing he's about to be crushed? And thru it all, his calm demeanor and confidence. Seems like whatever bad thing that might have happened has zero impact on his state of mind on the next play. This is the flip side of the flash plays Lamar and JA create, and, again, a large majority of fans and a great many pundits have no appreciation of it.

Been waiting over 60 years to get this far. But I'm hoping the Lions lose before the Superbowl. Each coach or coordinator thinks they are solely responsible for this team's success, in reality it's all of them. They will go separate ways, like McCarthy and end up going team to team until this lion's success is not even a memory.
@tomsheets6399Күн бұрын
there's spmething to be said to having job security as a coordinator for the Detroit Lions...compared to high risk (yes, high reward) of being a head coach. Every year there are 6 to 8 firings at the end of the year of head coaches that were once shiny new hires. (Atleast I hope Ben looks at it that way!!!).

Sheila played sports while attending university. She is naturally competitive & probably learned from the mistakes of Martha & the uncaring attitude of WCF. Even at that time, I felt the booing was uncalled for considering the complete roster overhaul after the Stafford trade & subsequent draft. She has proven she wants a winning team as much as every fan while also allowing the team she has hired to do their jobs without interference. Kudos to the Lions video department. First class content.

7:20 Dan Campbell is a man. Not a man compensating and hiding his emotions out of fear or because he thinks that's what makes him tough or any other stupid bullshit that men who worry about who and alpha man or a beta man is think matters. Dan is just a man. There are many of us out there, but sadly there are a lot more boy men out there. 1:00 "make them stay here" and the idea of paying them whatever exhibits a fundamental misunderstanding of the situation. First, Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn I am sure are the highest paid coordinators in the nfl. And if they're not they're damn close they would be next year if they end up staying. They want to leave because their ultimate goal is to be a head coach who wins the super bowl. And nothing else is more important than that. Sure, they'll get paid more. But it's not about that.

Other teams are looking at the lions success and trying to steal parts like the OC or DC. Even Chris Spielman. But what the lions did was a complete culture change. And if you keep the same owners they have to be willing to do that or sell it off like the Commanders. So unless a dysfunctional organization is willing to fix it you can steal a part from somewhere else but in the end nothing will change. Ben Johnson said, his criteria for execpting a HC position is that. I think if the Jets hire Chris they may get Ben Johnson.

I had seen the Lions hire and fire a long line of coaches. I always hoped each of them was the one who was going to get it right. When Dan Campbell and Brad Holmes came in, I was willing to give them a chance. In year two when the Lions were headed for awful yet again, I lost faith. I didn't see it changing, but, I sure liked the coach, he was different, but still SOL. Then... it changed. I still had doubts especially after the Lions lost in Carolina to ruin what was a possible playoff run. Then 2023 happened. The team won games!. What a turn of events. Thank you Shiela. I admit when Sheila took over for her mother I rolled my eyes and said freaking GREAT because she had no experience. When she fired Patricia and Quinn I was like okay that's a start. The thing I respect the most out of Shelia is when I saw a one on one interview with Dan Miller last year she explained how she spoke with business leaders of big corporations she went to college with she respected gave her advice on business leadership and how it should be run by empowering the right qualified people to do their jobs. It was a great interview and I learned a lot from her explaining how she re-organized the whole front office.

Moving from William Clay Ford - who treated the team like a Boy's Club where he could hang out with bought friends - and Marth Ford - who had zero interest and zero understanding about football - to Sheila Hamp was absolutely instrumental. Getting rid of horrible ownership and getting someone who both is passionate about the team and knows she needs to get experts around her to make the decisions she isn't expert enough to make is the first key to making the Lions what they are today.

Martha took over and tried. She brought in the Cheerleaders. She brought Shiela with her as an assistant. When Martha thought Shiela would do a better job she gave Shiela the keys to the den. Both Martha and Shiela are on the sidelines before every home game. As far as paying to Coordinators more, yes money is involved but for AG at least he’s earned a HC job and he wants to do it. After all he has done with damn few resources sometimes times and succeeded. He has earned a shot. I’ll hate to see him go. His replacement is already in house and ready to go. BJ’s wife and family love living in Michigan and he was here before Shiela. He has lived not the best ownership. He won’t leave MCDC, Brad and Shiela for anything less than Shiela caliber ownership. Fipp is staying as well. People don’t quit jobs they quit bosses. AG won’t be quitting he’ll be taking a rare opportunity and the entire Lions organization is supporting him. One Pride.3
