As someone whose main draw is racing little cars, I never sleep on this show! Channel title doesn't faze me at all, Joe. I also love Rally Racing of little cars especially, so often those Subies take on the track there! "Why did these cost $3, again?" Many times, Mattel really has skimped on details at this price point, to the extent I feel they think, whatever you'll buy it anyway, sheep. If you don't mind the mentioning of another show, Treetops Raceway Park will have a *modified* Tooned event on three of his tracks; drag, road, and rally. Only cars with all four small wheels, so no tiny Batmobile, Twin Mill, not even the Dodge Charger, just to keep it fair.

I was hunting at a local blue place yesterday, and was approached by a 20 something saying "What's up with Hot Wheels? The value of the cars and stuff?" I thought, Good Lord, with a mental eye roll. I told him what I know, because it no longer matters to me. I wished him luck, telling him I don't care about the "valuable" Hot Wheels cars, and collectors like me are moving to other brands (as I tossed an Autoworld car in my cart). As far as Hot Wheels goes, I'm down to collecting a couple specific castings and Fantasy/Art Cars (including the donut drifters).

I may be wrong, but I believe that Mattel is now actively feeding the hype/demand beast. My reason for saying that is because I just watched unboxing videos of the 2025 A through C cases. While there is always some overlap of castings between subsequent cases - some repeats from case to case - I saw ZERO multiples of individual castings in any of the cases (only 1 casting of each car per case). There seemed to use to be a few multiples in each individual case even in 2024. THs and STHs in the cases seem to be more scarce now, also.
@GigantoidArchive2 күн бұрын
I definitely agree with you that STH and TH are more scarce. I think it was the B case that I ordered last, 4 cases and no supers or regular treasure hunts. Very weird. A few days before Christmas I found some stuff from 2025 B case at my local supermarket, but when I was last there, they'd restocked with 2024 L case. Never a great sign. I feel really conflicted about Mattel lately. On one hand the more I collect the more I admire and respect the artistry that goes into diecasts, but on the other, the scalper-plagued sea of uninteresting models nobody wants but which shops need to sell before they replace them with new stock is entirely Mattel's fault. They don't seem to see how they are harming themselves and creating a secondary market just to induce FOMO. I found a darkly hilarious video by some guy earnestly and seriously making the argument that actually, scalpers are heroes the other day. I just looked up that show. It is funny to see. The funny thing is that the bulk of the cars being sold are for the collectors, as far as I can tell. The cars seen in the show are the ones left in the bins and on the pegs. The show reminded me of the original cartoon from 1970. I watched it then. The market is more in line with adult collectors, as far as I can tell. I could be wrong, though, on this. One thing not really mentioned is the large amounts of leftover cars that at some point dissappear from places like Wal-Mart as new stock comes in. As for smaller stores. They are stuck with this backlog of old unwanted inventory that makes them think twice about keeping this line of products in stock. Or so I am guessing based on the need to keep things moving to keep cash flow going.

Looks like my comment fell over after all, I thought something was iffy. Attempt 2: The Cupra e-racer ran in and apparently dominated a now-defunct electric touring car racing series which never attracted any more than 3 teams for a total field of 6 cars. It wore an iridescent blue-purple and bright yellow livery very similar to the model, so this is one of those releases that represents a real car. Cupra as a brand is a spin-off from SEAT (Sociedad Espanola de Automoviles de Turismo), a low-cost Spanish car firm that used to licence Fiat designs but is now VW-owned, that's a brand of choice for European hot hatch lovers who want a cheap, well-made and tuneable car. Cupra was their sports brand, like Hyundai N or BMW M, but for whatever reason it got promoted to its own marque, which at present seems focused on...slightly more costly small crossovers base on VW platforms, only with a more aggressive logo. Sigh.

This is Monday & my local Target did receive one case, 72 piece, of 2025 B case. First off, I was there present in the toy aisles. The Hot Wheels pegs were almost empty. I was observing as three teenagers were doing the stock. One of them popped around the corner and started pegging the B case HW. I was first on scene at the pigs and as going through I noticed there was no regular treasure hunt or super treasure hunt. Yep you probably guessed it, The employee is the scalper in this case. Now on another matter, this is a question for you. Many collectors keep their Hot Wheels carded because they believe the value will stay high on that particular Hot wheel. Now because you are famous at using loose Hot Wheels, here's the question: Which Hot Wheels retain a good value after being uncarded and loose? I'm asking about monetary value not personal value.

Never understood why Hot Wheels just doesn't put the year which the car was released and if it has a number on it it puts so much other crap on there that no one cares about at least we could have that so we don't have to research everything. Instead we get some random letters starting from 2008 and some number of the week it was released seems stupid.
@marcoantoniomarquezperez26526 күн бұрын
If you know how to read the bases you would know that basically everything you want to know is on the base. For example the B12 and S16 that you see actually tells you the year and month the car was produced. The year the casting was released is also almost always on the base. IF not the actual year that you have the code so you can look it up. Even the blisters sometimes tell you information about the car.
@Josh_Quillan5 күн бұрын
@@marcoantoniomarquezperez2652 Clearly OP knows that. The question is why is it encoded as 'B12' like it's a gun's serial number being stamped into carbon steel and not '2009.03.24' , which is to say a real human-readable date? I don't want to have to consult a spreadsheet and week planner-type calendar every time I wonder when a model was released; but for some reason they think the country it was made in is so important that they spell it out in full each time. If you ever drill out the rivets and open your cars, you'll find more inexplicable mystery shit inside, like big raised letters and a rectangle embossed on the top of the chassis where they are not intended to be seen. When you look at how other manufacturers handle markings, you start to see that how Mattel usually does it is just their own weird choice. They could decide to make adding car logos, like on the DeLorean, standard, or indicate scale, or even list car stats like Siku do, but they just enjoy being cryptic.

I didn't realise this but all A90 Supras are GR, it seems the model is simply called the GR Supra. Even the 4-cylinder option. I assume it's a marketing thing, designed to play on the popularity of Supras and elevate GR as a badge. I never understood why they decided to split off TRD and just use it for trucks and 4x4s. Gazoo has Toyota lore behind it, which is cool and everything, but nobody can deny it's a stupid childish name. The A70 does look very much like the 180SX (IRL it's noticeably longer than the 180SX and to my eye more C4 Corvette-scale) but if there's a weakness to Japanese cars it's the derivative design. I'm sure any car fan can think of several Japanese cars that looks uncannily like another successful car. When they do it well, it's like a really good music cover, it fits right in with what it's imitating but stands on its own merit, but sometimes it strays into the car design equivalent of the uncanny valley. I think that's why the A70 is not particularly celebrated, it's just not sufficiently its own thing.
